may I ask what the quote in your bio is a reference to?

Of course! It's originally a Bible quote, I believe ("For now we see through a glass, darkly", the full verse is pretty beautiful, if you want to check it out), though I first heard it for the first time in the Ingmar Bergman movie titled as such. Basically, it means recognizing that the truth of the world can only be perceived imperfectly, through fragmented bits and pieces (a glass darkly = an obscured mirror). I suppose it can be interpreted many ways, but as a writer and a reader, I've always resonated with this quote, because writing doesn't always feel enough to convey a thought at times.
