I’m gonna audition for a local orchestra soon!!! they’re having them in august so i have time to prep but!!!!! i’ve never done anything like this before so i’m scared!!!!!!!

i really wanna do it tho because i love playing my violin and havent played consistently since high school and my music classes got me through so much of the shit i went through back then, like music has always been a huge part of my life but performing as part of a group changed me as a person for the better

so yeah!!! mech update!!!!! hopefully things go well and if they don’t then they don’t know what they’re missing out on and i’m still awesome and hey at least i tried!!!!!

I completely understand, I've gotten into local theater the last few years and I've been in at least 1 show a year since but I've been hemming and hawing about trying to find a choir again for a while, I did it from middle school all through college and I miss it SO BAAAAAAAAD! It was a huuuuuuge part of my life even more than theater and exactly, just really shaped me and changed me for the better all of my friends from middle-college I ever had I met through choir, music is an AMAZING way to find and build community!

And omg yeah auditioning is so scary 😨 I've never played an instrument before really so I'm not sure how like band/orchestra auditions are but I STILL get scared every time I audition for shows, and back in my choir days I was terrified! Theater, at least at my local theater we audition in small groups and everyone gets up and sings their song, we dance all together, and we read together unless for some reason they only ask certain people to read lines, but we all clap for each other and everyone is so sweet and supportive of each other but it's still scary!!! But I'll tell you, as long as you do your best, and you feel confident in what you did and you feel good about it, that's all that matters.

And exactly!!! If it doesn't work out, well they just missed out on a wonderful, talented individual and that's on them because I know you're gonna do great! And also what helps me is that if it doesn't work out this time, you can always try again! I've not been cast in a show where I thought I did really well in the audition and I was confident and proud of myself and it seemed like it went really well, then I ended up getting the email that I wasn't cast and it was devastating because I thought I did so well, but then there was another show I wanted to do in the fall and I tried again, and I got in! There's always another opportunity if one doesn't work out, and if it doesn't it's okay to be sad about it! Also every audition is practice for the next one, so there's always something to take away from the experience and learn and grow and that's so helpful to think about!
