the horrors persist but so do books, art, hot chocolate, winter nights, the moon, the sea, the stars, sunsets, literature, libraries, cats, flowers, stories, love and the wistful feeling you get when you finally return home
i do think we should normalise being like. platonically enamoured with someone. perhaps i love and admire you dearly and there's nothing romantic about it
people will say “they’re only friends” and then show me two people who would crawl through broken glass to hear the other laugh once. two people who have memorized each other’s coffee orders, fears, childhood stories, and emergency contacts. two people who would haunt each other’s houses as ghosts. be serious.
Just an FYI—the original intention of this post was to challenge the way people say only friends, as though friendship is somehow lesser than other forms of love. As if being deeply known, cherished, and chosen by another person could ever be a small thing. Normalize profound platonic love. Some of the most fulfilling, transformative, and enduring relationships we will ever have are friendships. 🫶🏼
saw moots posting so let me say it again. Everyone get more platonic NOW. RIGHT NOW. QUICK.
It is essential we all become more platonic . Let those freaks be bestest of friends let those characters hold hands and cuddle without any romance involved stop having couples gatekeep all affection I want everything to Stop being romantic I'm killing romance with my bare hands. Let two beings stand next to eachother without rushing to say "B-BUT.. LOOK AT THE WAY THEYRE LOOKING AT EACHOTHER! THERE'S NO-" yes there is a platonic explanation for it there always is one. The explanation is that theyre friembds. :]

tbh, sometimes the “platonic explanation for this” is the more interesting one

On Friendship.
The problem with alterous attraction is the way it feels as big as a stormy ocean at night. Have you ever seen that? Ever stood on beach and watched the ocean toss and turn and known it could destroy you in an instant? Have you ever felt it calling to you as if you could use the everdeep well of strength it possesses? Have you ever felt something, some cavernous need behind your ribcage, calling to someone like the ocean calls to you?
And at the same time it feels like the need to make someone a cup of coffee and a sandwich. The casualness of it, the ease, the unbearably quiet intimacy of “I can take care of you in this way if you need me.” Of “I’m here. I’m by your side. I’d fight this whole town for you if you needed. Here is a grilled cheese.”
And then comes the fear of losing yourself and your own space, the fear that you don’t know yourself well enough to build something like this, the fear that you don’t deserve it, that you’ll break it.
Have you ever noticed how a stormy ocean at night feels like 2pm on a Sunday in your too-small kitchen, slow dancing barefoot in your pajamas, loving but not in love?
“i feel like i have no purpose” You are not a fixed entity. You do not have one grand, singular, constant purpose. As long as you have genuine intent behind your actions, everything you do serves a purpose. As long as you are truly present, you notice that everything contributes to a greater whole. You do not need to dedicate yourself endlessly to one practice to achieve a purpose; allow yourself to oscillate freely between them all. Experiment. You are not one dimensional: treat yourself as such.

Anyone care for some orufrey?
one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kid™ is that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job. scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbling on some bread is better than starving.
DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOU’RE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE.
One of my college professors used to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.” I didn’t understand that for years because I didn’t do anything poorly, I couldn’t do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything Perfectly.
But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting. Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible. Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible. Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.
Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly… because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.
someone please hit me over the head with this post every day for like the next week thanks. a mention, a reblog with text, a message, something.
"i would die for you" this, "i'd walk through fire for you that"
what about "i'd live for you" romances? what about "i never thought i'd be worth the work it would take to piece myself together"?
what about "i don't believe i'm worth it, but for you i'll try"
Also, my personal favorite "I accepted that I was doomed long ago, but finding you makes me want to live again"

You cannot hide this in the tags, bestie. This is too lovely to keep a secret.

being hopeful is just so fucking hard sometimes. and i hate it’s so much easier to be sad. because being sad sucks. but it’s comfortable and predictable and familiar. i have to work for hope. i have to make the choice to be hopeful. even when im sad. even when im empty. even when i just want to let the darkness consume me. even when ive spent months being consumed. especially when ive spent months being consumed. hope is hard. but it’s worth it. it’s always worth it. and sometimes we all need that reminder.
sometimes you have to work for it. sometimes you’ve gotta scream and cry and drag and claw your way to hope. but it’s worth it. it’s always worth it. i deserve hope. you deserve hope. we all deserve it. even if we think we don’t. even if it’s hard. even if it feels like we’ll never feel hope again. i will. you will. we all will. don’t give up on hope. it hasn’t given up on you.
it’s hard. but so is misery. misery feels easier because you don’t have to choose it. and you have to choose hope. but hope’s warmth is so much better than misery’s darkness. and we all deserve that warmth.
