If you are heterosexual. Only attracted to the opposite sex. You are not. Part of the LGBT+ community. It doesn’t matter if you also are also Demi. What would make you a part of the LGBT in that case is if you were demi romantic and ALSO attracted to people of the same/more than one/ etc sex.

Honestly to be fair if even though exclusionists come in all shapes, sizes, genders, and orientations, if there’s one is flying some kind of pride flag in their avatar it does tend to be the lesbian flag, just putting that out there. And not to mention that thing during Pride Month. So pardon me if I’m not immediately thrilled to see one.

We, the LGBT community, don’t need to acknowledge the parts of your identity that aren’t LGBT.

we constantly get told not to attend pride unless we’re in a same sex relationship, get degrading comments from both the gay community and straight people, are told we aren’t ‘queer enough’ and that because we can pass as straight we don’t deserve a place in LGBTQ+ spaces.

let me elaborate.

when a kid comes out as gay/bi/trans to their family, this implies a very high chance of them being rejected by their own family, facing disgusting comments about their orientation/identity, facing the danger of conversion therapies or being forced to join “help” groups. they face the real danger of being left homeless, disowned. or, if they are luckier, their family might ignore their confession and continue acting like their kid is straight/cis, or they might just disapprove and make the kid feel guilty about their orientation/identity. they face parents who refuse to attend their weddings, to help finance their transitions, to give them love and support. they face actual, real life dangers and traumas.

when a kid comes out as ace/aro/demi/etc that’s just… not even remotely close? i mean, it’s great if your relationship with your parents allows you to speak to them about your life without any sort of taboos, like, if you wanna tell your parents about how much sex you want to have or how you don’t really have any interest in romantic relationships then that’s really neat. it’s just not like… in any way comparable to coming out as gay/bi/trans.

how are you gonna say that telling your parents “mom, dad, i don’t want to have sex with every person i meet and honestly i’m not really that interested in sex altogether” is in any way comparable to “mom, dad, i’m gay/bi/trans”
