Reference sheet for my Stardew Valley character from the modded session I’m playing with my friend
not quite a fairy, not quite a ghost…
Many years ago, when the player character’s grandfather was living in Pelican Town, he and his first love were secretly expecting a child before they were married. However, there were some complications.
The child was stillborn, and the mother died giving birth. His lover was laid to rest in the town cemetery. The child, conceived out of wedlock, was instead buried under a tree stump on his farm. This is what prompted him to leave Pelican Town for the rest of his life. He found love again, had a child, and eventually a grandchild, to whom he gifted the deed to his farm. As years passed on the empty farm, the tree stump sat surrounded by a ring of toadstools. Unbeknownst to the child’s grandfather, the final resting place of his first born had been in the center of a fairy ring where a towering Mystic Tree once grew. What little power was left in that hallowed place was barely enough for one final bit of magic: A life for a life. A first born unwittingly offered up.
Decades later, the stump grew a sprout. Decades more, and the sprout became a sapling. With leaves enough to sustain itself on sunlight, the magic tree offered thanks for its second chance. A life for a life. The child unborn woke up for the first time under the rosy light of dawn. The years went by, and the child was raised by the elements themselves. Until, upon reaching maturity, the tree spirit’s next of kin arrived to inherit the farm.
