*His bushy brows furrowed. One inched upwards, as if silently judging her. In a stiffened, calm matter, he flicked his wrist, slamming the literary treasure closed with a firm click.

"Nothing that concerns you..." He paused, looking her up and down. "And you're..." He blinked, fixing his glasses. Was he looking at this correctly?

His eyes squinted. "Different." He remarked before huffing.

"Greattt... Not only am I stuck in a horrendous atmosphere..."

"AWFUL stench, dreadful organization, pathetic little whiners - I am stuck in here with a horned-pest!"

"heyy that's not nice :( I'll have you know I'm not a pest! I'm a monster with a family I'm trying to get back to, I'm stuck in here same as you so how about we try and stick together?"

*she says as she sticks her hand though the bars of the cage*

"so what do you say?"

*she looks at him with a genuine smile. As the people come to drag her back to her cells handling her rather harshly, graping her, leaving marks, even hitting her even when she didn't do anything*

"all right all right, bitches I'm going assholes"

*She says as she gets dragged to her cells*

*Sirius's observations resembled a combination of both astonished, and absolute disgust at the outstretched hand.

"I-I... what... I... do I say? I beg your pardon!"

Immediately, he crossed his arms. "I will NOT touch a beast like you or anyone else for that matter. Ugh, imagine the..." I shivered at the mere thought of contamination.

"Germs... You don't know how many people I've dealt with that have-" His sentence drifted off as she got brutally snatched.

He blinked, mouth-dropped open, only for a moment before he turned his back on her, mumbling to himself.

"Damn cell... damn people, damn this! I'm supposed to be studying." He fixed his glasses for the hundrenth time.

"To perfection... to... to... intelligence!" But... He couldn't help but wonder about that strange, strange creature.

Perhaps some scientific notions as well...*

(she sits in her cell, covered in bruises and bandages, good thing she has bandages and knows how to tie them, she looks down at her book, it's a memory book of her family*

"I can't wait until I see them again"

*she says with a tired smile*

"I miss them so much"

*she starts crying silently, she hasn't seen them in years but last time she saw them they were being taken*

"I hope y'all are ok"

*she says through silent sobs*

*Any distant sobbing or whimpers - he remained unanimated to respond. His rigid composure straightened as he reread his notes.

Well...

If his assumptions were correct, that means his analyzations about this circus was that they were not human. Added by that monstrous girl...

Quickly, he wrote that down.

Ah, perfect...

He had an idea sketched out. This place wasn't entertainment.

No... It was something much, much more. His focus barely left him with any idea of the time. As it passed, so did his last ounces of sanity. Would anyone believe such a magnificent study such as this?

Anyway... it was break time. Yet, that girl echoed in his mind, making him grimance.

Reluctantly, he glanced at that mysterious girl. His pride denied him to speak first - though, a sense of inquisitiveness shattered that intensity.

He rolled his eyes, his voice as smooth as his words. "You. Morbid beast, tell me - when she bleeds, does it have a different coloration? No, no! Wait!" Excitement burned in his brown vision.

"Why are you trapped? Are you just as mad as these creatures here?" He held back a gag. Monsters were always described as scary... Was she like that too?

She looks up realizing he's looking at her*

'shit shit shit! Suck it up! Stop acting like this!!'

*she thinks as she wipes the tears away, and hiding her memory book, not wanting to look weak*

"u-um yea! I bleed a different color, I bleed orange-ish pink!"

*she returns to her smug self acting like nothing happened*

"I got kidnapped I didn't come here with my own free will and I'm not mad I'm just.... Guilty if you will"

*she shrugs eyes still red from crying, but still looking smug*

"say... What color do you bleed? If you're a human that is"

*she says trying to take the attention off of her*

*He contemplated her like an unknown vessel.

A vessel that practically screamed for affirmation - or scientific knowledge. Interesting... her carmine in fact, isn't carmine.

His analytical sheens squinted momentarily.

"Telling life stories now?"

He rolled his eyes. "Oh, please. At least YOU didn't get kidnapped during a perfect, PERFECT coffee break earlier."

He scanned her face, evidence of her sobbing session. His gaze softened, though, only for a second - immediately hardening at her question.

With offense, he huffed. "If I'm human?" He fixed the most minor wrinkle on his jacket.

Raising his chin, he continued. "Of course I am a human. What do I look like to you? The mere OPPOSITE? I beg your pardon!"

"Hmph... If I'm human that is..."

Still.. something in his eyes made him internally conflicted. He barely met her eyes as he whispered.

"Do you... even know a way out?"

"oh please, don't be so offended if anything I should be offended you know it's rude to ask someone what color they bleed just because they're not a human"

*she turns her head to face the wall, shes so glad that they let her decorate her walls the walls are filled with pictures of her family, her siblings, but there're no pictures of a male that could be her dad, tears form in her eyes again looking at the pictures*

"at least you didn't see your father kill your mom and brother''

*she says quietly, sure that he couldn't hear her, but shes sure he did, after that she returns to her smug self*

"anyways, as a matter of fact I do know a way out, I've been here for years! I know my way around"

*she says as she pulls out a key*

"But you didn't want an ally so...."

*she hides the key again as a guard comes by*

"shut up you two, its curfew"

*she lays down going to sleep*

*This... this morbid little... little THING! Insulting HIM like that? Sirius had plenty of statements that would flow like a harsh current.

He yearned to just walk up to her and snatch those horns off. If possible... but, presumably not since he remembered biology.

It would be impossible to vanquish them bare-handed.

Her sudden trauma dropping made his thoughts fade. He exhaled, how... he retreated to the corner.

Irritating... Absolutely...

He hugged his knees.

Irritating.

Perfectionism is all he ever understood. How can one trust so easily without being brutally stabbed in the back?

He might as well accept his fate here.

He shut his eyes.

Not like anyone would save him anyway. He knew he was unlikeable and completely hot-headed.

Who would even try to help?

*in the morning around 3:30AM she gets up and unlocks her cage ready to get the hell out of here then she thinks and looks at him, he doesn't deserve to be here, should she help him? Despite everything she unlocks his cage quietly takes all of his stuff puts it in her bag and grabs him and runs. He's surprisingly light and she can run pretty fast holding him soon enough the guards catch up and they are near the doors and she throws him out and shouts*

"RUN"

*while she throws her bag with him out the door sacrificing herself to save him before the door shuts she can grab one of her photos of her family, her and her sister and brother the rest outside with him what will he do with them? She will never know but at least she could save one of her friends....*

*At first, Sirius recoiled from the sudden, unsuspecting touch. His mouth opened to protest, only turning into a thin-shocked line as he was carried outdoors.

Fumbling with the supplies she gave him, he gasped - absolutely mortified and perplexed.

Quickly, he scrambled out of the event. Luckily, he found somewhere to hide temporarily.

He examined the bag she gave him. Attentively, his fingertips grazed the zipped item. He carefully unlocked it.

Scientific inquisitiveness got the better out of him. He looked at the photos she gave him...

His eyes widened slightly.

They were... they - they... resembled her. He clutched the illustrations tighter. With a sigh, he got up, returning to his residency. He organized his things, preparing a plan for tomorrow.

Maybe he could save her somehow... maybe. She did save him from that imprisonment. But... There was one thing in his mind.

Why in the world would a beast save a human?

Were all the perfect tales a lie?

*after that little incident she had gotten no food for a week and was a punishment, an hour after she was covered in cuts, deep cuts, and bruises, they even chipped one of her horns*

"blasted motherfuckers"

*she whispers, this torment is so unfair, she feels scared as she thinks about him,,,, did they find him!? Is he hurt!?*

*she gets stopped by a guard dragging her out of her cell for more punishment, she gets dragged to a room full of knives and sharp stuff, what will they do? One of the guards ties her to the chair and another grabs the sharpest knife*

"so you've been misbehaving I see..."

The guard says, as he takes the knife and starts cutting down her legs she screams, that hurts! The other guard covers her mouth*

"if you scream you'll only make it worse..."

*she starts sobbing it hurts bad, as the guard starts pushing the blade deeper her legs being coated in orange-pink blood, but it was worth it for him... She's been through worse she knows it but it hurts so bad that's a lot of blood, she's not human so she doesn't pass out from the pain or die from blood loss so she has to sit through it all until they're done and throw her into her cell, blood splattered everywhere. They didn't bother to fix her up. She grabbed a knife before she got dragged back*

'i deserve this... I've always had'

*She thinks as she starts to cut her wrist more blood spews out, good that she has long sleeves. she lays in her own blood, staining her long pale hair, good thing she showers in the morning, they always make them shower after this to make it sting worse,, it was worth it for Him... She saw her brother after all... At least in this life she could save him...*

🐺- (I'm a monster 💀)

*The week remained as a burdensome sentiment.

And... honestly, the most exhausting seven-periods of Sirius's entire life. Well, overthinking wise.

Overtime, he memorized the patterns of the incoming patrols, and started to quietly build a tunnel.

His entire frame practically screamed for comfort - for resting - but, he used all his strength, all of his might to create a perfect escape.

Although, he did mentally curse at the physical grime that desperately clung to his jacket's now mudded edges. Completed with this ultimate task, he exhaled - finally.

During a gracious full moon when tranquility was evident, he slithered into the makeshift exit. Carefully, Sirius utilized his shovel's end, creating an opening to the wooden surface. He popped his head out, doing a shushing gesture to Brighella while looking around fearfully.

Damnit

DAMNIT.

What was he doing?

Saving a monster? One that could easily tear into his flesh and shatter his fragile, and beautiful bones?

But... she did save him. His honor and questions gave him no choice.

*she looks at him covered in mud and rock. She runs over still covered in blood and a gaping wound on her leg with bandages and bruises all over*

"what the fuck are you doing here?! Go before someone sees you!"

🐺- (AGAIN TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️)

*she whispers as she covers him up with her jacket exposing her wrists as the guards come in to give her a shot*

"what are you doing this time? I don't care but if you try to escape again it's gonna be ten times worse"

*He says as he stabs her with the needle in her neck and takes the knife he has and cuts her other leg open*

"behave"

*he says as he leaves, she crawls over to Sirius*

"you need to leave if they find you they'll take you again! And I can't let that happen!"

*she tries to push him away but as the shot kicks in she passes out next to him, what's gonna happen to them!?*

"I-I... recusing a beast! Isn't that obvi-" His words cut off at the threatening individual.

His silence spoke volumes, and his throat throbbed with an unfamiliar soreness. He quivered mildly at the sudden injection. His mind overflowed with possibilities, and random consequences.

What would he do?

Will he get captured too?

He should leave.

Sirius reached out when the coast was clear.

He. Should. leave.

Sirius enveloped her in his arms, quickly dragging her inside the crafted get away. He used his intellect to refuge from any patrols, having recognized their potential and routes.

Slightly, he stumbled while holding the currently paralyzed female.

When safety was reached, he put her on his couch with a scoff.

Ow.

He gathered the suitable, and required supplies. He fixed his glasses, squinting his eyes as he began to clean her wounds.

*she wakes up an hour later covered in bandages and in a random place, where was she? How did this happen? Was Sirius ok? She jumps up and instantly feels the pain in her legs*

"FUCK THAT HURTS! Where am I?"

*she looks around and sees she's in a house*

'i need to get out of here and find Sirius!'

*she thinks as she starts to limp around trying to find him, only to see him nowhere*

"fuck did they get him!?"

*she thinks aloud as she starts to overthink and hyperventilate*

"fuck fuck fuck it's all my fault! I should have saved him! I failed again! Father was as right, I'm a failure and should be dead! I couldn't save my brother and now I couldn't save Sirius! FUCK!"

*she punches the wall making her hand bleed, she feels so bad, why can't she do anything right in her life!?*

The eerieness was all that remained. Only the weak aroma of his expensive cologne.

When he arrived into his sanctuary, he widened his eyes, almost dropping his purchased caffeine.

His eyebags glinted underneath the light, and his clothes were neat as always, only a bit ruffled due to stress.

Highlighting the details, he groaned. "Did you really have to ruin my walls?" He slammed his coffee on the counter.

"Damn monster... Damn place. What will I say to my landlord about this?"

"That some... some... some HORRID cockaroach BANGED a hole in MY wall?" He mumbled curses.

"Sit down. I don't want you ruining my floors either."

*she jumps at the loud noise, and immediately stands up and sits down*

"sorry..."

*she whispers scared to make him anymore angry she knows or thinks what happens when a male figure gets angry she sits and listens to him like she did when she was child to her 'father' she will be quiet unless spoken to and will not touch anything unless told to, age didn't matter in her household, authority did. she not dared talk back or look him in the eyes or something bad would happen, or she thought. she listened and will listen obediently. She sits and waits to be told what to do again not looking him in his eyes*

*The unexplainable, and honestly... absolutely horrifying situation. He blinked, hardly even sparing her the longest glance.

Snatching off his glasses, he speculated his blurred surroundings, massaging his nose's temple. Finally, he relocated his gwakers.*

"Get up! I-I..." A crimson hue stirred on my face from embarrassment.

"Do not kneel. That's... that's utterly..." He looked her up and down, rolling his eyes. "Pathetic."

"Extremely stupid and...and..." He stopped talking, sighing. "About those pictures..." He walked closer, reaching out to change her bandages. But, he stopped, silently asking for permission before he continued.

*she gets humiliated at the name calling but doesn't say anything. When she sees him reaching down she flinches then realizes he's just trying to change her bandages*

"what about the pictures? Did something happen-"

*she stops herself. Not a lot of talking aloud she reminds herself she lets that question hang in the air and waits for a response as she winces at the pain in her legs as he changes them. But absolutely refuses to move because she knows what happens when she moves... So she stays absolutely still not moving an inch.*

*In a semi gentleness, his hands roughly entangled the bandages, stumbling a bit due to his inexperience with the medical arts.

He only read books, and followed a firm tutorial.

Gathering his patience, he implanted a cleaner bandage. A sigh exited his lips, and he pridefully examined his work before stepping back.*

"No... if something DID happen," He tapped his chin.

"I would've been the cause. Initially, I had the intent to burn them... though... a crisp would do nothing. You see..."

"Uhm." He clasped his hands together, sitting down and crossing his legs. Clearing his throat, he smirked.

"I want to know ALL about these..." He paused, getting his notebook. "Ah! There we go." He sucked his teeth.

"Where were we?"

"Ah! Yes, okay, so... Erm, about these pictures. Tell me about them. In my defense, I DID save you."

*well yea he did save her, but she saved him, but she doesn't back talk*

"well, they're of my family, *she points at the pictures* my yongest brother Liam, my younger sister Lizzy, and my mom Gabby."

*she doesn't dare talk about her dad*

"I was the only monster in my family so I was treated... Differently expected for liam and Lizzy, they loved my horns and climbed on them constantly, it doesn't hurt much and I carried them around everywhere on my horns they loved it!"

*her eyes lit up talking about her siblings, like they had stars in them*

"my mom didn't mind much as long as didn't drop them"

*she could talk for hours about her siblings, but she realized she was talking too much and the light in her eyes disappeared*

"but yea that's them..."

*Sirius ultimately cringed, almost losing his composure at the sentimental parts of the communication.

But, his eyes became tender when he listened more carefully. He tapped his foot, a nervous habit of his.*

"So..." He held back his words, taking a breath. "... I, uhm..." He swallowed, absolutely lost on words. Of course, this ongoing situation was too, too heartwarming.

He squeezed his speculators shut, combating with it to reply.

"I... I don't mind if you... spoke more." He shyly fumbled with his pen.

He really was curious, and felt a childish admiration for her.

"You're... you're like folklore!" His gaze lit up. "Like... like it's so... so infesting. To know that a creature is here in MY home."

"MY home!"

"I mean, like. You're so cool, different, and- and!-" He almost leaped out of his chair, clearing his throat when he noticed he lost control.

"Uhm... anyway, please continue."

He waited like an impatient child.

*the light in her eyes slowly appeared again, she was so excited to talk about her siblings more!*

"my mom used my horns from time to time but only if she really needed to, if she was caring for Lizzy and Liam she would ask me to carry the grocery bags on my horns while she had them. and sometimes they would even get into a bag and make me put the bag on my horns and carry them around like that. And they always made forts but I was too big for it because of my horns so they made Mom go and get a taller chair just so I could lay in the fort."

*she sat there for an hour talking about her siblings and how crazy they were and how mom was having to deal with all of that, but she never once talks about her dad or any male figure besides her brother*

"they were a bunch of crazies"

*she giggles at all the memories coming back*

*Surprisingly... Sirius remained utterly calm.

No remarks or sassiness stirred from my mouth. Only occasional gasps and laughter he failed to hide.*

"Wow... they..." He grinned, lost for words. He blinked, regathering his breath. "They sound so wonderful."

He stared at her for a moment.

"What's your name?"

He points to himself. "I am Sirius Kevin Black!" He announced pridefully, rearranging his tilted tie with flourish.

He expectantly looked at her.

*she giggles more*

"they were very wonderful!"

*she stares at him when he asks for her name*

"name? Oh you mean my circus role! I was called the Brightella! But occasionally my 'father' would call me Malice for some reason... I don't know why"

*she looks at him genuinely confused on what a name is, she was just called by her circus role*

*His well-thoughted mindset observed her like a box full of knowledge.

Already, he understood the lost fragments in her mind.

He stood up, smirking widely with a scoff. "Well, duh. That is EXACTLY what I asked. Not a stupid circus name."

He gave her a judgmental glance.

"You're way more dumber than I thought, hmph." He couldn't help but remark sarcastically before respiring.

"I will call you..." He hummed briefly, clicking his tongue.

"Something that means beautiful... mmm..." His eyes lit up.

"Yes! I know," He snapped his fingers.

"Mei."

"that sounds like a really cool name! Although... Didn't the other day you say you didn't like my horns and that they were ugly? So why would you give me a name that means beautiful? I've only been called beautiful once and that was my siblings"

*she didn't know how to react to being called beautiful. Everyone in her town called her 'evil' or 'disgrace'*

"I've only been called 'Evil' or 'Disgrace' i've never been called beautiful by a different person before..."

*she looks at the time*

"shouldn't we be going to bed? It's around midnight"

*Sirius rolled his eyes once more, clicking his tongue.

"Well, DUH. You ARE ugly. But..." He sighed. "I suppose, not as ugly as I said you were. You're beautiful inside and out, Mei."

He began to prepare the couch for her to sleep on.

"Ah, yes! Apologies."

*she smiles gently as the semi-compliment, he reminds her so much of her brother it kills her. She can't wait to take him to see her mom, if he lets her*

"it's fine, I'm used to sleeping in random places. You don't need to apologize!"

*she goes over to the couch and gets ready to go to sleep*

"goodnight Sirius!"

*Sirius nodded...

Quietly.

Not with an ounce of sarcasm, not with his usual curiosity. No... he was just... lost in thought, remembering her horns, remembering her strangeness.

No one saved him like that.

Maybe she wasn't so bad after all.

Maybe....

A human can be friends with a monster.

After a moment of mental consideration, he turned off the lamp, preparing to leave. Not without a single glance.

He planned to make her breakfast in the morning.*

*she smiled gently before going to sleep, she never new comfort could come from a human other than her own family, maybe, just maybe she can learn to trust humans...

In the morning she woke to the sweet smell of breakfast, she walks into the kitchen and sees Sirius cooking.*

"whatcha cooking?"

*she says with a playful tone, she feels weirdly excited to see him*

*Currently, the atmosphere wrafted with the delicious scent of eggs and a combination of coffee.

He perked up when she appeared. Almost immediately, he spoke with flourish, his mind already running on the possibilities on whether or not she'd enjoy the meal.*

"I am making eggs, and coffee. Oh! If you'd like, I have some tea as well... I'm pretty sure I..."

*His words drifted off when a burnt aroma unlocked alarm within him. He dashed to the oven, swiftly putting on his mittens to take out the...

The...

Theeeee....

BURNT muffins.

He stared at the grime muffins, crispy, bitter and completely dried.

A singular tear fell out of his eye, staining his glasses a bit.*

"MY FUCKING MUFFFINNSSSSSSS!!!"

*she burst out laughing, they're two moods plus the silly atmosphere it's felt like she was home again, enjoying the morning all over again*

"do you need help making new muffins"

*she asked, wiping a tear from laughing so hard, shes pretty good at making muffins*

"here you sit down while I remake the muffins"

*she takes out all the ingredients and starts making the muffins, she does it pretty quick, she pulls out the muffins from the oven and the sweet smell of the blueberry muffins engulfs them*

*A hint of amusement rested in his eyes.

Although, it wasn't enough to reduce and hide his disappointment at her muffin-making skills.

Was he a BIT jealous that she made better muffins than him?

Yes.

Most definitely. He was bested by a non-human in by a blueberry muffin. But... he had to admit...

It was extremely delicious.

He tried to refuge the satisfaction in his eyes at the unexpected crunch and chewiness. He glimpsed at her slightly*

"... It's... Acceptable." He proceeded with another bite.

*she giggles*

"glad you like it! It's a homemade recipe, I've been making them since I was 14, my siblings were always late for school and would beg me to make them before school and would even help me. Although it was always a mess afterwards. Mom would help time to time but she was always out late at night because she worked 3 jobs. I had to stay home and be homeschooled just to watch them, I didn't have many friends because of that but it was a fine childhood."

*she realized she was talking to much about her childhood and quickly shut up*

"but yeaa that's where I learned how to make muffins!"

*she says with a nervous smile*

As y'all know my cat died yesterday and every night she comes and lays on my bed and I keep seeing her in the corner of my eye walking towards me... I miss her so much... I hate cancer in cats.... Or just cancer in general... I'm gonna die. A part of me died with her and I'm losing it. I'm fucking losing it. IM GOING FUCKING INSANE!!!

*Isolation was a peaceful engagement Sirius had ever known... a simple, bittersome sweetness that offered solitary comfort.
