Motivés par l'amour

They don’t matter. None of them and all of them. People who size you up to determine your worth are letting you know that your presence upsets them and they are trying to justify their own mediocre existence. Be great. Be unapologetic. Be gracious and don’t let them take your smile.

I feel super invigorated this morning and am looking forward to finishing my Jazmine Sullivan Painting finally! This painting is so difficult and is kicking my a** for a couple of reasons:

1. I drew her from several images so I would not be recreating someone else’s photography work, which leaves me without a principle reference for lighting, which helps me develop and paint her face accurately.

2. There are so many different shades of her skin between red carpet lighting, instagram selfies, magazine photo shoots and live shows, getting her true shade has been rough 😔. I want it to be as accurate as possible.

3. Trying to keep up with the sun has been my major battle, even with summer days being longer, once the sun starts to shift at about 5pm, it messes with all my colors. I try to get home from work around 3 or 4:30 most days but I’m usually just missing the deadline and have to remix colors.

4. Summer heat keeps drying out my paints and the application is suffering.

But no more worries because I am determined, well rested (I was making myself sick with guilt about not finishing earlier) and not comparing myself to my previous work 😄. I wanted this message to be short but this list actually helped me lol. I won’t give myself a deadline to upload but its coming and I want to get back to my fashionable black girl watercolors soon too, I’ve been so inspired lately!
