Bubbline Theory
Ok, so in the episode with the door lord where Marceline sings “I’m just your problem”, everyone assumes the song that came before was about hating bubblegum:
“I’m gonna bury you in the ground, I’m gonna bury you with my sound, I’m gonna drink the red from your pretty pink face”
Except, the way the words are sung are with a POSITIVE and LOVING tone, and Marceline even shyly smiles when singing it
We’ve come to know throughout the series that burying each other in the ground is something said with love and affection between the two. (“I’ll be the one who puts you in the ground”)
Also Bubblegum doesn’t say “that’s mean” about Marcy’s song, she says “that’s distasteful” as in “these are feelings that shouldn’t be expressed”
THIS is what angers Marceline.
The first song wasn’t a song about hate. It was a song about love.
