Okay we started paying attention and it turns out that we generally switch in Justin or Spica whenever we work! (No surprise there; they're generally the best at masking.) It was Spica for a while, then Justin, then Spica (because Justin was getting a little mouthy), but then Spica needed a break so Justin started switching in again (he's practiced enough to copy her tone, which makes her feel safer). However, today was an all-hands-on-deck situation! Which was. Super exhausting.
So what happened is that we often man the drive-thru, which involved a lot of multi-tasking. When we do that, there's often a point where our some of us... de-synchronize from each other. All of us are very focused on one part of our senses/functions, and have varying degrees of difficulty with the rest, so when we need to multi-task, some of us end up splitting up the tasks between ourselves.
With enough muscle memory, I think what ends up happening is we move slightly independently of each other? One of us is counting money while one of us is taking an order (it takes two take an order, I think; one listens and repeats the order, and another hears what 'I' say and types it in), and occasionally the one counting money makes a drink, or passes out the food, etc.
Today was crazy busy though, so all of us ended up splitting up tasks between ourselves today.
If I had to guess, Justin was taking the orders (he's the best at processing audio and talking, especially with scripts), Tohru was grabbing and giving stuff (she's got great spatial awareness), and Soren and Spica were handling money and keeping track of people, food, and drinks (I'm the best at registering visuals and translating that info; Spica's usually with me when I'm around, although I think she was also helping Justin with his tone).
It's funny because theoretically this is the most teamwork we've ever had to do, which you'd think would mean we were all working together... but it involved being thoroughly de-synchronized in order for us all to contribute. At the time, it felt like we were made of afterimages. Our awareness of ourselves fluctuated a bit, but it really felt like we were working alongside coworkers in the same body? Although I could definitely feel that we were using the same brain to function; things got mixed up every so often.
Not saying this was good. We did well but I think it really strained us. It was interesting though. In a lab rat sort of way.
