To Whom it May Concern at @staff–

I have been a Tumblr user for about 6-7 years. I have used Tumblr casually, as a crafter/tutorial maker, as an artist, and as a sex worker.

Yes, that’s right, I’m a sex worker. I make porn. I conceive, shoot, edit, post, and market my own videos, and I use I site called Manyvids. After much research upon entering this field I decided that Manyvids was the best option for me, and I have no complaints so far. They are not a spam site, they do not give people computer viruses, they do not steal anybody’s information, they don’t have pop-ups, they help me by sending DMCAs when other sites post my videos illegally, etc. 

Today I found out that you, Tumblr @staff, are blocking links to Manyvids. Upon discovering this, I was immediately anxious. As an independent porn performer/producer I depend heavily on the money I make from the videos I work hard to post and promote, and I promote them through Tumblr. I in no way trick anybody into buying my videos, and this is the case for literally every Tumblr user I’ve ever seen providing links to their Manyvids pages. 

You are blocking the links to the source material. Do you understand that? Original content theft is a RAMPANT problem on Tumblr (perhaps you could try focusing more energy on that?), and by blocking Manyvids, you are making it almost impossible for us to post our content to Tumblr in a way that actually gives us source credit. 

I have a feeling you’re going to pass this off as a measure against people using Tumblr for advertising. If that’s the case, are you going to block StoreEnvy links? Are you going to block Society6 links or Etsy links? Are you going to prevent all creators and artist from providing ways to purchase their work through Tumblr? I’m going to hazard a guess here: no. No, you won’t. Because, let’s face it, this isn’t about decreasing ads and spam, this is about discriminating against sex workers, who, I should point out, have provided your site and app with a great deal of traffic and can, in turn, take that traffic away. 

I want to love Tumblr, I do. It’s been a part of my life for a long time, and it used to have a certain openness and progressiveness that many other forms of social media do not. Ever since Yahoo bought Tumblr, I’ve noticed that openness and progressiveness gradually being taken away. Please, Tumblr @staff, prove me wrong.
