Mystic Messenger âAnother Storyâ Opinion(s)/Analysis
One thing that really affected me in this new MM opening is how sad/somber everyone looks. AndâŚit makes sense. Because if you pay attention to the lyrics on the screen, it coincides with each character as explained in this post. And the fact that it is V and Rikaâs VAâs singing itâŚthey are the center of the RFA. They are, almost, observing the members of the RFA and stating these lyrics. And, then, it moves on and gives you insight on why V did what he did and why Rika is how she is.
This situationâŚaffected everybody. Rika founded the RFA. They brought everyone into it together. Then everyone thought Rika died and V went AWOL in response. Then, as what happens in each route, more details come out from each characterâs life. Then everyone finds out about Mint Eye, what Rika really did, who Unknown/Saeran is to Saeyoung. And then V dies and Rika is sent out of the country. And then everyone has to live with this secret.
Now, Iâm not sure yet how they are going to go about the timeline. The same 11 days as everyone else or before that or following the events of Secret 01 and 02. But, besides the fact of maybe V dyingâŚeverything is still going to be the same. The characters are still going through what theyâre going through and are still going to find out about Rika, Mint Eye and Saeran. And now you, as âMCâ, are going to be on the other side of that. Are going to see things from a completely different perspective, almost. And this could turn into a positive or a negativeâŚ(depending on which ending we all end up getting.) but this story is going to be, either way, incredibly bittersweet.
You are probably going to get more insight on when V and Rika were happy togetherâŚhence, when the RFA flourished and was happy too. But, then, you are going to see more of when things fall apart between them, when Rika falls apart and turns into someone else. And, so, when the RFA, in turn, follows suit.
Jumin is going to be isolated from the only two people he considers friends and, then, experiences a sense of betrayal from Rika for obvious reasonsâŚbut also from V for not coming to him sooner. Zen, in the Secret Endings, is the one who decides to send Rika to Alaska and, following everything, feels like he never even knew who Rika and V wereâŚespecially when they are the ones who helped get him to where he is in his career at this point. That has to give someone so many conflicting emotions. Jaehee, in the Secret Endings as well, finds out who Saeyoung and Saeran parents areâŚand is not allowed to say anything. And she is right there next to them and Jumin as they go through everything. And what can she even do about it? ThenâŚYoosung. He loves Rika. (In a romantic or familial wayâŚthatâs up to you. It doesnât change the fact that he does.) and he is depressed, guys. He lost someone he cares about and feels completely left alone in the dark. ThenâŚV âkills himselfâ and he is completely distraught. And, again, in the Secret Endings, what does he end up really understanding/knowing? Is that going to change in 'Another Storyâ? AndâŚI agree, I think he should know. But how is it going to affect him? ThenâŚSaeyoung and Saeran. Again, we donât know the timeline yet. But, their tragedyâŚis obvious. With you doing Vâs route you will be, possibly, getting to know Saeran more. Knowing more details of what happened when him and Saeyoung seperated and more of their childhood. Will you be able to bring them back together?
Then V and Rika. V needs helpâŚand hopefully MC gets to be that for him. Friendship, romanticâŚit doesnât matter. He feels he needs to take the burden all on himself and that it is his fault the RFA ended up hurt and Rika did what she did. Or, at the very least, it is his sole responsibility to take care of it. Will you be able to persuade him to open up sooner? ThenâŚRika. This Story is going to give you more of her backstory, I think, as well. And, just the opening itself, gives so much context into Rikaâs character. How she struggled herself, mentally and emotionally, why she is how she is. Expanding on what we found out in the Secret Endings. Why she turned intoâŚthe villain and hurt so many people. And what kind of relationship her and V had in the beginningâŚand in the end.
'Another Storyâ new main characters, along with the rest of the RFA, are going to be V, Rika and Saeran. You are finally getting to them on a deeper level.
ButâŚwhat might be the hardest thing in this Story is knowing everything already. Knowing the other characters and knowing what is going on already. This Story is going to be about the main plotline of the game and is going to have everyone a part of it.
Jumin, best friend of V and Rika, left feeling completely isolated and alone. Zen, someone who looked up to V and was deeply grateful to Rika for helping him in his passions. Yoosung, Rikaâs cousin and someone who just wanted to be close to herâŚand even close to V. Saeyoung, brother of Saeran and someone who trusted V, and especially Rika, with his future and the life of his brother. Even possibly Vanderwood with the role he played in the Secret Endings and how he works with Saeyoung. Saeran, brother of Saeyoung, and someone who felt abandoned and, hence, ends up in Mint Eye and a loyal follower of Rika. V, someone who loved Rika, Juminâs best friend, and felt he had to do everything on his ownâŚeven at the expense of his own life. And, Rika, who is responsible for all of this. But who, also, had such a deep rooted sadness and hatred for herself it twisted her into someone unrecognizable.
Another Story is obviously not a Casual Route by any means. But it is not simply another Deep Route either. It is a chance to uncover another, even deeper, chapter of this story as a whole and even more secrets.
A chance to save The Best Friend and The Brother of our Deep Route characters. And, not only that, a chance to uncover who The Founder of the RFA really is. Because, the fact is, 'MCâ wouldnât even be here, no one would be, without her.
This route has a new opening and song, and just overall feeling to it, for a reason.
Itâs going to be completely different from anything we have played and completed before.
