Replace fear of the unknown with curiosity

here are tips I discovered very recently:

something is better than nothing. 5 minutes of work are better than zero. Just because you missed something on your schedule doesn’t mean you can’t still work on it, even for 5 minutes. Grow and build on this.

second drafts / reviews can be done after.

Don’t think you are going to do your very best work on the first try. Take the weight of perfectionism off your shoulders.

don’t think about doing it. just do it as fast as you can.

build on your productivity, not your failures.

If you come from a past of procrastinating and now feel motivated to change and discipline yourself, do NOT try to do everything at once.

if you have a set of different goals to accomplish, begin with the most important one. Wait until the rotine of working for that one settles in (you feel productive and comfortable-ish), and then begin with the next. Repeat.

this way you’ll be building your way up and not juggling everything at the same time, hoping everything works out.

be patient with yourself, you’ll get there!

set smaller deadlines for your goals

have monthly and weekly-ish deadlines

e.g. if you are doing a project, due 22nd Feb, set personal deadlines, like have Introduction written by 2nd Feb, have Methods written by 10th Feb, have project complete by 18th Feb.

take them as seriously as you possibly can, don’t miss out on yourself.

write realistic daily tasks and don’t stop until you finish them. after them you can do whatever you want

on writing realistic daily tasks, the secret is knowing you can only do so much in one day, but trusting you can accomplish everything in the course of any period of time (a week, or 2 weeks or a month, etc.) because you will combine the work from all these different days.

it’s very tempting to write down all the tasks you need to accomplish in one day to just get over with it, but the real deal is you won’t accomplish half of them. You’ll feel very unproductive then, wich leads to demotivation.

spread daily tasks in the time necessary.

have a consistent sleep schedule.

if your mind isn’t ready everything will fall apart.

have one rest day per week where you plan nothing, do whatever you want except studying. this can be harder than you expect!

Starting University Tips

Hey hey! I’m not sure if you know, but I’ve got a 15-part comprehensive university Series called What I Wish I’d Known About University, so definitely have a look at that to see the differences between high school and university. It’s also packed with tips on how you can change your high school studying to university type studying in Part 11 and sprinkled throughout the other parts. 

Just to summarise with references how you can prepare:

Make sure you’ve enrolled correctly (see Part 1)

Plan out your degree (see Part 1)

Read university guides (see Part 1)

Mark down important dates e.g. census (see Part 1)

Work out travel, take into account bus line times (takes anywhere from 5-20 minutes to wait for the bus + traffic) (see Part 2)

Choose good quality equipment and pack your bag with all the essentials you may need (for tips on how to choose a backpack or laptop or stationery or other things see Part 2 + Laptop Recommendations)

Dai - it can be translated to “come on” and it’s pronounced like the English word “die” (so yeah it can create a little bit of misunderstanding)

Meno Male! - literally “less bad!”; but it means “thank God!”

Magari! - literally “maybe”; it’s the italian equivalent of “I wish!”

Basta - it means “that’s enough” “stop it” “enough”

Boh - literally this emoji: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ or “to have no clue”. (“Did we have homework for today” “boh”)

Quattro gatti - literally “four cats”; it means very few people. (Alla festa eravamo in quattro gatti - at the party we were in four cats)

Come Dio comanda - literally “as God commands”; something done properly, like it should be.

Spettegolare - to gossip

Toccare ferro - literally “to touch iron”; italian equivalent for “knock on wood” (yeah we touch iron instead)

alzare il gomito - literally: “to raise the elbow”; to drink too much (if someone raised the elbow he drank more than he should have)

Siga - short for “sigaretta” which means cigarette (would be “ciga” in English? Did I just invented a new slang word? Idk)

Ci sta - literally: “it fits” it means “that’s cool” “sounds good”

Fatti furbo - literally: “make yourself smart”; it means something like “wake up!” “open your eyes!”

Hey guys, my week has been pretty hectic but I made time to create a few printables that will hopefully help you with your school life. Click on the titles (links to the file on my Study Drive) to download them!

T A S K  T R A C K E R

To help you keep track of all your assignments, homework, projects, etc. Includes a progress bar that you can shade in according to how much of the assignment you’ve completed. You can also set a goal or expected score and compare it to your final score. I included fields for “date given” and “date due” so that you can prioritize and plan your tasks accordingly. I wanted to include a box to check when you’ve submitted the assignment because sometimes I complete the assignment but forget to submit it, or I’ve already submitted the assignment but panic because I thought I hadn’t done it yet. I couldn’t squeeze this into the sheet, but I think you could just put a tick beside the due date or something.

For subjects that require you to memorize formulas, like physics, economics, math, etc. The left column is for the formula, while the right is for variables and their units, e.g. “v = u + at” would go on the left, while the right column would have something like “v: final velocity/ms-1; u: initial velocity/ms-1; a: acceleration/ms-2; t: time/s”.
