As usual, my Tumbeasts, you get this link before anyone else (except the people following me on SoundCloud, obvs.)
Pssst. Hey, Tumblr. I will cross-link this elsewhere in the morning, but you can have it now.

Bad things, good things, and other things.
I despise this urge for competition, one-upmanship, living our lives as if they are a race to reach the finish line first and with the greatest accolades. It dictates our push forward, our motivation for betterment, rather than allowing those initiatives of self-improvement to be driven from an internal force willing us to invest holistically into the ideal of wanting to be the best person we, personally, can be. It creates a struggle - floundering to keep up, flailing in our work to capitalize on the next big thing. What happened to the slow burbling creek, content with “eventually”? Eventually we will get there, a winding path meandering in its journey, sailing along on the winds at a reasonable pace, taking time to smell the roses. I feel a pressure to have it all, be the best, while the rest of me wants to step back and take time to just enjoy the view.
This is one of my favorite things to read. I’ve just kept it in my drafts for, like, over a year. It’s weird to me that it only has 200 notes because I’ve probably read it more times than that personally. So…finally /actually/ reblogging this. From deep in the depths of Tumblr…
Wow, that post is exactly where my head’s at right now. Not literally detached and floating above the Chicago Skyline but you know what I mean! (Though that would be pretty cool.)
Pretty much this.
BO SPEAKS TRUTH.
Worth watching if only to hear Hank Green say 'fuck success'. But also for other reasons.

Q&A
I might record a Q&A segment tonight. What are your Qs (so that I can A them)?
Two episodes in the same week? What am I doing with my life.
Pics or it didn't happen? As I mentioned on Twitter, I met Jason Umber this past Friday. I might talk about it on the podcast this week.

Segues (2020) Directed by Salome Smith
Probably the 'artsiest' movie on my list, I can't fully explain my love for this little independent piece about gay counter-culture in South Africa. The pacing is uneven, and some of the acting leaves a lot to be desired (although the core cast is thanfully solid.) It's even got a sequence in totally unnecessary black and white. And yet somehow I love it with my whole wretched little heart. I'm not going to defend it, but I do recommend it.
Mad Lizard (2019) Directed by Charlie McDonnell
And coming in at number one on my list -- reverse-chronologically, anyway -- Charlie McDonnell's second feature-length movie (and the first one with a serious amount of money behind it.) Every bit as whimsical and strange as you would expect a Charlie movie to be, but with production values that show in every shot and every angle. I don't care how beloved this movie may be by some, it remains under-appreciated for what it is: a breakthrough masterpiece.

Adam Venturi’s Top 10 Under-Appreciated Movies Of The Last Decade (In Reverse-Chronological Order)
Left & Leaving (2022) Directed by Stephanie Beatriz
Diverting from comedic fare for something a little more dramatic and melancholy, next on my list is this charming little movie about death. Our heroine, already dealing with the loss of her father to terminal cancer, is confronted with the unexpected death of her best friend in a mountaineering accident. From there things get weird, of course. Keep your eyes peeled for the brief director cameo in the third act.
The Art of Fielding (2021) Directed by Josh Boone
This movie adaptation of the Chad Harbach novel of the same name languished for years in development hell; it was released on almost the precise ten-year anniversary of the publication of the book. And it was worth the wait. Another sad story, and another movie that is ultimately about death -- although in this case the death is more metaphorical. I've already said too much; it is, in short, a well-constructed, quirky, idiosyncratic take on the hero's journey.
