itâs frustrating when youâre talking about an inherently oppressive institution that dehumanizes everyone who is subjected to it and someone is like âitâs especially bad for those it is incorrectly applied to!â as though being the intended victim of an injustice makes it less of a tragedy
been thinking about this lately after some discussions about historical marriage where people have chimed in about how extra awful it would have been for trans men forced into The Wife Role because of dysphoria. which like. yeah. but the thing about The Wife Role in the context of not having civil rights and being the property of a husband is that it is inherently dysphoria-inducing to anyone who identifies as a human being instead of an object.

I think if authors don't know how to finish something they've started they should just leave it where it is. Go out on your weird and sexy high instead of forcing an ending that sucks and is terrible

i think theres this idea in the general public that the "best" fanfic gets turned into real books like 50 shades of grey. but the truth is that the best fanfic can never be published as an actual book because its intricately woven into the canon material so its inseparable even if you change the names
wearing a shirt that says âeven in an au fanfiction, the characters, relationships, or even the scenarios are recognizable in the best fanfic, and an au without ties to the source material may be a fine story but itâs not a good fanfictionâ and booty shorts that say âI HATE FUNâ

Tbh I still don't understand why "in general I don't like this thing but for Your fanwork in particular I am sat" is generally considered to be rude. Like yeah if you're all waxing rhapsodic about how this is the WORST ship in the world and tack on a compliment at the end that's rude but like idk... to me "I have negative interest in this framework but your creations... they compel me" is a compliment
He left his phone unlocked, face up on the unsent message staring at him like an accusation. It was a quarter 'til three in the morning. He wasn't going to send it.
He could. Their text history was littered with similar messages:Â come home with me, mostly. The rest of it unstated. Come sleep in my bed. Shower with me. If you're very good, I'll make you cry stretching you open around my fist.
Or something like that. It was late for that sort of thing tonight, later if Marcel had to drive across town and back first, but he was unsatisfied, restless despite the hour. The lost sleep would be nothing to the weight of Clarke's body, of his surrender. Giving himself over to Marcel's desire, hot and soft and vulnerable in Marcel's hands, until his exhaustion settled Marcel too.
Come over. Move in with me. Be mine.
Training, Clarke called it. Marcel called it a trial. Clarke was not quite twenty-three, had barely even been fucked before Marcel got his hands on him, much less done anything else. All of his scars were his own, experimentation into self-administered pain with a kind of desperate purity that drove Marcel wild. To say Clarke liked to be hurt was an understatement. Marcel suspected he would spend the rest of his life getting off to the memory of the way Clarke had looked at him the first time he'd really beaten him, raw with tears and gratitude, thanking Marcel like it was worship.
He was good. He was so good, good morning and pictures of his breakfast, ounces of water and please may I and a video of himself masturbating, because Marcel had requested it. He hadn't given him permission to come.
But two weeks was a far cry from forever. Anyone could play at being owned for two weeks, could get on his knees and wait for permission, check in multiple times a day, keep his hands off his cock. The frisson of newness lent excitement to subjugation; for two weeks, it was easy to imagine one could fit into the life Marcel wanted. That he might even want it himself.
Marcel knew better. After six months, a year, the rituals of submission lost their erotic shine. The thrill of asking permissionâto stay up late, to go out with friends, to so much as leave the roomâtended to wear off quickly. Fine for a weekend, a sub once told him, but nobody could live like that forever. He'd been unduly pessimistic, it turned out, but only marginally so. Many more men wanted to fantasize about living beneath someone else's will than actually wanted to do so. Clarke had never had a boyfriend, a Dom, never lived with a romantic partner, in all the compromise that normally implied, much less in a dynamic without it.Â
Marcel had tried compromise, and enjoyed it as little as most prospective subs enjoyed 24/7. No breaks, no days off, no stepping out of role. The responsibility of ownership for the confinement of being owned. It sounded insane, even in English, where it was easier to say insane things without attaching to the weight of themâI want you to be my most valuable possession, my most precious treasure. Be mine and I'll take care of you forever.Â
Come over. Stay.
He'd lain it out like a confession. Like an apology. As if it explained the rest of it, why he'd done what he'd doneâhe couldn't have had Clarke anyway without wanting everything, so that made it excusable to offer him nothing.Â
He should have expected Clarke's response, in light of where they'd started, Clarke's first offer of no limits. You can do anything you want to me. Yawning desire untempered by experience.Â
At the time, he'd explained why that wasn't a good idea, that Clarke's right to say no was absolute, that a Dom who wanted him less because he knew what he wouldn't give was not a person he wanted to play with. He should have just gotten out the barbed wire flogger. Five tails, affixed together with a thick handle of duct tape. Homemade, of course. Single-tailed whips could rightly be classed as a weapon, but even sex shops had their limits. He should have said:Â I want your blood on the ceiling.
But he hadn't been in love with Clarke then, and he hadn't wanted to scare him. There was something powerfully wrong with Marcel, that his love wanted to tear chunks with metal teeth.
That part, he could do without. He'd even stopped fantasizing about it, with Ămile. His most precious possession, his heart. Uncomfortable, yes. At the edge of his capacity. Enduring, because Marcel wanted it from him. Crying, always. He'd been fantasizing about making boys cry since he was thirteen; even for Ămile, that had been impossible to subdue. But not bleeding. Not in pain. There had been no pleasure or release in it for him, and the horror of harming someone so beloved had mercifully superseded the part of Marcel's nature which took pleasure in inflicting violence.
The imperative of control did not yield so easily. He fantasized, for brief moments, that he could see the shadow on the other side of it. That the life they'd playacted, on nights they'd been too tired to scene, when Clarke had been raw and tender and Marcel had wanted him anyway, could be enough. He'd been happy, Clarke's weight on his chest and his hand down Clarke's waistband, watching a movie while he idly toyed with his bruised ass until Clarke couldn't contain his squirming. He'd tried to keep the commands to a minimum, to come here, lay with me and maybe later, it's bedtime and show me how you're going to come for me again. You're going to come as many times as I tell you to. Say thank you, beautiful boy, until the vicious demand of his hand could no longer prevent Clarke from going soft in his grip. Stay, I'll clean you up. Things anyone might say. He himself wouldn't have taken to it, but broadly acceptable to those tending towards the right side of the slash.
Even then, it hadn't been enough. He'd felt the lack even with his mouth on Clarke's, their hands wound together with Marcel bent over him, gently wiping up the mess on his belly with a warm washcloth. The absent ritual space where Marcel wanted an ankle cuff, a chain leading to the end of the bed.Â
He should have known then that he was fucked. He'd left his claim on Ămile in Paris along with everything else: the art and his heart and his home and every other thing that had been between them, every object and memory that had tied him to that life. The restraint itself had been symbol onlyâĂmile's cuff easily unfastened, the lead affixed to the only a snap hookâbut the symbol was the point. Control. Belonging. Surrender. Ownership.
I can't offer you a relationship, he'd said. I can't be your boyfriend. If you want to do this again, it stays within itself. When we're done, you owe me nothing. But as long as we're playing... I expect you to be good for me.
More fool him, for falling in love.
Come over.
Past three am, now. The lights still on throughout Marcel's space, kitchen and bedroom and living room and bathroom, long past the time when he should have begun to shut down for the night, unable to settle onto one thing. He wanted without recourse. He wanted, and he couldn't have. Wanted Clarke, wanted his face pressed into his shoulder and his hot breath against his neck, wanted the weight of his body in his lap, wanted him to want to stay. Not for today or tomorrow or the month but forever.
For months, Marcel had put off making the choice, had declined to tell Clarke how he felt or what he wanted because to do so would be an ending. He would fail him as his boss or as his Domâand in wanting neither, he had failed at both.
For that, he could be patient. He could wait while Clarke acclimated to the scale of his demands, the scope of a 24/7 relationship. Marcel knew where he stood, had known for longer than he'd admitted even to himself, and hadn't moved from that spot. The teeth of his love came with jaws; to bite down was to hold, to keep. He would not ask Clarke to move in with him until he was sure, until they were both sure, that this was what they wanted. That it could last. That once they were in it, they were both in it: no breaks, no days off, no stepping out of role.Â
He'd text Clarke in the morning, once sleep had made him more reasonable, able to talk about some time scale less than forever. A weekend, a week, approaching the thing Marcel wanted from the side like it would startle and bolt if he faced it head-on. The problem with saying I want you forever was that Clarke might change his mind.Â
But also itâs kind of rude to assign gender roles and sexual preferences to someone just because theyâre masc. just because she wears a snapback that doesnât mean sheâs a top or able to fix your car or whatever.
Referring to the distinction between those who are and arenât affected by transmisogyny as âarbitrarily constructed gender categoriesâ tells me exactly which of the two you fall into lmao
The application of TME/TMA terminology stops making sense once you take intersectionality into account. Dark-skinned women, particularly dark-skinned black women, are victims of masculinization and often experience this because the concepts of womanhood and femininity (at least in western societies) are almost always measured by eurocentric standards, colorism, and a general proximity to whiteness. Violent transmisogynists shoot first, ask questions never.
Michelle Dionne Peacock was a 59-year-old black woman who, by our communitiesâ definition, wouldâve been transmisogyny-exempt on account of being a cisgender woman. However, she was killed on account of Tommy Wayne Earlâs misogynoir AND transmisogyny, even going so far as to refer to her as a âmale acting like a womanâ when questioned on the murder. Earl had no grounds for his accusations apart from Peacockâs appearance which, last time I checked, doesnât indicate anything save her blackness. Considering Earl also had to be separated from black inmates due to ânot getting along with themâ, I think itâs warranted to assume his transmisogynistic motive is equally rooted in misogynoirist behaviors/mindsets that masculinize black women. In other words: heâs just as much of a violent racist as he is a violent transmisogynist, and whether or not Peacock was actually a transgender woman meant nothing to him. Only his ideology mattered, therefore that was the only âtruthâ he recognized. Most transphobes are like this.
Caster Semenya and her battle against the International Olympic Committeeâs intersexist, transmisogynistic policies is another case I think of, though thankfully it isnât a fatal one. In 2019, World Athletics (formerly the IAAF) introduced new regulations that forced intersex athletes and other athletes with DSDs like Semenya to take medication that would suppress their testosterone levels. Semenya refused, as was her right to. Ever since, she has been pursuing legal action against these regulations. In tandem with her legal battles, transmisogynoirist and intersexist cultural wars were sparked because of the barring of Caster Semenya. Her being a cis woman in actuality did not stop these culture wars from happening. People only cared about the narratives being fed to them, and again, most transphobes are like this.
Semenya is not the first nor the last cis black woman in the sports industry to be subjected to this treatment. Far from it. Serena Williams is infamously made a target by misogynoirist sports reporters and commentators whose actions against her often skew into transmisogynist territories as well (see: Mark Knightâs political cartoon for The Herald Sun from September 2018). In that same year, Williams addressed internet conspiracies around her having been âborn a manâ as well.
Even Michelle Obama has been subjected to transmisogynoirist harassment from American right-wingers who repeatedly make conspiracies and accusations of her âsecretly being a manâ. Quite recently, UFC fighter Josh Hokit peddled this exact rhetoric on the South Lawn of the White House. Emboldened by the likes of Joe Rogan and in the shadow of the Trump Administration, no doubt.
On a less public level, I was shared a video by a black co-worker that applies to this; said video was of a black woman being harassed in a womenâs restroom. As sheâs filming, an older white woman comes around the corner and insists that she is in the womenâs restroom, implying that the woman recording shouldnât be there. She tries to ignore the old lady at first, but ultimately (and rightfully) tells her to leave her alone. Only for that same woman to claim sheâs âmeanâ for doing so, as if she didnât spend most of her time harassing this woman.
Admittedly, I used to sympathize with peopleâs reasons for using TME/TMA terminology in communal spaces. I felt obligated to use it since it was the least I could do for my peers. In retrospect, this terminology is flawed. People regard it as another version for AGAB terminology (which cannot be stressed enough that it was appropriated from intersex spaces in the first place), but itâs deeper than that.
I am not a woman, but your average person is going to assume I am a black woman. They have the potential to exercise the same violent misogynoirist, or even transmisogynoirist, mindset against me as Tommy Wayne Earl had against Michelle Dionne Peacock. My experiences arenât like that of an actual black trans woman, nor was it for Michelle, but that doesnât change the fact that our societies donât care about distinction. Our societies can and will operate on its own optics regardless of who we are, and once they perceive us one way, they arenât going to stop and check if thatâs actually true or applies to their beliefs. If American white supremacists can still peddle âMichelle Obama is a man!â conspiracies in 2026 and with confidence, what makes you think our societies as a whole will suddenly start caring about who does or doesnât apply to their systems of oppression?
Not only does this terminology overlook the nuances of sex and how it is experienced among people, but it also overlooks nuances like the racialization of gender and sex, especially when those nuances CAN and HAVE led to the discrimination of people like Michelle Dionne Peacock, Caster Semenya, Serena Williams, Michelle Obama, that woman getting dressed, and many, many more.
You cannot separate these cases of racist, misogynoirist discrimination and violence from the transmisogynistic rhetoric therein. You simply canât. Itâs all connected. The notion that any of these women are men relies on our societiesâ fearmongering around black people and transgender people alike as well as how they dehumanize us. Worst of all, we see the fallout of that constantly in our communities, seeing how black trans peopleâ especially black trans womenâ hold the highest statistics of being hate-crimed out of any other transgender demographic.
The more I looked into these cases, the more I stopped referring to myself as âTMEâ. If we can acknowledge that transphobia is capable of affecting cisgender people, then how is it any different from acknowledging that our societiesâ weaponization of gender and sex canât be binarized by something like TME or TMA? Cisgender black womenâ be them perisex or intersexâ most certainly are affected by transmisogyny, given the many ways misogynoirist and transmisogynistic ideologies intersect. Those circumstances alone show why TME/TMA distinctions ARE arbitrary.

Asked the cat today if she's a person who lives on the floor before having the realization that she's no more of a person who lives on the floor than I am she's just shorter than me. She doesn't perceive herself as a floor person any more than I do we are both people who walk on the same floor.... she just happens to be small.
