Read It Here!Â
Author: molossiamerica (afjakwrites).
Genre: Romance, fantasy.Â
Rating: T+.Â
(USUK/UKUS/USUKUS)
One-shot (3.693 words).
Summary:Â The Jones family is cursed, but Alfred doesnât view his demon as much of a problem. This fic is based off of the comic Cursed by the lovely charminglyantiquated (tumblr), who gave me permission to post this. :) If you havenât seen the comic or any of their other stuff, I highly recommend you check it out!
Drama level: All is rainbows/A small problem happens for like a second/Some conflicts and tense situations but you can handle it/You may shed some tears/NO TEARS LEFT TO CRY
â
- Analysis -
The recommended story this time is not as long as the other ones. It is more like a tasty snack for the end of your day instead of a three-course meal. It is based on an original comic posted on tumblr that I really like, but it has enough variations in the story to be unique and enjoyable to read even for those who have already seen the comic.
Alfredâs family members carry a curse that causes them to be tormented by personal demons (literally) from the age of seventeen. Fortunately, they have a ring that protects them, preventing the demons from being able to touch them.
The story begins when Alfred turns seventeen and his personal demon, Arthur, appears. Although Arthur clearly likes to annoy and tease Alfred, he doesnât really want to hurt him. After a year, they start becoming friends and began developing feelings for each other, but there is a hesitation on Alfredâs part to take off the ring, which causes a physical barrier between them.
For anyone who likes to see Alfred and Arthur bantering, the dialogue here is gold. The romantic and sexual tension of having two characters who like each other, not being able to touch each other until they are sure that they completely trust each other is very good to read, which makes this premise very interesting. We definitively need more of the combo demon + fluffy. It is unusual but delightful.Â
Itâs also quite fun to see the evolution in Alfred and Arthurâs relationship from mutual disapproval to genuine affection. I think the author did a great job of summarizing a long period of time with significant marks of what happened in it. The progression of the charactersâ relationship seems very natural and genuine because of it. Here is a scene that shows this talent of the author:Â
Because Alfred lives alone, they spend most of their time together. Alfred becomes accustomed to cooking enough for two, and they take turns watching TV. They start a list of movies they both want to see, and once a week Alfred rents one off the list for them to watch together. Arthur feeds Alfredâs cat, Hero, and tends to the plants Alfred purchased for him. When the American is too tired from work and school, Arthur tidies up the apartment for him. Alfred even buys a futon for Arthur when the Brit mentions the awkwardness of staying up all night while he sleeps and gives the spare room to Arthur.
See? The choice of what is being shown of their lives during this period of time is enough for us to not only to have a picture of their day-to-day lives but also see the building of mutual trust and affection. This almost feels like a movie scene. Itâs very visual and subtle at the same time.
I wonât say how the story ends, so be sure to check it out to find out yourself! It is a very cute and fun one and I definitely recommend it!
â
Some of my favorite parts:Â
- âWell, itâs your familyâs fault some witch decided to curse your ancestors. Now a demon is randomly selected every time one of you idiots turns seventeen. You would think your family would simply stop reproducing, but apparently the primal urges of your nature far outweigh the emotional toll it takes on your offspring.â The man scowls.
âHey, man, you wonât have to worry about that with me. Trust me, I wouldnât ever subject a kid to the sight of eyebrows like that.â
- Arthur resents that ring. The more time he spends with Alfred, the more he craves Alfredâs touch. The more he wishes he could run his hands through Alfredâs hair, down his body. He wants to explore Alfredâs gorgeous form; cup Alfredâs face in his hands, run his palms down the Americanâs muscular chest⌠He wants Alfred to touch him, too; to take him into his arms and kiss him roughly, hold him tight. He wants to kiss every inch of Alfredâs body, and he wants Alfred to do the same. He wants to feel Alfred everywhere, wants to feel the American pressing into him, ravishing him. Yes, he resents that ring.
-âYou know we canât touch each other, love.â
âYeah, we fucking can,â Alfred growls out, looking annoyed.

a long overdue announcment
hey everyone! so, as many of you have probably guessed, after six of years of being utterly obsessed, hetalia is no longer my main fandom. i still love aph and usuk in particular, but in all honesty iâve really enjoyed branching out and writing new characters in different fandoms. this blog has been amazing and i love it so much, but i just donât have the same motivation to write usuk that i did before. that doesnât mean that i never will again, it just means that it probably wonât be nearly as often.Â
that being said, i donât want to give up on this blog without at least asking everyone for their thoughts. the way i see it, there are two potential options for this blog:
it becomes a multifandom blog, probably with a focus on bnha, mp100, and aph fics
itâs abandoned entirely (everything will be left up, i just wonât post anymore)
personally, i think it would be cool to make this a multifandom blog and continue to write for yâall, but i want to get as many opinions as possible. but it wouldnât be very much fun if no one interacted with my posts, so i want to see what everyone thinks. if you like this blog, i would really, really appreciate it if you could leave some feedback! do you want to me to open this blog up to more fandoms, or should i leave it as is and just stop posting?Â
thanks! <3Â

I loved your most recent fic with the soulmates AUâbut why couldnât Matthew have just written on Alfredâs arm instead? Why didnât Alfred write back in braille? Or at least just give him his number?
Hi!
1. Only what your soulmate writes appears on you, not sure if I actually wrote that in the fic but I should have!
2. Iâm actually working on an explanation as to why Alfred didnât write back (besides the fact that heâs blind and canât write well) but basically he didnât want to disrespect Arthurâs privacy because he was writing some pretty heavy stuff that Alfred didnât want Matthew reading, so he didnât know what was written and therefore couldnât write back in response.
3. ......the drama of it all ahajakshskasja
Thank you so much for reading! Iâm glad you enjoyed and I hope this helped! <3
usuk fic?? much angst??? soulmate au where everything you write on your wrist goes on your soulmates??????????? and maybe alfred is blind? so he cant see anything written there much less reply? so arthur thinks he aint got no soulmate? jgbshajhygvshuytb i love your writingg hhhhh i read all your usuk fanfics in like a day
Title: you were right here all the time (i was blind)Pairing: USUKWords: 3,114AU: Human/SoulmateGenre: Romance/AngstSummary: Arthur grows up believing he has no soulmate. Then he runs into him in a grocery store.A/N: Wow! I canât believe itâs been over a month since my last post! I changed the prompt a little, but I hope you like it nonetheless. Title taken from OK GOâs Skyscrapers. !!! TW for mentions of self harm and alcoholism !!!
Arthur was six years old the first time he saw his fatherâs neat handwriting appear seemingly by magic upon the back of his motherâs pale, freckled hand.
âMum, whatâs that?â He asked, forest green eyes peering curiously at her hand.
Aliceâs eyesâthe same sparkling green as Arthurâsâflitted downward and a soft, fond smile stretched across her slim face. âYour fatherâs making a grocery list,â she said gently, watching as the words appeared letter-by-letter upon the milky white skin of her hand.
Milk, tomatoes, butter, tea, spaghetti noodles.
Alice smiled and reached into her pocket, extracting a pen. Donât forget bread, she added in her loopy cursive script. Arthur watched in wide-eyed fascination as more words appeared below hers, again in his fatherâs handwriting. Right. Love you.Â
I love you too, wrote Alice in return before raising her eyes to her sonâs face and giggling at the starstruck expression he wore.Â
âMum, are you and dad magic?!â Asked Arthur excitedly.Â
Aliceâs giggle turned into a full-on laugh. She reached out, resting her ink-covered hand over Arthurâs shoulder and smiling broadly at him. âNo, sweetheart, although I believe thereâs a certain magic about your father and I share. Weâre soulmates.â
âSoulmates?â Arthur echoed curiously. Heâd heard the word more times than he could count, but heâd never fully understood its meaning.
âYes. When people are meant to be together, they can communicate in a way they canât with others. Whatever your soulmate writes on themselves will appear on you, and vice versa. Your father and I are soulmates, which is why we can write back and forth to each other.â
âWhen can you start writing to your soulmate?â
âWell, you have to know how to write first. Your father wrote to me for the first time when I was only twoâheâs six years older than me, so it took me a while before I could write back. But once I could we wrote to each other every day.â
Arthur peered down at his motherâs other hand, which was empty of words, and then down to his own pale palm. âDo I have a soulmate?â
âOf course,â she said. âEveryone does, either platonic or romantic.â
âCan I write to them?â
âYes, if you want,â she said, smiling gently.Â
Arthur reached for the pen and put it to his arm, writing the words Hello soulmate in the messy script of a six-year-old. His mother grinned and moved her hand from his shoulder to his head, ruffling his pale blond hair affectionately.Â
âWeâll have to wait for them to respond now.â
âHow long will it take?â Arthur questioned.Â
âThatâs up to them,â Alice replied gently.Â
Arthur never got a response.Â
As the years wore on, Arthur wrote to his soulmate daily. When he was nine and still hadnât received a response, his mother assured him that there was nothing to worry about. Perhaps he was older than his his soulmate, she suggested, like she and his father. His soulmate may not have been able to write back yet; or, perhaps, they werenât even born yet.Â
When Arthur was twelve and still hadnât received a response, his father patted him on the back and told him that sometimes people got nervous about responding. He had felt strange about replying to Arthurâs mother at times, he said, because she was so much younger than him and wanted to talk about their relationship. Perhaps Arthurâs soulmate could tell that he was much younger and felt uncomfortable writing back, too.Â
When Arthur was fourteen, Arthur shed the first of many tears over his absent soulmate. His best friend, Francis, rested his ink-covered palm over Arthurâs blank one and promised Arthur that his soulmate was out there. That night, Arthur put a pen to his arm and wrote please, please be out there.Â
When Arthur was seventeen, he accepted the fact that he had no perfect match. That night he took something much sharper than a pen to his wrist.Â
When Arthur was twenty-eight, he started writing to his soulmate again. He knew, realistically, that he didnât have one; heâd long since come to terms with the fact that he was one of those extraordinarily rare individuals who had no ideally-suited match. In his teenage years, the knowledge that he was destined to be alone had resulted in more nights with his fingers clasped around a bottle or a blade than he could count, but heâd long since cleaned up his act. Knowing that he would never have something 99% of the population hadâespecially when that something was so beautifulâwas painful, of course, but he wasnât entirely alone.Â
There were people with awful soulmates, people whose soulmates were abusers. There were people whose soulmates were dead or dying. There were people who disliked their soulmates or had fallen out of love with them; it wasnât uncommon for married soulmates to get divorced and re-marry someone outside of their match these days, although some still considered it taboo.Â
Arthur could accept that, he thought. He could be happy falling in love with someone outside of a match, if he ever found them. After all, love was what one made it; if two people really loved each other, they could make it work no matter the odds. At least, that was what his friends and family had told him. Arthur didnât know if he was totally sold on the idea of âtrue loveâ yet. How could he be, when the universe was clearly trying to tell him that it couldnât happen for him?Â
Nonetheless, heâd started to write on himself again as a way to cope. It was nice to write to his soulmate, even if he knew that he was writing to a person who didnât exist. He covered himself from elbow to wrist, thigh to ankle, in ink. He wrote about his hopes and dreams, his fears, his day, anything and everything that came to him. He liked the idea of his soulmate reading his words and being comforted by them, although he knew it was impossible.Â
Today, Arthur jotted a grocery list down on the heel of his palm the way heâd seen his father do all those years ago. He even signed it with an I love you, and imagined his soulmate taking up a pen the way his mother had and writing a soft, I love you too in return. Â
The walk to the supermarket was a calm and easy one. The sun was low in the sky, the world awash with its golden light. It was warm enough that Arthur didnât even bother with a jacket, and heâd rolled his jumper up to the elbows. It used to embarrass him, having all of the ink he covered himself in on display, but now he rather enjoyed how normal it made him feel. People would walk by and smile, complimenting him on how sweet he and his soulmate were for writing so much to each other, and Arthur would get to pretend, if only for a moment, that there was someone out there writing back to him.Â
Arthur entered the supermarket, scooping up a basket on his way in. He walked slowly through the aisles, taking his time to find what he needed. Heâd stopped and was reaching out to grab some tea when an older woman approached with a smile, patting his shoulder. âYou and your soulmate are so sweet, writing to each other like that,â she said, eyes glittering with sincere happiness.
Arthur smiled softly down at her, âthank you, miss.â
âItâs adorable that you write to each other even though youâre together now, too. People must compliment the two of you all the time!âÂ
Arthurâs thick brows furrowed and he blinked, confused. âIâm sorry, Iâm not quite sure what you mean. I havenât met my soulmate yet,â he lied, because it was easier than explaining that he was pathetic enough to write to someone who didnât exist.Â
âOh! Iâm sorry, dear. I saw a man with arms covered like yours in the next aisle over and assumed he was with you because the handwriting looked similar. Iâm sorry to bother you, then!â She chuckled, patting his shoulder lightly before turning and walking off.Â
Arthur paused, watching her leave with widened eyes. There couldnât⌠She couldnât have seen⌠No. It was impossible. Arthur didnât have a soulmate; it was just a coincidence, surely. There were other people who wrote a lot to each other; it wasnât as if he was the only one with ink-covered arms. There was no use getting his hopes over nothing.Â
And yet, Arthur felt his heart beating faster in his chest, and a feeling eh couldnât place had settled over him. It was something like longing, something urging him to investigate, to seek out this man. But why? Surely he had no soulmate, so why work himself up? His soulmate wouldnât had gone all these years without ever writing back to him⌠Would they?Â
Before Arthur could stop himself, he was turning on his heel and rushing into the next aisle. It was empty, aside from two tall, blond men standing side-by-side at the opposite end. They were nearly identical in appearance; twins, most likely. One had a pair of round glasses and was scanning the shelf while the other had his back to Arthur and was speaking animatedly, arms moving wildly as he spoke. Sure enough, in his sky blue t-shirt, his ink-covered arms were clearly visible. Arthur was standing too far away to make out any of the words or the handwriting, but something about the sight made the hair on the back of his neck stand up.
Self-conscious, Arthur rolled down the sleeves of his deep green jumper to hide his writing. His heart was racing and he didnât know why. He tried to convince himself that it didnât matter what was written on the manâs arms because he had no soulmate, but he couldnât make himself walk away. In fact, his feet began to carry him forward, toward the two pair of men, until he was approaching the one with his back turned.Â
âExcuse me,â he said. The man with his back turned jumped, startled, and whirled around. His twin placed a steadying hand on his shoulder.Â
âItâs okay, Al,â said the one with round glasses before meeting Arthurâs gaze over his brotherâs shoulder and smiling politely. âHello,â he greeted, obviously confused by the stranger who had approached.Â
âHi,â Arthur said, shifting his weight from foot to foot and feeling incredibly foolish. âI couldnât help but to notice your arms. I-I just think itâs so sweet, how much you and your soulmate write to each other,â he said, parroting the words of the woman from before. He couldnât bring himself to look down and scan the manâs arms, nor could he bring himself to look up into the manâs face, so instead he settled for looking past him to his twin.Â
âOh,â said the manâAl, as his twin had called himâsheepishly. âThanks! I guess they write to me a lot. I think itâs sweet too!âÂ
âThey sure write a lot,â his twin added with a smile, âAlfred already had words on him when he was born.â
Arthur still hadnât brought himself to look into the manâs face or at his arms. âIs that so? That must have been quite the surprise for your parents. Would you mind if IâŚ?â Arthur trailed off, freckled cheeks flushing awkwardly.
âOh! Sure!â The man exclaimed, raising an arm slightly. âIâm Alfred, by the way, and thatâs Matthew.â
Arthur barely had the sense to give Alfred his name in return, already reaching out to take Alfredâs arm in his hand. Heâd hardly taken a glance at his the manâs arm when he paled, his familiar script unmistakable to him. He glanced down and caught sight of the shopping list heâd written less than an hour ago on Alfredâs palm. The sight of his âI love youâ on Alfredâs tan hand made his heart ache.Â
âWhatâs wrong?â Matthew asked, seeming to realize that something was off based on the ghost like paleness of Arthurâs face.Â
âI-IâŚâ Arthur trailed off and slowly released Alfredâs arm. He was still reeling from the shock of what was happening, but he managed to pull up one of his sleeves to reveal the identical writing along his arm. Not once had he looked into Alfredâs face, unable to meet the manâs eyes knowing what he knew. So he had a soulmate after all, and somehow it was still painful. Arthur had hoped and prayed for this for years, and yet now that it was happening all he could feel was pain. Obviously Alfred didnât want himâwhy else would he have never responded?Â
Matthewâs eyes flickered from Alfredâs arm to Arthurâs and back. His jaw fell open. âOh my god,â he gasped.Â
âWhat? Mattie, whatâs wrong?â Alfred asked, as if he were entirely oblivious to the entire encounter. Arthur felt a bit of rage flare up within him at that; how could Alfred act so unaware? How could his soulmate be someone so cruel?Â
âAl, youâThis isâyour arms match! This is your soulmate!â Matthew cried, still gaping.
âWhat?!â Alfred cried incredulously, his voice taking on a sweet, sing-song quality out of excitement. âOh my god, itâs so nice to meet you! You said it was Arthur, right? Thatâs such a cute name. I love your accent too! I-I canât believe youâre here, oh my god, I wanna know everything! Youâre from England, right? How old are you? What are your hobbies? What do youââ
âAl, give him a chance to breathe!â Matthew cut in hurriedly, seeming to note the distress written across Arthurâs handsome face.Â
Despite Alfredâs obvious enthusiasm, Arthur was incredibly confused and more than a little angry. How could he act so excited and happy as if he hadnât left Arthur alone and thinking he didnât have a soulmate for most of his life? Rage was burning hot within him, forcing its way out of his body in the form of hot tears that gathered in the corner of his virescent eyes. Arthur finally gathered the courage to raise his head and look into his soulmateâs face for the first time, fixing him with a heated glare.Â
Alfred was grinning widely, his smile by far the most beautiful thing Arthur had ever seen. His eyes were a gorgeous, striking blue with flecks of gold and his thick lashes made them look even larger than they were. Excitement was clear in his expression, and yet there was something slightly off. Alfred wasnât looking into Arthurâs face and rather at the top of his head, perhaps a little past him.Â
âWhy did you never write back?â Arthur demanded, ignoring his soulmateâs confusing behavior. âI spent all this time thinking I had no one! I wrote to you every single night for years, begging you to respond to me! I-I thought I was destined to be alone forever, and you let me! How could you?!â He asked, immediately turning on his heel and making to run.Â
âWait!â Matthew cried, pushing past Alfred to grab Arthur by the wrist. Arthur stopped, astonished, and whipped around to glare at him.Â
âWhy the hell are you defending him?! Let go of me!â Arthur yanked his wrist out of Matthewâs strong hand, punctuating his action with a string of loud curse words.
âIâm blind!â Alfred suddenly shouted over Arthur, taking a few steps forward until his shoulder bumped against Matthewâs. âIâm so sorry, I-I know I must have hurt you, but I swear I didnât mean to! Sometimes Mattie read them to me, but I could never respond because I donât write very well. Please, please donât go,â he begged, and Arthur noted with rapidly growing horror that tears had appeared in the corners of Alfredâs eyes too.Â
âYouâre blind,â Arthur said, a stab of guilt cutting through him as he spoke. âOh my god, youâre blind.âÂ
Alfredâs cheeks were flushed red from embarrassment. âIâm so sorry,â he said, âI promise I didnât mean to make you feel alone, and I understand if youâre still angry, but⌠Please donât go.â
âWhy are you apologizing?â Arthur asked, shaking his head rapidly. Tears were springing to his eyes again, but this time they were from relief. âOh my god, Iâm such an arse. I canât believe I just yelled at you for being blind.â
âItâs okay,â Alfred said, a bit of laughter escaping him, âyouâre kind of a hothead, arenât you?âÂ
Arthurâs cheeks flooded with heat, still feeling extremely guilty for his outburst. âAgain, I apologize. If youâd give me a chance, Iâd love to make a better second impression,â he said, and flashed a sheepishly apologetic smile at Matthew, who was watching the scene unfold.
Alfred beamed, his eyes still looking a little past Arthur. âDude, Iâm just glad you still want me,â he laughed. âYou sounded pretty angry there for a second.â
Arthur couldnât help but to laugh a little, years of hurt seeming to melt away within seconds when faced with Alfredâs carefree smile. âOf course I do.âÂ
âIn that case, would you mind if I felt your face? Nothing creepy, itâs just to get a sense of what you look like.âÂ
âOf course,â Arthur said. Alfred raised his hands and Arthur took them gently in his own, guiding them to his face.Â
âYouâre short,â Alfred said with a startled laugh. âHave I been looking past you this whole time?âÂ
âItâs alright,â Arthur said, flushing when the Americanâs warm palms came to rest on his cheeks. Slowly, gently, Alfredâs hands moved across his face; when his thumb brushed along Arthurâs lips, he let out a little hum of appreciation that had Arthur going cherry red.Â
âYou have soft skin,â Alfred mused. âWhat color?â
Arthur was half-tempted to lie, if only to make himself seem more attractive, but he knew that wouldnât be fair. âPale as a ghost and covered in freckles,â he sighed, resigned to his fate.Â
âCute,â Alfred replied. âWhat color are your eyes?â He asked as he brushed his thumb gently along Arthurâs thick lashes.
âGreen,â Arthur supplied.Â
âYouâre really handsome.â
Arthur flushed. âThank you. You are, too.â
Alfredâs smile widened. âReally?â
âOf course,â Arthur said, and there wasnât an ounce of doubt in his voice. âYouâre gorgeous.â
Alfredâs cheeks went delightfully red and he opened his mouth to say something back, only to stall when his fingers ran across Arthurâs thick eyebrows. âHoly shit, your eyebrows are huge!â He exclaimed loudly, still with a happy smile stuck upon his face.
Arthur was so lovestruck, he couldnât even find it in him to be mad.
