5 Seconds of Coneheads

I hate those few frames of the last shot at the start. Besides that, the clip is rather boring. The clerk is still entertaining with his reaction but not enough to counteract those stupid frames at the start.

PLAW-tinum. His inflection is so alien, which is obviously the point, and I love it. That with the way he just approaches the clerk. I would love to see the conehead homeworld and how their society normally looks. Like with all "one alien in a human world" stories, I like to imagine most of the aliens aren't like that, this guy's just weird.

I adore how absolutely serious he looks while doing something so patently ridiculous. Speeding it up only makes it better. What is that stance? The clerk's expression is still priceless, especially with how he tracks the movement of the strange individual who has appeared in what seem to be the middle of the night during a rainstorm.

Another clip where the format of this blog really play against it. It feels like we have spent so long spent in this room already even if it has been about twenty seconds total. The expressions and movements of the conehead in contrast to the awkward but human ones of the clerk are comical enough for two stars. Sadly, there is nothing else to bring it any higher. Overall, very beige in more ways than one.

I love the shaky way the clerk stands and his absolutely astounded expression, but the weird camera movement and SINGULAR FRAME of the next shot at the end really devalue the whole thing.

Sorry about another missed post so soon, I took my son into the city yesterday to see a marching band to cheer him up after the stomach bug.

He's just so goofy. After weeks of nothing happening, being so clearly reminded this is supposed to be a comedy is refreshing to the point of being almost jarring. Were I to see this clip in a vacuum or even while watching the movie at a normal pace, I'm sure it wouldn't have made me giggle quite the way it did.

Back to the earlier pattern of starting on a shot the last clip couldn't finish and then starting another shot at the end this clip won't finish. The toddle through the doorway is goofy enough for a second star, at the very least. Besides that, an unenjoyable five seconds. Even with a funky dutch angle.

A simple, yet effective clip. Very little is happening, but the full body movement as they turn to each other is too silly for me. Honestly made me snort, though that may be more from exhaustion than any actual comedic value. (Was up most of the night because my son had a stomach bug and couldn't keep his food down. Also why there was no review yesterday)

There's a good amount of motion in this clip, color too. The music change also helps. However, the main thing raising the rating is, of course, seeing the Coneheads for the first time, face on and without the camera shaking wildly. The whole shot reminds me of when me and my wife had been dating for a couple months and tried to go on a roadtrip only for the car to break down in the middle of nowhere. It was fun in the end, but definitely started of dark and wet, like this clip.

Yet another boring clip. All we learn is the motel has vacancy. It may be a necessary transition from the earlier credits shots, but that won't save it from being all around lackluster and unoriginal in every way. The only good part is how it at least has color and therefore anything at all visually interesting, sadly still not enough for two stars.

I have never been more grateful to see a neon sign. Finally, some visual interest! These last few clips feel like they have gone on forever, even if it was only ten seconds. Though I am greatly relieved to see something new, this clip is still nothing on a plate. We don't even see the entire motel sign! An improvement, but only a meagre one.

The music reminds me of the Toy Story 3 video game. That game was wildly difficult for me as a kid. I still hear "Espresso Express, coming at ya!" in my dreams. Besides that, this clip is uninteresting. If I unfocus my eyes a little, the background looks like a solid color. Credits tend to be soulless and boring, these ones are no exception.

A pointless few frames of the last clip followed by trees and credits? Not what I am looking for. At all. An aimless mess of a clip that leaves me wanting for almost anything to make it better.

We can see their cones! Took me a minute to realize those were their heads and not a part of the fallen ship. Another fairly boring clip, but the visual of them just slowly poking out of the water is too funny to me. Very pointy, very wet, very fleshy. One star for each adjective.

I appreciated the last clip a lot, but this one just doesn't do it for me. There is only a moment on the first shot and only a moment of action in the second. Not much to say here, very much a filler clip.
