Just realized that, if you go back to episode 1 where the band is getting their photos taken by the paparazzi for the hotel opening, the background says:
Because Estherâs gone now, and unless thereâs some sort of rule involving witches and their familiars preventing him otherwise, Iâm assuming heâs free to go anywhere he wants.
I like to imagine that Monty keeps flying and flying and flying until he ends up in a certain someoneâs realm (donât ask me the logic behind that there is none) and meets another supernatural bird whoâd also spent some time as a human once.
Matthew is very happy to have another corvid friend.
Dream, on the other hand, is less than amused to have two birds following him around now.
So right before this drama aired, my friend said to me that she was getting Our Beloved Summer vibes from the trailer, you know, sort of that whole nostalgia//yellow-filter vibe.
It got me thinking about these dramas and the seasons. Even though 19th life takes place in spring story-wise, I think both dramas have a summer feel, just in different ways.
OBS has a more nostalgic feel to it. I thought 19th Life would be like that too considering Ji-eunâs past lives play an important role, but while OBS seems to portray summer -- their beloved summer of the past when they were kids -- as full of happy memories to look back on, 19th Life focuses on the summer of the present, one that is more focused on grief.
Iâm very glad that the drama is airing in the summer at the very least though. Itâs very fitting thematically.
Summer is a perfect setting to explore grief. Grief is lingering and a distortion of time. It may fade as the years go by and you can find yourself being happy again, but it never fully goes away and it affects our perception of time similar to how summer can be sunny and joyful, but there are also days that are slow and unending while summer nights often feel like liminal spaces where time doesnât exist. This is even more perfect considering how living must feel so long for Ji-eun who has lived nearly 2 dozen lives so far. Grief is suffocating. Especially in the early days, it feels like thereâs a hole in your chest similar to how summer heat can make the air feel heavy and the humidity can make you feel uncomfortable.
Summer is both a beautiful season but also a harsh one weather wise meanwhile grief is beautiful and painful at the same time because what better way to describe grief than love persevering?
Nevermind that I already read around half of this webtoon before it aired (I stopped so I could read it all at once but then I waited too long and then fastpass happened). This drama/webtoon is beautifully filmed and more importantly this is just too good of a story that already knowing what happens doesnât make it boring or a chore to get through the drama at all.

Watching King the Land and I hope that once Gu won and Sa-rang make it official Gu won becomes a complete DORK for her.
Like, we already see him trying to play it cool, like for example, the texting scene where heâs like, Iâm busy after work, or when he sees her while sheâs working and heâs like I can spare some of my precious time for you.
We can already see that this whole pretense thing kinda backfires on him and itâs kinda typical of ml (especially in powerful positions) to be kinda prideful, so I just want him to figure that this ainât working and be so happy with his relationship that he drops all of this pretense, humbles himself before her and just be a complete dork in love.
Also, after Sa-rangâs previous relationship with that jerk who never put in the time or effort for Sa-rang we need someone (cough, cough Gu won) to reciprocate how hard she tries for her relationships and to cherish and appreciate her just as equally as she does for her partner (or even more)
I know thereâs probably like a little crawl space and hole that Grogu uses to get from his seat to Dinâs pilot seat, but I canât help but imagine a similar set up to those small cars where you have to push forward the front seat to get out, and Grogu is just using the force to fold Dinâs seat, and subsequently Din, in half before he crawls out to sit in his dadâs lap.
This episode literally made me teary eyed because it was so, so relatable.
Children grow up hearing that they need to do well in school to have a good future, and that makes sense. Itâs an understandable argument. Money may not buy happiness, but it can certainly help enable it. Education is an amazing opportunity that not everyone gets to have unfortunately, but itâs costly too, in every sense of the word.
Growing up, constantly being told that your future is dependent on the decisions you make as a child can be very stressing, and a lot of parents place a lot of expectations on their kids to succeed. I think it can be even harder when you come from an immigrant family because youâre constantly being told by your parents that they suffered through so much to give you these opportunities. I was literally told this the day before this episode aired, and while I am grateful for my parentsâ sacrifice, it places a heavy, extra burden on children to make sure their parentsâ sacrifices werenât in vain by doing well in school. Itâs true that I donât have the same burdens as my parents did, but I always hated that while they realized how fortunate I was, they never seemed to realize that I had burdens too, just different ones.
Education/the school system, while better, is not perfect. Itâs competitive and can be detrimental to physical and mental health, and I am so happy that todayâs episode explored the burdens of the school system when I wasnât expecting it too, because youâre always told to be grateful for what you have, even if itâs not perfect.
However, I argue that thatâs the beautiful thing about EAW. It explores topics and characters who society is not always so accepting or kind towards in a manner that brings the subtle unfairness and prejudice that permeates through society into light, such as obvious cases, like characters who are lgbtq+ or with disabilities, and not so obvious ones, such as small town residents against large corporations or, in todayâs episode, children in the education system.
It was absolutely heartbreaking to see those little kids from todayâs episode. The scenes where the kids stormed the convenience store, rushed and hungry, juxtaposed against the scenes with the kids having fun are obviously meant to make you feel sympathetic towards students, but what really hurt me, was that those scenes didnât feel exaggerated to gain sympathy, simple scenes like that are reality.
Education can give you a lot, but it can take away a lot too, including parts of your childhood. Even then, education does not guarantee success or happiness.
Take Yeong-u. She graduated top of her class from SNU. Given that alone, you would assume she would be successful, but she wasnât. Not entirely. She couldnât get a job in law for months, and maybe wouldnât be able to if not for the Hanbada CEOâs likely ulterior motives.
From last weekâs preview, I wasnât sure if I would like this episode as much as previous ones, yet it quickly became one of my favorites, just as this show has. Â

I love, love, love the relationship between Woo Yeong-u and Lee Jun-ho today and how Woo Yeong-u tried to express herself using actions considered typical of a male lead. It wasnât something I was expecting but given how EAW constantly tackles societal expectations, I really found it enjoyable and refreshing.
For some reason, My Liberation Notes kind of reminds me of Hospital Playlist. Theyâre so different in terms of plot and vibes, but I think theyâre almost like two sides of the same coin.
Both have a sort of slice of life aspect, where characters deal with their day to day lives. Hospital Playlist takes it more lightheartedly where you know everything will always work out in the end, and where joy is found in the little everyday moments. The characters all have their own issues, and while they often work it out on their own, all the character relationships are so interconnected and theyâre all supporting each other. Meanwhile, My Liberation Notes is a lot more melancholic, where the characters try to cope with the monotonous workings of everyday life. The characters arenât all loners, and they have some form of support, but itâs much more limited. The characters each have their own path, which is seen especially with the Liberation Club, who come together but still have individual issues. I thought this was shown really nicely in a symbolic way when they were at the coffee shop, sitting next to each other, but shown with the architecture separating them. I should point out though the that only exception to this idea would be Mi Jeong and Gu who interact a lot and seemingly will support each other a lot in the future, but it runs true for the rest of her relationships and for the rest of the characters so far.
To sum up, Hospital Playlist is a story about a group of friends. My Liberation Notes is about mainly 3 individuals who are related put into one story. Or in other words, I see Hospital Playlist being about a journey of life with friends and My Liberation Notes being a about having a solitary journey while being surrounded by others, if that makes sense.
But what I love about both is that they are both valid interpretations of life. Each show leans heavily into their own style, but I find life is a combination of both perspectives. Life is about the happy and sad moments. It is about the moments we face together with others and it is about the moments we face alone. Both shows are so comforting in their own ways, and I really hope My Liberation Notes keeps up with what itâs doing.
Ok, so my analysis might be a bit out there this time, but ngl, in the beginning of the episode 11 when Choi-ung was talking about the puppy, jjong jjong, I thought the puppy was referring to Yeon-su at first. Of course, it was later revealed seconds later that he was referring to himself, and while I think there is a more prevelant connection between Choi-ung and the puppy, I think an argument could be made for a connection between Yeon-su and the puppy.
I think it's more than coincidental that last episode, it was revealed that Yeon-suâs nickname given to her by her grandma is âpuppyâ. In addition, someone on tumblr (link below) noted that in episode 2, the camera heavily focuses on a toy puppy that Mr. Jang holds up while heâs with Yeon-su. The use of a puppy has appeared three times in the story so far, two times relating to Yeon-su, and one time relating to Choi-ung. In other words, 2 > 1 or Yeon-su > Choi-ung. Yeon-su, in our minds, has a stronger connection to the word âpuppyâ, despite that Choi-ung uses it to refer to himself. I think this might be an intentional move from the writers.
i don't know if we'll ever see mr. jang again but i've seen nobody point out how weird it was that he he picked up this wooden dog in ep 2 a
Similar to the puppy, Choi-Ung was also abandoned, and he was hurt by it. Yeon-su was the abandoner in one case, but Iâd argue that she abandons to avoid being hurt (not that it excuses her actions). Theyâre like two sides of the same coin.
You could also say that Yeon-su, in her own way is an abandoned puppy. Abandonement brings up a connotation of being alone, isolated, left behind. We donât fully know Yeon-suâs story. We donât know what happened to her parents, why she lives with her grandma, but we do know this: we know that Yeon-su has always been alone ever since she was in school, isolating herself due to her poverty. In the present, she has only a few friends (read: one (not including Choi-ung). We also know that her grandma is old. Her grandma isnât going to be there forever, and Yeon-su will be left alone, left behind.
I think they used the puppy to show the connection between Yeon-su and Choi-ung. The two characters are basically considered opposites at first glance, but time and time again weâve seen that theyâre actually pretty similar if you take a closer look. In addition, the puppy was able to grow and change, similar to how Yeon-su and Choi-Ung are developing their relationship. The use of the puppy just further cements their similarities.
Iâm curious whether the use of a puppy will be used again, but weâll have to wait see.
Disclaimer: these are just my opinions, thoughts, and attempted, emphasis on attempted, analyses on the subject. Who knows if what I concocted at 3am, fueled by coffee and self loathing, actually has any substance or makes sense.
You know what I like about Our Beloved Summer? Itâs that it takes place after the âThe Endâ
Like, in most dramas (and stories), itâs about the main coupleâs relationship developing for the first time. They meet, get to know each other, go through hurtles, and then when the end up together, thatâs about the end, or near the end, of the story. Weâll often get a view of their early relationship as sort of an epilogue, but we never get what comes after.
A relationship is more than just coming together. Learning to be with someone is a story and struggle in itself. You have to learn how to communicate, let someone in, etc. etc. itâs not easy, point being, and not every couple stays together as most happy endings in media suggest.
