Was Monty actually in love with Edwin or was he just told he was?
Before I continue, I want to clarify that this isn't an attack on any ships!! This is just an observation.
One of the critiques I have with the show is how they fumbled and ignored monty's character until they needed some drama between Edwin and Charles. Monty's crush on Edwin being a good example
I also have opinions about Monty being revealed as a traitor and how I think that should have gone, but that's a different post for later...
Anyways, the bits we get from the show paints a pretty bleak existence for Monty:
Monty was a crow his whole life and then gets violently thrown into human sentience and teenage puberty, I doubt that mental change was pleasant let alone the physical one
Crows are very smart, but the difference between a crow and a human is still pretty big
He gets a couple of days at best to cope with this new body and mind before Esther sends him off to seduce Edwin
I kinda doubt he came up with that plan himself, I think Esther told him to do that
Gets rejected by one of the only people who were nice to him, outed as a traitor, and violently turned back into a bird in the last few days of his incredible short time as a human
And then he's put back in a cage! I don’t think we find out what happens to him after Esther dies. The fact that he's turned into a human for a week and is turned back into a crow is some eldritch level of fucked up
I feel like way more could have been done with his character if the show had more time. He could have even joined their little group. Maybe he could have had enough time to figure out if he actually had those feelings for Edwin or not.
