A Classroom Full of Jesus
What a day to remember.
I was having a class with my Grade 1 Dami about their needs, showing them pictures of a life that is safe and comfortable and a life that is not. Getting all their answers made my heart even more grateful in my years of teaching. These are only Grade 1 students.
I asked them, "Are you grateful for the things you have in life?" They all answered, "YES!" Then one student asked me, "What is life?" Oh Lord, are You speaking right now? Are You here in my classroom? Are You sitting among them? Because today, my class was full of YOU.
At that moment, I was reminded that beyond academics, beyond lessons, beyond grades, what these children truly need is You. Lord, this is what they need, more of You and less of themselves. More truth, more grace, more wonder, and more faith.
Because of what is happening around us, I sometimes fear that these children will grow up trying to fight even their smallest battles on their own.
But today, You reminded me that You are already pursuing their hearts. I see light in the tunnel, Lord. I see hope.
They asked about Mary. They asked about Jesus. They asked if God is powerful. They asked who made God. Oh, the questions they asked stirred my heart. Their curiosity reminded me that You have placed eternity in every human heart, even in the hearts of little children. They are searching, and You are allowing them to seek. They are asking, and You are revealing Yourself little by little.
One of my students told me, “Teacher, you know how Jesus will be happy? When we are kind to everyone.” And LORD, she was crying. My little 7-year-old girl was crying while talking about You. She couldn't hold back her emotions when she spoke about Jesus.
And I just sat there in awe.
How can a child love Someone she cannot see unless Your Spirit is moving in her heart? How can a child be so tender unless You are teaching her? Lord, You are real. You are alive. You are working in places we cannot see.
To entertain their questions about You, Lord, made me stop what I was originally planning to teach. And honestly, I did not mind at all. You spoke over me in that moment. Ititigil ko po lahat ng kailangang itigil, Lord, if it's all about You. No lesson plan can compare to watching You capture the hearts of children.
This was the highlight of my day.
I'm tired, yes. The work is endless. The responsibilities are many. But today You reminded me why You placed me in a classroom. Not just to teach lessons, but to point little hearts to You.
They didn't want to stop talking. And who would want to stop talking when the topic is Jesus?
Sino po ba ang ayaw tumigil magsalita kung Ikaw ang topic, Lord?
So today, I pray for every child You have entrusted to me. Guard their hearts. Protect their minds. Preserve their innocence. Let them grow up knowing that they are loved by You, seen by You, and called by You.
May they never lose their wonder. May they never lose their faith. May they never stop asking questions about You.
And may they discover, again and again, that every answer leads back to Jesus.
Bless my kids and keep them always, Lord. Be with them wherever they go. Let them know that You are near, even when they cannot see You.
And as for me, Lord, thank You for reminding me today that You are still moving. You are still drawing hearts to Yourself. You are still using children to teach adults.
I am amazed. I am humbled. I am in awe.
I love You, Jesus. 🤍
