Well, it looks like I have collected all the animals on another planet! Ahukul Lewissi turned out to be a pleasant surprise–relaxing, with just enough danger for bursts of excitement here and there, plus a fascinating landscape (the floating islands were especially cool, but regularly populated with six-legged ultra-aggressive leopard things).

Interestingly enough, it waffled between extreme hot and extreme cold, with nighttime temperatures dipping to a downright frigid -40°C (incidentally about -40°F), and all hours of the day occasionally punctuated with heat storms that would jack temperatures to 85°C (also incidentally about 185°F).

“It was, in a word–if brevity is the soul of breakfast–hot,” recalls Arlen, ruefully. “I mean it was weather more fit for a Pop Tart than a Faroese chap in a bacofoil suit. I swear I saw even Smiler break a sweat, and Xob was glistening like they’d walked into a sheet of cling film.”
