Kinda old Nyx fanart but Iโm still lowkey proud of it
โ I love my pasihypnos and how Pasithea is so colorful in the background of Hypnos.
I forget what I was even trying to Google here, but the top result is probably my most inexplicable autocomplete.
^ his fault
Very late to playing the game but I started playing Hades over the weekend and Iโm low-key obsessed! The character design work is just so good and Iโm especially obsessed with my guy Hypnos so I had to draw him โ๏ธ๐

So what would the different literary themes be between baten kaitos and bk origins.
Read it somewhere in a forum years and years ago, but sort of forgot it.
Without eternal wings, the message of the bk world wouldn't have been as effective.
Bottom line, guess eternal wings message was more effective if I can remember it.
Also if I hadn't come across the game, I'd be angry as kalas in the beginning of the story.
I don't recall the forum post you're referring to, but if you asked me in isolation what I personally thought the overall themes of the two games wereโฆ
I'd say BK1 is about forgiveness. The main plot with Kalas and his betrayal of the party is the obvious one, but there's a bunch of other layers and threads too: by the end, Melodia is also asking for forgiveness (even though she was being partially mind-controlled by Malpercio and it's not 100% her fault.) Duke Calbren is asking for forgiveness for reanimating her with the power of Mira's End Magnus instead of accepting her death and letting her go. Dr Georg and Larikush are asking for forgiveness for everything they've been complicit in, they both go into hiding and spend the remainder of their lives serving their new communities. Savyna is asking forgiveness for a lifetime spent being a cudgel of Alfard's military and eventually participating in a massacre. Lyude is asking forgiveness for being passive and cowardly in the face of injustice (though, reasonably, what could one soldier be expected to do? especially one from a military family who was always expected to go and serve and probably never had a lot of choice - he did conscientiously object to Operation Sweep and was exiled for it.) Xelha is asking forgiveness for lying to the party about several things at different points in the game, and on a more meta level, she's interceding to ask forgiveness from the ocean on behalf of all humanity.
BK2 is about power and extremism, the stories unfolding in both past and present time are about charismatic leaders manufacturing fear and uncertainty to build their own power and reshape the world as they see fit. I can see how that thematically feeds into BK1's conversations about forgiveness, in BK2 we see a lot of the follies/preconditions that led to so much of BK1 being about atonement.
"Malpercio" as at the center of both as well. Even in BK1 (which I strongly suspect was not planned around BK2 at all, and almost everything in BK2 was written ad hoc) we eventually learn that the "all powerful ancient evil god" is not actually an entity of its own, but five different gods fused together, and it suffers immensely and inspires pity/sympathy in whoever is connected to it.
Then of course we get the insane reveal in BK2 that the "gods" that comprise Malpercio were once ordinary humans driven to desperation to put a stop to Wiseman's designs, having signed a contract with the devil, essentially. It was like the one thing they shouldn't have done and because they foolishly went ahead and did it anyway, they triggered the War of the Gods, slaughtered their own and poisoned the earth.
This is a tangent, but I really enjoy the reveal that "gods" in the Baten Kaitos universe aren't gods the way we think of them, but humans who have ascended past their normal limitations. I remember the UI designer of BK1 was asked about what all the human figures on the world map were all about and he was like "oh, they're various gods".
โSubvertingโ Catholic art? Oh, okay. I see, you think this has nothing to do with you. You log onto the internet and you post about how โWound of Christโ from Psalter and Prayer Book of Bonne de Luxembourg, attributed to Jean le Noir, c.1349, for instance, looks like a vulva because you're trying to tell the world that you enjoy Catholic art and imagery in an alternative, queer, risquรฉ way that challenges Christian beliefs. But what you don't know is that that stigma isnโt just a vulva. It's not just a mandorla. It's not just yonic. It's actually intentionally erotic. And you're also blithely unaware of the fact that around 1297, Saint Angela of Foligno experienced a vision of Christ himself, who called her to put her mouth to the wound in his side and lick the freshly flowing blood. And then I think it was Saint Catherine of Siena who drank blood and a clear liquid from the wound before receiving a ring made from Christโs foreskin? And then graphically erotic encounters with the side wound of Christ quickly showed up in the writings of eight different mystics. And then the yonic interpretation of the stigmata filtered down through the illuminated manuscripts and then trickled on down into some pseudo-intellectual corner of the internetโฆwhere you, no doubt, fished it out of some Pinterest board. However, that interpretation represents hundreds of years and countless visions of religious ecstasy. And it's sort of comical how you think that you've come up with an idea that exempts you from Christian theology when, in factโฆyou're posting an image that was sexualized for you by the very Medieval saints you think youโre so different thanโฆfrom โsubvertedโ Catholic art.
