you know what, im pissed off so im just going to say this now actually so it’s out my head and i can enjoy ASW. you are free to block me idc and wont take it personally. my issue is 100% not with paige obviously. this isn’t a paige azzi discourse for me and more so a look on this being a business and my issues with the organization. but ig im just irritated that what she said is true. all the other #1 picks and most of the other rookies where put in more optimal positions for their individual success and long term success. yes, mentally it’s better to be on a winning team but only if you’re contributing to wins to your greatest potential. it’s the same with people who disregard bench rings. it’s because a player didn’t really have an impact in the winning so things are kind of just given. that being said, i wish azzi was able to contribute to winning more and in the ways we were promised from jose and the organization. she is a 1a/1b two way player with amazing off ball movement, shooting, and defense and should be getting developed right now to be filling that role. paige was able to develop rapidly because of her exposure to being the focal point and she benefited from that even with the losses. azzi fans are frustrated because we all know azzi can be doing so much more right now, but like paige said they needed her to fill a role (which she is doing phenomenally btw). and you all berate the girl for going #1 and putting up the numbers she has because believe it or not yall had the exact same expectations that we had for her going into the season. the only difference is we know it’s not a lack of skill but a lack of opportunity. and im tired of the “stop getting mad she said she’s a role player” because i vividly remember last season when arike said she was excited for paige to get her more passes and open looks for her to shoot more everyone was up in arms. and rightfully so bc paige deserved to be taking the shots and leading the team based on her skills. well azzi fans feel the same abt azzi.
if you feel like azzi is a role player or that this is an optimal role for her to be in right now then that’s fine. but for me it seems like the organization is all dragging their feet at the expense of azzi’s development and just overall wellbeing (the backlash she has received since april has been insane whether she reads it or not). like why wait? she could be averaging 20+ in wins instead of 10+ in close losses that’s all im saying. and im sorry if you feel like fans should just be ok with her utilization being fucked but what can you do. ig it’s f us because we wanted her to go #1 as she deserved and actually benefit from being picked for that team and pushed toward her next level. but like i said the franchise was going to do what it wanted to make more money and they don’t really care abt individuals as much as we think. ig you can’t have your cake and eat it too with yall 🤷♀️. this argument is more about what you value most: team success or individual success/development
