alex confirmed that she ships montlie (fork found in kitchen) and plays them in that way, and that she and peter interpret them in the same way

alex put on a tie and peter put on some glasses and they roleplayed montlie for three whole songs. "can you all see charlie?" "yes monty" "good boy" ok?

the songs they sang as monty and charles (which included changing names and pronouns to fit montlie) were: popular from wicked, unworthy of your love from assassins, and we're just friends from i love you because. please go and listen to the second two if you don't know them. they were utterly INSANE choices

not relevant to montlie but they also sang useful from mince as themselves. "no second contract for alex and pete" "i don't think that it's people like you and me that the crowds come to see" :(

they talked about how it was a small miracle that they were able to play montlie together at the same time - peter was originally offered a cover role in year 2 but turned it down, and then auditioned again for year 3. with both of them being a similar age and at a similar point in their lives with children etc it was really easy for them to get into the flow of the relationship because they see things so likemindedly

when alex was cast she was desperate to find out who her charles was going to be ("i knew this relationship was going to be so important") and when she found out it was peter she slid into his dms with "father's here. is it true we're going to be fighting the germans together?"

many many many filthy jokes, and alex sucking on her microphone like, well,

re: the choice to have monty always fussing at charles' tie, alex said that monty needs to know people are with him, so it's a form of reassurance not just for charles but for monty who "uses it to calm himself down as well" because it's one thing he can control in times of stress when he otherwise feels so helpless. but they also acknowledged that it's something that becomes quite possessive and aggressive, referencing the humiliating one in bloody tea scene - "keeping him in his place"

Sometimes I think I have felt everything I'm ever gonna feel. And from here on out, I'm not gonna feel anything new. Just lesser versions of what I've already felt.

It's hard to argue with this selection. My 12-year-old son, Rob, was going through a pile of ballots, and he asked me how ``MacArthur Park'' goes, so I sang it, giving it my best shot, and Rob laughed so hard that when I got to the part about leaving the cake out in the rain, and it took so long to bake it, and I'll never have that recipe again, Rob was on the floor. He didn't BELIEVE those lyrics were real. He was SURE his wacky old humor-columnist dad was making them up.

"[Fan fiction] was pointed out to me at one point and I thought it was very humorous," Kapranos says. "The thing I didn’t realize is that there are so many hot blooded girls who are really kind of into this voyeuristic thing about homosexual sex. At first I thought they’d been spying on my private life and then I realized it’s just fantasy."

"I think it’s brilliant. It’s really, really funny. And I like that sort of thing cause it means that there’s people who have imagination who are inspired by your personality and the things that you’ve done, so it’s a good thing," he says.

"There’s absolutely nothing wrong with fictionalizing a genuine character as long as you make it clear that you are fictionalizing, which I think all that slash stuff does."
