Shoes, oh glorious shoes! These are a pair of handmade, Peranakan beaded shoes. The heel is carved from wood by a 78 year-old cobbler.
Peranakan Porcelainware Haul From an old man along the street - who sets up his stall only when he's free and feels like it.
Le Moutons - I think I've found all the lost sheep.
Batik never fails to amaze me, not to mention that it's so fun to do. It's wonderful how wax is used to entrap beautiful colours - colours that are overlaid, overlapped, full of surprise as they mix together, and at "seemingly-random" spots too. The other thing I fancy about hand-drawn batik is how there is bound to be what people would call, "imperfections". The dots and other marks made by a tjanting are never even - and that's what makes them so alluring, to me. This piece holds a mature colour-tone in general, but I love it because of its sploshes of colour, how the design isn't symmetrical - which is unlike the usual batik patterns I've seen, and how both colour and design blend and stand out all at the same time, how it looks traditional and yet contemporary.

Mooncake Moulds Found some of these awesome Ang Ku Kueh and Piglet biscuit / cake moulds at the store yesterday. Ang Ku Kueh moulds are usually much larger (about the size of domo's paw) so I was very lucky to find this mini. Same goes for the piggy - it usually is larger. I also found out only yesterday that the Ku in Ang Ku Kueh means tortoise. Hence, the literal meaning of this is Red Tortoise Cake, probably due to the shape of the kueh. The Chinese character, 寿,is also on the cake, representing longevity. With its usually red colour (it comes in grey and other colours, along with different varieties of fillings these days), it is believed that this is one auspicious cake to have :)
Vintage beaded purse pendants :)
Pom Pom madness.

Red Prawn durian mooncakes 😍 I’m so excited about trying these when they arrive in September, as I’ve resisted durian mooncakes for years.
I also indulged in a Haru silk lantern with an LED bulb. 😅. There is something very oriental about that fat, blooming lotus and the way the butterfly’s wings are spread is just so pretty.

Bridget Bodenham.
I speak blue and gold, or maybe just spots and stripes. x adorable drawing from Bridget Bodenham x teapot on my wishlist x new plates and a brooch Again, it's so hard to catch her stuff so it always makes me feel lucky to be able to own a piece of her work.
The strange but beautiful So in love with these cups with a horizontal handle, only by Bridget Bodenham. The last cup featured - it makes me feel as if the gold horizontal handle melted into the cup at exactly where the cloud is, although it's simply meant to be just a cloud 😅
Finds at the market :) Nasi Campur, awesome banana fritters (not pictured), a phoenix and peony handpainted pot, and double happiness dragon and phoenix plates :) some parts were painted with iridescent paint. So amazing. They were covered in soil when we found them - we soon were told at the tour at the blue mansion that soil helps to preserve things - such as flooring (the flooring of the mansion were in excellent condition as the floor probably was never cleaned and was covered in dirt, which turned out to be a protective layer :)). The market is a must go to in Penang.
Food and food stalls in Penang

*slurp*! Prawn noodles. Fatty pork. Wanton mee. Clams. Carrot cake. Fried prawn paste chicken wings. Chicken feet. Salted vegetable soup. Pizza (yes, made by an old man in a local Penang coffeeshop which opens only at night). We must go back for more. For second helpings. And more!!!
Food in Penang Every meal in Penang was satisfying :) Opposite our hotel was a coffeeshop which operated at night, with stalls that served the best Chendol and kway teow soup we had ever eaten, century egg and pig organ porridge, kway with pig's blood and more. Ahh.. What a delight!! Thankfully we stayed in Penang for 5 days, or we would not have been able to finish trying out all these terrific food!
