i'm hearing you out because YEAHHH this needs to be talked about. i can SO see a rivalry between dancers chris and ginny who are at different prepro schools but compete at many of the same competitions. bigger competitions do attract a fair amount of attention (though generally not as much as sports like hockey, afaik) -- i can see them both eventually ending up as prix de lausanne finalists, for example, and getting offers from different pro companies (kind of like shane and ilya getting picked by their respective teams at the MLH draft). maybe chris is offered a contract with, idk, national ballet of canada, and ginny's offered one from american ballet theatre. just a vibe. could be any two world-class companies but the point is they're physically separated from each other most of the time. chris & ginny then end up starting an off-and-on relationship for the majority of their pro careers, getting to see each other only very rarely, perhaps at events like company galas or while traveling to guest in different cities. ilya and shane end up coming out and playing on the same team eventually -- maybe chris and ginny would similarly finish out their careers at the same company, come out, and get married after a while?
