ineffable special interests

I was so overwhelmed yesterday, I did not really take in this last shot how it would have deserved.

...and the apple tree...sigh...

Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.

And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"

Did they have to put Jim's blanket on the arm of the chair with the "cocoa delivery" line, like this all wasn't devastating enough? 😂

Do I have many, more expansive thoughts on this, and everything else? Yes. Am I still emotionally not recovered from "you wouldn't know a nightingale...", though? Yes. It's broken me. It's just so sad. I loved so much of all of this 90 minutes of brainy bonkers weirdness but that one line has crushed me to bits. To absolute bits.

The worst part is like... the scene is full of the same sort of wordy innuendo because every version of them is that because it's just them. They're essentially Nightingaling but without knowing what that is, with it representing how they don't know who they used to be, and I think that's just what broke me.

Asa and Professor Anthony seem like nice people and I'm so glad that they're happy but they're the eternal death world of Aziraphale and Crowley. They're them, but they're also very much not them. They're both a happy ending and the saddest fucking thing I've ever seen, all at once, and while that's very Good Omens, it's also heartbreaking.
