Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) - Review.
The quintessential action-adventure film, Raiders of the Lost Ark is a adventure masterpiece. The story is about Indiana Jones, a professor who happens to be a celebrated archeologist, who is hired by the goverment to retrieve the legendary Ark of the Covenant. While on his journey, he is encountered by the Nazi regime, who is also in search of the Ark
Steven Spielberg does a brilliant job in making you invested in the story. The story is so engaging and the sceenplay by Laurence Kasdan is brilliant. The film makes you invested in the mystery behind the Ark
Harrison Ford is spectacular as Indiana Jones, as he's borth relatable and charming. Karen Allen was great as Marion. I loved her chemistry with Ford and unlike many women in action films, she's isn't used as sex object and she's a badass and has an agency. Paul Freeman was wonderful as Belloq. He was a great counterpart of our hero and you clearly understood his motivations.
The action sequences are also brilliant. I loved the handy camerawork used throughout the action scenes and there's a great use of tension during these scenes. We can feel the vulnerability of the hero. I a also very impressed that the film used practical effects in very great way.
Overall, Raiders of the Lost Ark set the bar for blockbuster filmmaking and is arguably one of Spielberg's best work.

X-Men (2000, Bryan Singer)
Happy 19th anniversary, X-Men!
Trainspotting is such a remarkable film. Considered to be of British cinema's greatest achievements, Trainspotting is a perfect blend of comedy, drama, horor and hyper-realism that explores the dangers of addiction
This movie does not glorify drug addiction, it's about struggling against addiction and tying to move on with your life. The main theme of the movie is how to coupe when there's nothing to push you to lead a good life. That's what made me invested in the movie.
The movie benefits from the screenplay by John Hodges, based on Irvine Welsh's novel of the same name, and Danny Boyle's brilliant direction. The cast are great in their roles. Ewan McGregor was fanatsic as Renton. He was relatable and sympathetic. What makes Renton a compelling protagonist is that he's a guy trying to become a better person and move on with his life, only to be interrupted by his group of friends, who are the real obstacles in his way of changing his life.
Robert Carlyle, Jonny Lee Miller and Ewen Bremmer were also great as Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud, as each character is given their own humanity and are relatable in their way. Even Irvine Welsh appears as Mickey Forrester, that was a surprise! I love the usage of music in this film, as it's used to advance the scene. The bedroom hallucination scene is one of the most disturbing scenes I've ever seen.
Trainspotting is the film that reinvigorated British cinema and one of the best movies out there. Do not miss it.
Final rating: A+

"There is no definition of beauty, but when you can see someone's spirit coming through, something unexplainable, that's beautiful to me."
Happy 42nd birthday, Liv Tyler!
âCome on Mr. Frodo. I canât carry it for you. But I can carry you!â
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is a brilliant conclusion to Peter Jackson's Middle-Earth saga and the definitive thierd chapter of a movie series. The movies builds everything that made the first two films great and advances the storyline and character development.
Once again, the performances from the cast are great and each actor get the chance to shine as their characters. Peter Jackson's direction is still spot on, as he allows us to breathe the world of Middle-Earth and expands the universe.
The technical aspects of the film are an improvement over its predeccessors, as the production team puts brilliant detail sets in the films. The screenplay is very cleverly adpated from the source material and does a good job of adding what to include and what not to include from the books. Howard Shore's score reaches level of epicness and still captures the tone of the movie. The CGI is improvement over its predeccessors and the battle scenes are great.
The only nitpick I have is the ending. It's bit chessy and corny, but it surprisingly works in the movie, as it wraps up each character arc nicely. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is my favorite of the Middle-Earth saga and probably one of my favorite movies of all time.
9.8/10
"If you're sitting in the audience, you probably can't see the preparation and work that goes into creating a great scene or a great part, but I can assure you that a good film depends on lot of different things falling perfectly into place."

Oh, you forgot these.
The first X-Men is the movie that revolutionzed the superhero genre and helped pave the way for the modren comic book genre.
I love how Bryan Singer directed this film. Singer does a great job in establishing the world of mutants and how they are feared by mankind. This movie shows the perjudice and alegotory of mutants and how it ressembles the fight for human and gay rights in real life.
The casting is great and near perfect. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are fantastic choices for Professor X and Magneto and are so well suited for the role. Hugh Jackman is THE best choice for Wolverine and I can't imagine anyone else playing the role of Wolverine. The supporting cast, including James Marsden as Cyclops, Famke Janssen as Jean Grey and Anna Paquin as Rogue, are also great.
One of the things that I love about the film is the relationships between the characters. It feels so natural and realistic. I loved the father-daughter relationship between Logan and Rogue and Professor X's relationship with Magneto.
The only issues I have is that it doesn't hold up very well and Tyler Mane dosen't do much as Sabertooth. Also, there are some CGI effects that hasn't aged well. Overall, X-Men is a very underrated superhero classic and a great start to the X-Men franchise. I'll give it a 8.8 out of 10.

Cannes 2019.
âWe use this movie as our weapon. This is our protest. This is how we fight.â
Doug Dillaman reports from the first few days at Cannes, where a polarizing Brazilian mystery draws inspiration from Directorsâ Fortnight honoree John Carpenter.
Films receiving riotous mid-film applause. People walking out. Wildly unpredictable audience behavior is par for the course at the Cannes Film Festival, but at the premiere of Bacurau, Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornellesâ rousingly assured and constantly surprising film, both happened at the same moment. That sums up the polarizing nature of the work. Fans of Aquarius will recognize aspects of Mendonça Filhoâs extraordinary technique, to be sure, but may also be taken aback by the directions in which he goes.
