Dancing with Jean (drabble)
TODAY IS THE LOVE OF MY LIFE'S BIRTHDAY SO HERE WE GO
- Jean Kirschtein was a man who saved the world, but whenever he danced with you, you saved him right back. - Jean Kirschtein x Female Reader Genre: Fluff WC: 879 -
Dancing with Jean felt heavy.
Like thick cream whirling around in coffee, or syrup dripping down a plate. Tender, slow touches, soft kisses pressed to the sides of necks as you sway in the moonlight. Bundled up together, his arms don’t feel so gangly, nor his height so awkward; you fit perfectly against his chest, head resting just beneath his throat, against his heart. His grip on you was tight but loving, almost desperate, as if when he let go you would drift out amongst the stars.
That was just his insecurity talking. There was no way you’d leave the galaxy trapped in his soul, nor venture out from the stars in his eyes. The air shimmered with magic whenever you touched; his whole body lurched forward into yours, and you caught him, cradled him in warmth and love he truly didn’t believe he deserved until he met you.
As if he had any room to talk. Just as he considered you his savior, you also knew he saved you from the horrible things he had seen. You knew it from the way he caressed your face, like it was a polished gem; the way he swept your hair behind your ear, like it obscured your shining eyes; the way he ran his fingers down your back, like it grounded him. The pain eclipsed across his face whenever you met eyes, but you were his safe haven, his light in the darkness. The kisses he pressed against your temple and the crystalline tears falling down his cheeks were his promises to protect you from everything he had witnessed.
Dancing with him was his therapy. Not a word was spoken, it was just understood; whenever the pain was too much, whenever the burden threatened to snap him in half, he would pull you to your feet, grab your waist and hand, and dance. No music, no beat, nothing dictating how to move; you just swayed as your bodies let you, directed by the stars and buzzing cicadas and the burning of your own hearts.
And even when the memories overwhelmed him, when he had to drop his face into your shoulder and clutch you tight, squeezing as the tears wracked his body, you held him close, rocking him back and forth in the dance you refused to end.
It was weightless. The sparkling heavenly bodies made for a vast curtain blanketing you both in starlight, a little shield that afforded him some spare time to rest in your arms.
Touching you was the only time he could bear to close his eyes. Without you, all he remembered was the pain, the terror he experienced in his youth. Forced to relive every horrific moment that made him the battle-scarred man who held you close, the images of his dead comrades and friends slashed across the back of his eyes. But somehow, holding you abated those memories. Like magic, whenever you touched him the pain dissipated. It was still there--it would always be there--but as long as you were there, too, he could handle it.
His body shuddered when you traced your fingers over the familiar scars stretching across his skin. It was unconscious, your bodies so in sync that you knew the story behind every single one as if they were your own. In his own time he tried to explain them, how he had attained each off-colored mark, but there were some he couldn’t articulate--the gash stretching from his ribs to his hip and the one curling behind his knee were too painful to discuss--but you traced and kissed them anyways. Even underneath all his layers of clothing and spite, he could feel your soft lips against each one, healing what was broken and could never be fully fine. And yet, you tried.
Jean was only a man. He bore the cross of a broken civilization on his already bleeding shoulders. Why you would be with him, after all he had done, truly amazed him. Why you would let him hold you with his bloodstained hands confused him, but he clung to your touch and adored you for finding him somehow worthy, when you could have easily found someone cleaner, someone without baggage, whose pride never faltered and whose hands never killed.
You washed him clean with your tears and purified him with your love.
Time heals all wounds, yet the rotation of the earth seemed to stall whenever you clung to each other. Like the universe was giving you a break, just a few hushed minutes of peace before it had to start on its way again. You soaked them up like the sun; he soaked them up like rain.
Dancing with him felt like worship. Gently kissing his lips and whispering his name sent him to a heaven far outweighing any earthly ecstasy. Holding you close was his act of devotion to his goddess; your body was his temple, and he longed to worship at your feet, swearing a covenant to love, serve, and protect you until the stars burned out. Faithfully yours, dedicating himself to you, a tried-and-true soldier and servant of your soul.
Jean Kirschtein was a man who saved the world, but whenever he danced with you, you saved him right back.

Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice
in which you don’t know much about ground zero, except that he’s a selfish asshole who keeps stealing your coveted pumpkin spice muffin in the morning and eating it. right in front of you. with that stupid smirk on his face
bakugo katsuki x reader
wc: 4.9k genre: fluff, pro hero au, slow burn type: one-shot warnings: none
part of the sweater weather collab || prompt #8 from this list
“the fuck was that?” he asks, incredulous but clearly amused. you like the expression he’s giving you right now far better than the arrogant smirks and shit-eating grins that you’re so very used to; he’s fighting back a genuine smile like he’s enjoying your dumb antics.
“i don’t know,” you whine in response. “i panicked.”
“why? jeez, and i was looking forward to seeing you today, too.”
“yeah, that’s why i panicked! how do you think most people would react if they saw some pro hero looking for them?”
ground zero blinks. a little frown forms on his lips, almost a pout. it’s kind of adorable. clearly, he hadn’t thought about that. “kinda figured i wasn’t just some pro hero to you by now.”
