At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.

“We call upon all former miners and their families to join the Durham Miners' Association at Durham Pride UK from 10:30 am to march from Palace Green through the streets of Durham. Mike Jackson ,founder of Lesbian and Gays support the Miners, will march with our banner.
