How do you have a stagewalk with zero stage access for wheelchair users? How do you knowingly have disabled participants and exclude them in a mini-event within the event? ("Everybody stand up and plug in those cords!") How do you fuck up your communication so bad that an award for heart was presented to a server without saying what it was actually fully for? (Scar said he was told it was about the Gamers Outreach charity streams, got presented live as an award to Hermitcraft in general for their 10 seasons of play instead and made it seem like he was pushing the charity event unprompted despite this award coming from Mojang themselves who contributed to Gamers Outreach because of the past charity events Scar hosted) How do you have up to 4 instances where players need to access the stage, 3 of which were pre-planned, and the 4th was a high possibility, and yet zero access to the stage outside steps anyway? Why is your first thought to make them go through the crowd instead as their entrance in place of their stage walkout, putting themselves at risk, all of which their safety is in your hands?

The whole thing was fucked. I already hated Twitch, but good lord, I feel like they screwed over Scar so much, especially with that setup placement too. Why are your speakers placed next to a streaming setup when you know they'll be blasting anyway? Ah yes, a competition, known to be won by the best players and teamwork dynamics of their player roster, and you set it up so when your ambiance is going on, a player's desk is shaking. How often does this happen?

And in the end, they still didn't know how to really treat Scar when Pink Parrots won. "Hold that crown up high with your team" meanwhile they all tower over his wheelchair. They can't control that one, but c'mon. She could've said literally anything else and yet she told everyone to put a hand on it and hold it high up.

An aromantic reading of Double Life is literally about how a system built on over-reliance on a singular (romantically implied) relationship, especially one you cannot choose, leads to people being ostracised and isolated because there is no built-in community to fall back on if that relatiosnhip ever goes wrong. It's a study in how amatonormativity hurts everyone in the long run and we see it play out with MULTIPLE soulmate pairings.

The most prominent example is of course that the importance of Pearl's isolation isn't even that Scott rejected her, it's that Martyn left her too (despite the fact that Cleo and Scott clearly expected the two of them to team up), it's that nobody else would give her a hand, it's that the rest of the server came to view Pearl as scary and strange and unwanted because she didn't have a soulmate, and they did, so why would they bother to take her in? That's not how the system works, she's supposed to be with her soulmate.

Then we have further examples with how pairings like Scar and Grian, or Ren and BigB stay with each other despite being unhappy and full of conflict because That's What You're Supposed To Do. We have people reacting to Scott and Cleo's choice to live together (a sort of narrative queerness) with skepticism and disdain. There develops a classic facet of amatonormativity where endurance is a virtue, where it's better to stay in an unhappy relationship than to be alone or to go against the grain.
