okay so this is way long overdue but i was on my dash a while ago and someone reblogged this text message post made by the lovely rideslou and i just needed to write an imagine to go with it :), but you have to read the text first, which can be found here (x)
Quickly starting your car, you drove slowly up and down the streets your eyes searching until you saw a figure sitting on the curb, hunched over. You parked the car and slowly walked towards Michael. He was sniffling as he sat with his head in his hands. you stopped a few inches away from him and kneeled down. He lifted his head and stared at you. He reached out a hand and softly traced your lips, his eyes flicking down then up to meet your steady gaze.
"I miss you." He whispered. Your nose scrunched up in distaste when you smelled the alcohol on his breath. his hand moved over and cupped your cheek. You wrapped your hand around his wrist but made no move to remove his hand from your cheek.
"That doesn't make me miss you any more or less." He retorted.
You sighed and stood up, trying to ignore the look on his face when you took a step back. You held out your hand to help him up. He paused before he took it and hauled himself up. He swayed a little on his feet and you tried not to fall over. The both of you shuffled to your car, tension in the air. As soon as you both were buckled, the tension seemed to grow thicker. He cleared his throat and you braced yourself for whatever was about to come out. "{Y/N}, I..."
"Not right now, please." You pleaded, on the verge of tears. Having Michael suddenly back in your life was kind of emotional for you, especially since you were still in love with him. Those months spent apart had really done a number on you, but your heart leapt with joy when Michael texted earlier. Whatever words were exchanged on that awful afternoon when you two broke up were forgotten as you looked at Michael sitting in your passenger seat. Neither of you were perfect, he was just a flawed as you were, but somehow that made you love him more.
He noticed you staring, and his lips turned up into a small smile. You smiled back and sighed.
"Maybe we um, should talk about this?" You were too afraid to admit that you were terrified to hear what he had to say when sober, so you let him explain himself drunk. He always was honest when he was drunk.
"{Y/N}, look, I-I'm so sorry for what I said. I accused you of something you'd never do, simply because I was jealous of the way you were spending time with him. I was angry and had no right to lash out at you like that, but like, these past few months have been so so freaking hard without you. I miss us, I miss you. I miss your sparkly eyes and your soft hands and the way you throw your head back when you laugh and I miss that stupid oversized sweater with the flappy dog ears and the way you traced your fingertips on my back when we finished making love...and there’s a billion other things that I miss. I loved-love you."
Right then was when you decided to do an impossibly stupid thing. You unbuckled your seat belt and reached your arms over the console, grabbing the front of Michael’s shirt and pulling him to you. His lips crashed on yours and he gently grabbed your face, his thumbs gently stroking the sides of your face. He pulled back after a few seconds and looked directly into your eyes.
“I love you. I love you so much okay? Never ever forget that. Even if we’re miles away I’m still going to be here for you because that's what I want to do. And fuck, I know I'm drunk but I mean everything I'm saying."
You smiled, your eyes glassy from tears.
"Mikey I love you too. I never stopped, and I don't think I ever will. You're everything to me, and...I need you. I don't care what I said before, because I need you. We can work things out, I'm willing to try anything." You rested your forehead against his.
"I love you so much rockstar."
