Lily Evans has found her place in Hogwarts, she's learned the ropes and made friends - but some relationships are starting to shift, and a chat with a good friend helps explore these changes.
The Great Hall is buzzing with chatter on this grey Saturday morning. Despite the heavy clouds surrounding the Hogwarts castle and fogging the enchanted ceiling, most of the students have plans to visit Hogsmeade after breakfast. Shopping trips, Butterbeers galore, and — for some — romantic dates are on the cards, and the Slytherin table is, overall, not exempt from the excitement.
Sev is, predictably; but Lily knows better than to waste any energy on changing that. Instead, she bides her time, participating in small talk left and right — reassuring Emma who is fussing over her hair, concurring with whomever said that fig jam is better than strawberry — and making sure not to get caught looking toward the Gryffindor table.
There’s not much need for that, anyway, because Sirius Black needs no reminder to be perfectly on time as always — and, like the trouble he is, line up that perfect timing with the best opportunity to annoy Sev. He shows up by Lily’s side, forcing her to turn her back to Sev right in the middle of their conversation to look at him, and offers no greeting.
“Ready?”
Lily springs up from her seat, her focus now square on the new arrival. “Yep.”
Sev, interrupted mid-sentence, gapes for one single moment before his tone turns sharp. “Where are you going?”
“To Hogsmeade,” Lily replies airily.
“We said we weren’t going to Hogsmeade.”
“No,” she replies straight to his face, with a long drawn-out vowel — she’s been waiting for this. “I said I wanted to go shopping, and you said there are no good shops at Hogsmeade and it would be better to stay in and do Slughorn’s essay. So stay in and do Slughorn’s essay. I’m going shopping.”
