Finally, an anime I can relate to.

To keep the peace. 😌 There are two polarizing sides of the fandom, and while it would have been lovely to include everyone onto the team, I don't think the collaborative atmosphere would have been the most comfortable for all team members involved. There are some people, like me, who don't mind interacting/working with creators from the taboo space; but there are also others who refuse to interact with that community in any capacity (and have a right to curate their online experience in that way).

I understand that some people are (rightfully) upset with the decision I've made, but my reasoning is more about the comfort of our future team members and avoiding hostility/conflict within the team.

Personally, I don't care what others create; ship what you want to ship. I've met some incredibly kind and talented people in that community.

I hope my answer helps others understand my decision. Again, I send no ill will to anyone, and I hope we can create a game that everyone will enjoy!

Are we all gonna be ignoring the RickMorty elephant in the room? The biggest ship in the fandom?

This is really disheartening to see. So many people in the Rick And Morty fandom have worked on dark projects. It's a popular niche in the community.

The fact that the "comfort" of those who judge others' fictional tastes is being put on a pedestal while those who have storied histories of working on various projects are being sidelined for wrongthink and having written/drawn things that are just a little too edgy is sad.

This is definitely something I can see that could be a larger issue in the project down the road, curbing creativity to coddle those who may be on the team who simply can't coexist with others who maybe have written or drawn a taboo ship in the past. That's not the kind of atmosphere I'd ever want to encourage on my dev team.

To avoid hostility, I would avoid bringing someone onto the team who is hostile (such as someone who judges those over their ficfional tastes) rather than someone who happens to have unconventional ship tastes.

I never saw this fandom as a place with such a massive divide. I never thought the antis were that omnipresent. While a small part of me sympathizes with OP's position (which still is surprising considering I thought there weren't many fandom puritans in R&M), I can't in good faith promote or interact with this project.

Saying taboo shippers can interact, but can't apply to be on the team simply because they may have worked on a dead dove project 2 years ago seems like lip service.
