sooojin:
( ... )
âif we keep talking about the haters iâm gonna need to drink my sorrows, mina.â she said with a laugh. it was a heavy topic on its own, without the subtle conversation about sexuality thrown in, and one that used to make soojin cry. now, in this room with her friend, despite the weight always lingering on her shoulders she felt comfortable. part of her hoped this night wouldnât end, in case another like it wouldnât come again. âthen weâd have to post some scandalous photo of spicedâs soojin and lovelessâ mina getting drunk in bed together. that would get them talking.â
mina was really beautiful when she smiled. obviously she was beautiful all the time every day all day, but soojin inwardly agreed that mina looked especially endearing with that smile and the brush of pink across her cheeks. she wanted to shower mina with even more compliments, and rid of any uncertainties or nerves that had been present beforehand. âyeah. so i can bake you into cute puff pastry.â thinking back it was an odd thing to say, but she found herself willing to say anything silly to her friend. the moment her compliments were returned soojin started shoving mina with her pillow, unable to hide her grin. ânoooo~ stop it, stop it.â she clutched the pillow back to her chest, blowing hair from her face. âdonât say it like iâm above you. i still have things to work on.â somewhere within, she felt the want to improve for mina too. âiâm just like anyone else. you just havenât lived with me yet to witness my poor moments.â
eyes glued to the screen, mina allowed herself a small smile at the answer she received. Â she quickly stored the information in the back of her mind, filing it away for future reference. Â chicken and beer sounded good to her; sheâd need to get some the next time they hung out. Â and maybe some desserts too, for that sweet-tooth. Â âso you can be a little wishy-washy, is what youâre saying. Â i can definitely relate to that. Â like i said, i usually have a top five. Â that way, i can switch out my favorites to fit my mood.â
âoh, iâm not a leader,â she laughed with a shake of her head. Â âi look after others, but iâd be a useless leader. Â iâm too much of a pushover.â Â there was a good reason why l:ovelessâ leader position went to sunnie, despite her not being the eldest in the group. Â in the beginning, there had been questions about the companyâs decision to give the position to a younger member. Â the original oldest member, jade, had kicked up quite a shit-storm over it. Â but mina never felt the need to question it. Â in her eyes, age had nothing to do with leadership skills. Â while she had a big heart and a habit of caring for others, there was no way sheâd be able to act as the bridge between the group and their company. Â âbeing a leader isnât all itâs cracked up to be anyway. thereâs nothing wrong with focusing on yourself. Â you canât expect your group to work fluidly if you donât have your own shit together.â
âforget about the haters. Â iâll give you enough love to drown out all their nonsense,â mina grinned at her friend, leaning in to give her a gentle nudge with her shoulder. Â talking about the hate you received from the general public wasnât necessarily a fun thing to do. Â she certainly wasnât jumping at every opportunity to point out some of the nasty things netizens posted, but after being in and out of the spotlight for seven years, it was easier to deal with. Â it was important to keep in mind that soojin debuted later on, and that she was added to the spiced line-up four years after their initial debut, immediately following the loss of two original members. Â no matter what, even if she had been the most talented person in the world, she was set up for negative attention the second she became a member. Â that was a lot for one person to handle, especially when the usual amount of hate idols received was piled on top of it all. Â trying to keep the conversation as light-hearted as possible was very important. Â âbut if you really want, i have a few soju bottles in the back of my fridge. Â iâm sure we could kick up a scandal or two with just a few photos.â
the otherâs comments did nothing to help her blush, so she tried her best to hide it by covering her face with her hands. Â she never really knew how to respond to compliments, let alone when they came from someone she kind of-sort of had a crush on. Â it was embarrassing, but at the same time, there was an unfamiliar, pleasant warmth that spread through her. Â as awkward as she felt, there was a part of her that wouldnât mind it if soojin complimented her forever. Â âwho knew you could be such a cheeseball, huh?â she snickered, getting great satisfaction out of the way her friend began shoving her with the pillow. Â at least soojin seemed to be just as affected by the comments as she felt. Â âis that an invitation to move in with you? Â because i might just try to take advantage of that offer.â
