The 1992 Los Angeles riots began in South Central Los Angeles on April 29, after a trial jury acquitted four officers of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for the usage of excessive force in the arrest and beating of Rodney King, which had been videotaped and widely viewed in TV broadcasts.
I lived within a mile of where it began and lived in the midst of the six-day period of widespread looting, assault, arson, and murder that occurred during the riots when the LAPD and fire dept refused to come in the area the first 3 days.
I shot several rolls of film of what I saw but most were destroyed in a move years later. Here are few that I found I had scanned.
