Genji sat at the small bar they had in the house, hands folded in his lap, staring at the bubble with Azurites gem in it that was hovering around Topaz’s head. The gem in question was making a spicy smelling dish in the big pot that Genji had forgotten they even had. They hummed as they grabbed different ingredients around the kitchen, talking to themselves, freaking out Genji a bit, the whole shabang.
A creak then a thud alerted the two that someone had come in through the back door. Zircon walked into view with what looked like a soft drink in her hand. She looked from Topaz, to Genji then back to Topaz with a tired expression. She smelled the air, then her expression perked up.
“Oh man, is someone making diner?” Zircon jumped over and plopped in the seat next to Genji. “I love me some spicy food!”
Topaz giggled. “Well someone around here will finally appreciate my cookin’.”
Zircon put her drink down and pat the counter a few times. She didn’t seem to notice Azurites gem in the bubble.
Genji looked pleadingly at Zircon, but she wasn’t looking. He poked her arm.
“救い。(Help)”
Zircon finally looked over to Genji, her smile fading.
“무엇? (What?)”
“‘Ey now, we speak English here at the diner table.” Topaz pointed a spoon in their direction.
He pointed to Azurites gem in the bubble, that's when Zircon finally started to see what was going on. She slowly scooted away from the bar. "Actually, I just ate not too long ago, so I-" Genji could only see a blur, then heard a choaking sound. When he looked back to Zircon, there was a fork lodged in her throat, and Topaz didn't even look up to throw it. Zircon's eyes grew to the size of dinner plates, grabbing at the fork. But before she could even begin to try and pull it out, her body poofed into just her round gem. Topaz hummed quietly and bubbled the gem and placing it next to Azurites. "I'm not as stupid as you'd imagine, dearie~" They sang. "T-Topaz!" He wanted to yell out and tell them to stop, but he knew it'd do nothing. "Don't raise your voice at me, young man." "Y-You can't keep doing this!" "Oh? And why not?" They finally took their gaze off of their pot of goop and gave Genji a sarcastic smile. "I-I-Its not right!" Their smile started to fade. "What ain't right is that everyone doesn't appreciate anything that I do. Like this fella here," they lowered Azurites gem. "Has such a stick up his ass that he wouldn't even appreciate my cooking even if I didn't skewer him. And this little lady," They put Azurites gem back and brought down Zircons. "Had already spoiled her dinner." Genji just stared at the fusion with a face that said 'are you kidding me'. Topaz turned back to their cooking. "Don't make faces, you'll freeze your face like that."

Genji could hardly believe how late he’d slept in, skirting around the corner of a building as he sped toward the edge of town.
Once there, he saw the obvious shape of a blue man standing with his back to the street.
“Azurite!” he shouted, startling the man.
He didn’t let it show too much, turning with a wide expression that seemed to soften somewhat upon seeing Genji standing there.
“It’s about time you got here,” he said, poofy sleeve crossing over his bare arm in annoyance. “Citrine and Ruby have had to help me all day.”
“Helping would imply you chipped in, too,” Star Ruby said as he emerged with a large crate.
Genji took a moment to watch him, mouth open in awe.
“Ruby! You’re so strong!”
“Of course he is,” Azurite huffed. “Of course, that’s just a Star Ruby characteristic.”
“Don’t listen to him,” Ruby said, hefting another large crate off of the ground and easily tossing it on top of the other. Both crates balanced on one arm, he tilted back his brimmed hat and threw Genji a wink. “I thank ya mighty kindly for saying so, Genji.”
“Wow!” he said slowly. “Do you think I’ll ever get as strong as you guys?”
“Well, if your powers keep developing at their current rate,” Citrine said, appearing in front of him as she descended, wings of light splayed behind her. “Hello, Genji.”
“Citrine!” he called out, reaching out to hug around her waist.
She bent to meet him halfway, a small laugh bubbling from her throat.
“It’s good to see you,” she said, wings retracting. “So, are you ready to help clean the base?”
“Yea, what were you doing up there?” Genji asked, pointing to the roof.
“Oh, I was just washing some windows and getting the roof cleaned off,” she said. “This base isn’t like a lot of other gem bases. We actually have to maintain a lot of the structure, but it’ll all be worth it.”
“Can I help you clean the roof?” he asked, a smile brightening his face.
Still, Citrine was more than hesitant. A hand rose to her mouth and she said, “Well, maybe you could find something a bit safer. You know, down here on the ground floor.”
“Aw, come on! I can do it!” he said.
“Sorry, Genji. I’ll see you later, okay?” she asked, pressing a delicate kiss to the top of his green hair before she turned.
From her gem, another pair of golden wings sprouted and she flew back up to the domed roof of the Watchpoint.
He gave a huff, but turned to Ruby instead.
“Hey, Ruby! Can I help you lift some crates?”
“Eh, sorry, partner,” he said, hefting up a third crate for his stack. “I’ve got this covered. Besides, you might have a little trouble getting a handle on it.”
“No way! I can do it,” he said, running over to one of the crates.
As soon as his hands worked their way under the crate and into the soft dirt, he tried to heave it up. No matter how much groaned or stretched, it didn’t seem to want to give.
Then, as he was just about to give up, it began to lift.
Another smile crossed his face, only to see it being added to Ruby’s pile as the other gem had been the one to pull it from the ground.
“Sorry, bucko. Maybe next time.”
“Ruby! Carry those crates now!” Azurite yelled. “If you try taking another one, they’re going to fall over.”
“Tch, whatever,” Ruby grumbled, just low enough for Genji to here. After that, he smiled and shot him a wink, walking away as he said, “See ya later, Genji. See if Mr. Foreman has anything for you.”
“Okay, bye Ruby!” Genji said before hopping over to Azurite. “What have you got for me boss? Whatever it is, I can handle it!”
“I hope so,” Azurite said before turning back to the building. “This Watchpoint was the first to be placed on Earth. It served as the origin for all of Overwatch’s travels and a hub for all of our missions. Now that the organization is coming back, old operatives are going to be coming in from all over the galaxy.” The look he gave Genji next was full of weight, and he couldn’t help but straighten out underneath it. “I’m telling you now, Genji, that this job I’m going to give to you could very well be the foundation of these operatives lives here and how they will perceive our team. I’m counting on you. Do you accept it?”
“Yes sir!” Genji said proudly.
Azurite smirked at that, pointed beard tilting as his gem began to glow on his chest. Holding a hand over it, the blue glow lessened and revealed a rag.
“Here you are then,” he said, handing it to Genji. “I expect all of the interior windows on the first floor to be spotless by noon. Get going, I’ll be cleaning out some of the second level meeting rooms. When you get up there, come find me.”
With that, Azurite quickly trotted inside, leaving Genji to gaze after him in disbelief.
He turned toward Star Ruby. There, he saw that the other hadn’t even noticed what happened, as he was too busy stacking up a few more crates. Then he looked up to the roof, noting Citrine as an orange blur, dancing around and quickly shedding layers of dirt from the domed roof.
Time went by while Genji continued cleaning the windows. The further he went, he found that the process went along easily. Some of them held a few dents and scratches he could just barely see, all of which were inflicted from the outside. Still, they were barely noticeable, unless Genji looked a bit too closely at the glass. He knew Azurite would, but it was hardly his fault that he couldn’t reshape glass.
As he finished up the third hallway, a face surprised him by hanging upside down on the window.
That surprise travelled through his body, flinging him back and into the wall before he saw the surprised face of Citrine.
“Genji!” she said, pressing hand against the glass. As she touched the panel, it began to glow a faint orange before it slid up and Mercy danced into the room, wings dissipating once more. “Are you okay?”
“Uh, yea,” he said. “You just surprised me is all.”
“Oh, sorry! I always forget how squishy you humans are. So, Azurite has you cleaning windows huh?”
“Yea, I guess.” he said. “Hey, Citrine, don’t you guys live here? Why is it so dirty?”
“Oh, well it really isn’t all of us that live here. It’s really just been me lately,” she said. “I guess I just don’t spend a lot of time with the upkeep. The Diamonds know I’ve tried but it really isn’t worth leaving the lab.”
“What do you do around here, anyway?”
“Oh you know! I had a few projects to manage on Earth and every gem should have a healer in the area,” she said. “When Star Ruby and Azurite decided to stick around, so did I.”
“And it’s gonna be a lot more than that soon.”
The new voice attracted both of their attentions to the window where Star Ruby poked his head into the freshly opened sill.
He continued his thought with, “By the end of today, we’re gonna have the old team put back together. Well, for the most part, that is.”
“That’s right,” Citrine said in a low tone. “Scanning the Earth recently has brought up recent signs of gem activity all across the globe. It’s more than just the three of us could handle.”
“You mean the four of us,” Genji said proudly, shoving his chin into the air.
Citrine stared at him for some time before she gave a rough chuckle.
“Of course,” she said, running a hand through his hair. “The four of us.”
“That’s right, and you’re our first new recruit! How ya feel about that?” Ruby said, reaching in to dig his hand between Genji’s green locks.
Genji laughed before shoving the hand away and correcting the band that pushed low over his eyes.
“Ruby!” he cried out.
“I know, I know,” he said. “Just messing with ya, kid. Why don’t you run off, ya know? Get something to eat, or whatever you humans do.”
“No thanks, I gotta clean these windows. Azurite said they gotta be done by noon. Then I can stop for lunch. So, Citrine,” he turned to her, “I’m going to have to ask you to put the window back.”
She giggled and flew back through the window. All it took was a hand on the wall and the window was back in place, allowing Genji to scrub furiously once more.

Amber and Star Ruby looked at each other, both deciding wether or not this was a good idea. Genji was there again, trying to play match maker. He thought that their personalities would compliment each other. Star being more stable and down to earth, while Amber was more carefree and energetic.
Star chewed on some grass he had found, staring at Genji. “If we fuse, you’re going to eat everything Topaz makes, okay?” He raised a brow jokingly.
Genji’s eyes lit up. “Topaz cooks?!”
“Mhm.” Amber said, putting her hands on her hips. “They’re is a mighty fine cook, might I say.”
“Well come on! I wanna see Topaz!”
Amber giggled and dashed over to Star, who wasn’t quite expecting her to be on him so fast. “It’ll be fun, let’s do it!” Star laughed and pat her shoulders. “Yeah yeah, let’s get this over with.” Star Ruby and Amber bowed to each other before stamping their feet on the ground and moving around the other. They were giggling and laughing like little kids. Their gems started glowing and as soon as they touched hands, a big bright light illuminated the area. Genji looked up after the light dispersed and there was a tall gem, four arms, four eyes, giggling and twirling around. The gem, who Genji assumed was Topaz, fell on their back and wrapped their arms around themselves. “Oh, it’s mighty fine to be back!” They had a southern bell accent.
“Been forever since I got to show my pretty face again.”
“Are you Topaz?” Genji waked over to the fusion.
“That I am, buttercup.” They rolled on their stomach and smiled at Genji. “And aren’t you just the darnedest little thing.” They used their thumb to rub Genji’s hair. “Such a cute, handsome boy.”
Genji laughed and pushed their thumb away. “I ain’t cute, I’m manly!” He flexed his arm to show off what little muscle he had.
Topaz giggled and placed their chin in one pair of their hands. “Whatever you say, cupca-”
“I swear to Green Diamond herself!” Azurite was walking up to the three of them with his teeth gritted. “You can’t just keep fusing like this! It’s reckless!”
“Azure, no, come on, we’re just having fun!” Genji tried to give him a smile, but it came out like a shaky grin.
Topaz pushed their lips and rolled on their back, looking at Azurite who was now standing beside them with his arms folded. “Why do you have to be such a stick in the mud, dearie?”
“I am not a ‘stick in the mud’.” He articulated each word. “I am trying to keep everyone in line, and fusing without reason will not be tolerated–” His voice got cut short but a sandy spike shoving itself through his abdomen. Azurites eyes grew wide as he looked at Topaz, who had a little smirk on their lips and a finger extended. Genji held his hands over his mouth as he glanced between the two. His body proofed into a cloud of dust and left only a small, rectangular stone where he had stood. The sand around the gem shifted and drug it under the surface. “A shame,” Genji looked to Topaz, who now had Azurites gem in their hand. “I always thought he could loosen up a little.”
“Y-You can’t just do that!” Genji shouted. He took a step back when their eyes met his.
“You don’t raise your voice at me, young man.” They pressed their lips together again and sat up. “Now, be a good boy and go set the table.”
Genji just stood staring at them. “… Wh-What?”
“Well we can’t have diner if the table ain’t set, sugar.”
“B-But we–”
Topaz glared at him. “Dare I repeat myself?”
“… N-No… No ma'am…” Topaz smiled and pat Genji’s head again, putting Azurites gem in a bubble.

“So...” Hematite looked over the new recruit from head to toe. “I didn’t think that a Star Ruby would be the one to rebel. A regular Ruby, maybe, but I thought that Star Rubies were pretty submissive.” A small smirk formed on his lips.
The gem before him just knitted his brow together and glared up at him. This kid was all tattered from all the fighting he had done before Red Diamond decided to scatter the Star Rubies across the cosmos.
Hematite tilted the others hat up to get a better look at his face, he looked back down. “Are you not gonna introduce yourself to your new commander?”
“...You already know who I am...” He said through clenched teeth.
“Tell me anyway.” Hematite drew his hand back and crossed his arms.
Star Ruby didn’t say anything. He just kept his eyes down and fists tight.
Hematite raised a brow. “I’m waiting, boy--”
“I’m Star Ruby! What else do you want?!” He snapped, finally looking up at the other gem.
The elder looked down at the kid, expression unchanging. Star Ruby stared up at him with eyes full of anger. Neither one of them moved or said anything for a while, until Star Ruby broke eye contact and sighed, letting himself relax.
“I apologize...” He looked back down with a defeated expression.
Hematite finally smiled and rested a hand on Star Rubies’ stupid hat. “Kid, I need you to not roll on your back once you get into a fight. From what I heard, you were the one leading the Star’s rebellion. I need that Star, not a submissive one.” Star Ruby didn’t look up. Hematite pressed his lips together into a thin line. “Now, either you can mope about and complain about how much you’re going to hate it here like a little bitch, or you can be a great gem like the rest of us. Like what I know you can be.” He leaned down to be eye level with Star, smiling. “What do you say?”
Star Ruby didn’t say anything for a few seconds before sighing and nodding his head. “... Okay... Okay, sir...”
Hematite smiled wider and wrapped his arm around Star Rubies’ neck. “I know you can do great, kid!” He pulled Rubies’ hat over his eyes, making him laugh a bit and shooing his hand away.
