ballad of songbirds and snakes spoilers
i have a theory that i’m sure many of you share. i think katniss is related to one of the members of the covey through her father, most possibly maude ivory. some friends and i have worked thoroughly to collect some evidence, and this is what we have stumbled upon!
katniss’ father knew how to sing, and pretty nicely. his voice was described as beautiful, so beautiful even the mockingjays stopped to listen. that’s one of the reasons katniss’ mother fell in love with him, and katniss herself inherited his talent for singing.
katniss’ father loved mockingjays, and she did too—she became the mockingjay herself.
katniss’ father knew a lot of songs: not only the hanging tree, which was forbidden, or deep in the meadow—which became a famous lullaby, but a lot more. maude ivory, who could learn a song in one hearing, probably passed down these songs. the covey couldn’t perform anymore, and even though the district knew deep in the meadow, and some other people the hanging tree, i’m not sure other lucy gray songs were famous. but katniss’ father knew a lot of songs somehow.
in fact, katniss and mr. everdeen wrote their own songs too! a family talent, maybe?
also, katniss was said to be able to learn a song in one or two hearings when she was younger— just like maude ivory. this is just too coincidential.
mr. everdeen knew of the lake, the same lake the covey, snow and sejanus spent time in, with the same house. said lake was very deep into the woods, not many people could have known about it. her father told katniss that he had found it while hunting—but he could easily have lied. if only the covey knew about this lake, then why did katniss’ father know about it too? also, after all of the districts were fenced, no one dared to go that deep into the woods except him, i’m sure of it.
the everdeen family house was at the edge of the seam, next to the meadow, the same location of the covey house.
also, there’s the physical resemblance: the brown hair, for example.
mr. everdeen named her daughter katniss—a plant that existed in the lake. moreover, the only location that we’ve been able to see the katnisses in is the lake.
