Some images from the Great Oregon Steam-Up 2022. Easily the greatest exhibition of antique tractors and industrial equipment in the US. Its a bit short on my favorite things, but worth the trip regardless.

NYC's version of a transcon, and of course PRR had the Penn-Texas. Impressive to think that NYC and PRR both had passenger trains reaching all the way into the far west Midwest, but it's important to note that all the Missouri mileage was on a terminal railroad.
Current reading and highly recommended. Among the many fun facts you'll learn: Leland Stanford was elected governor of CA on a populist anti-Chinese campaign. These very immigrants built the railroad he was president of, and that made him a millionaire many times over. Plus ca change, as they say...

I don't link to RP much because I would rather get out there and do the work myself, and its better for my health to do so. Aside from that, a lot of these photographers' work can be found on glossy pages in bookstores, and you can go there and show your support if you like them that much. Once in a blue moon, however, something on there really grabs my eye. It is 2 years early for me to exist when this photo was taken, but as far as I'm concerned, this could be a self-portrait of my soul. Thanks Mr. Walker!

Latest Passenger Cars for Amtrak
I was caught off guard a couple of weeks ago when I saw these new passenger cars go by—of the Venture series—built by Siemens.
The train is number 355, a Chicago-bound Wolverine, and it was photographed in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It has just crossed the Kalamazoo River and will soon make its station stop right downtown at the wonderful station built for the Michigan Central.

Here's southbound Amtrak Cascades #503 knocking down the signal at Coalca, OR. Today's weather is great for Oregon railfanning- its not raining, but it is cloudy enough to keep the temperature nice and cool. My shot focused on the tail end of the train, since I find the Talgo VI cab car to be so butt-ugly. Just in time for my birthday in this September, you will once again be able to take a Cascades all the way to Vancouver, BC!
