Fate Fanservant: Columbia, America Made Manifest(Grand Saber)
First Stage: Lady Columbia is clad in a pure white toga with golden trim. Draped over her shoulders is a cloak bearing the image of the American flag. In one hand, she holds a gleaming blade, and in the other she wields a peerless shield. Her hair is loose, going all the way down to her back. A pair of elbow-length opera gloves cover her hands from view.
Second Stage: Lady Columbia’s white robes have been replaced with a flashy superhero costume, consisting of a leotard, skirt, gloves, and stockings, colored red, white, and blue. A pair of white star-shaped sunglasses are perched on her face, and golden knuckledusters and greaves emblazoned with star symbols gleam on her arms and legs. The cloak she wore in her last ascension has been repurposed as a superhero’s cape that flows in the wind majestically.
Final Stage: Columbia’s gloves have been removed, revealing bloodstained hands, one gripping tightly onto a torn and tattered flagpole, the other holding a rusted, broken cavalry saber. She’s clad in an old and worn Union soldier’s uniform. Her wide smile has faded entirely, instead replaced with a somber stare.

Despite being a Saber-class Servant and a quasi-deity, Columbia’s Magic Resistance is actually quite low in comparison to her peers. Because Lady Columbia represents the modern America, she has little to no actual experience with magic firsthand, instead relying on her physical combat ability.

Divine Core of the Goddess C:
While she technically qualifies as a Mother Goddess and was inspired heavily by gods such as Athena and Apollo, Lady Columbia’s divinity is rather low. Indeed, she doesn’t truly count as a ‘true’ divinity of America due to her creation as a symbol rather than a true object of worship. While she is technically a goddess due to the imagery she holds, she was never worshipped and only served as an emblem.
It is through this small technicality that despite being a Divine Spirit of sorts, Lady Columbia is capable of being summoned within as a Grand Servant, similar to Romulus=Quirinus. However, as a living symbol of a nation and a personification of Liberty, she still has some form of Authority.
A figurehead made as a symbol of a blossoming nation, an embodiment of what Americans dreamed, and a manifestation of their desires. This is Lady Columbia, the goddess of America.

As a pseudo-goddess and a Grand Servant, Columbia has the ability to act completely without a Master commanding her what to do. While her mana reserves are fairly low, because of her low magical ability, she is able to conserve it indefinitely so long as she doesn’t expend it in a pitched battle.

Upon the victory of the American colonies, the United States had proved to the world that even a world superpower such as Britain could be defeated, sending ripples that would affect the world to come. Many other nations would follow in America’s example in declaring independence, including France, Haiti, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru.
Upon the defeat of one of the greatest empires in human history, and the birth of a new nation, one thing would be made clear.
The world would be watching the United States.

On her body, she bears the scars of the people who dwell within her. Each lash of the whip, each gunshot wound, each hanging, all of them mar her body, a constant reminder of the sins done in her name.

Her appearance may change, but the effect will be the same: Columbia will lead the charge into war, and her troops will defeat all who seek to destroy what she stands for.

Among the roles that Columbia served in propaganda pieces was as a guide and speaker for many of the underclass in American society. Immigrants, freed slaves, injured veterans, women, and children all fell under the protection of the goddess of America.
For as often as Columbia was used as a symbol of oppression and colonization, she also never forgot what values her nation was found on: freedom and liberty for all.

Columbia’s Arm Prevails B:
As a pseudo-goddess, Columbia’s power naturally increases in correspondence to how many of her ‘children’ believe in her. The battles she wages are largely based on faith. Faith that she can save the day. Faith that she is fighting for righteousness and goodness. Faith that she can hold onto the values she claims to hold.
Similar to the Fame Bonus many Servants have in their homelands, Columbia can enhance her abilities by creating her own territories and having her allies cheer her on. The more people believe in her, the stronger she comes, until all will rally behind her flag.

Noble Phantasm: The World Turned Upside Down - A New Era Begins

America’s story of independence is the quintessential underdog story. A small collection of colonies, barely able to tolerate each other, let alone work together as a true nation, facing off against one of the world’s strongest superpowers. By all accounts, they should have been absolutely decimated, their leaders dead and hanging on some far-off British hill, and any hope of rebellion completely and utterly crushed by their motherland. And yet, against all odds, against all reason, the Colonies succeeded in their revolution, earning their independence by forcing Britain to surrender. According to both the British soldiers and the American revolutionaries, it was as if the world had turned upside down.
This tale of victory makes itself manifest as Lady Columbia's first Noble Phantasm: The World Turned Upside Down - A New Era Begins. Through this Noble Phantasm, the Grand Saber can 'invert fate', as it were, making that which is seen as impossible into an absolute truth. Even if a battle cannot be won, she will create an outcome for victory. Even if all paths ahead lead to death, she will carve a new road towards salvation. This Noble Phantasm's power grows the more hopeless a situation is. If against an opponent of equal or lesser power, then it will not activate at all. However, against a being more powerful than she is, her Noble Phantasm will work to find a means of triumph, carving forth a path towards an absolute victory, just as the young men of the colonies did all those years ago.
In essence, Lady Columbia holds the ability to rewrite her own fate and defy all expectations given to her.

In the nineteenth century, many Americans began to believe in the idea that their colonization of the United States was not just their right, but in fact their duty ordained by Heaven itself in order to 'civilize' the rest of the continent. It didn't matter what brutalities Americans committed. What slavery, what genocide, what cruelty upon cruelties were committed. In the name of American expansionism and an assumed belief in the country's inherent morality and uniqueness, Americans moved further and further west, conquering and colonizing all in the name of their greatness, with Lady Columbia, the embodiment of America itself, serving as the embodiment of this ideal as she led the charge across the nation.
Symbolizing America's expansion to the west, Manifest Destiny - Go West, Young Man is a Noble Phantasm that utilizes Columbia's Authority as America's Goddess. Through this Noble Phantasm, those she targets with this skill, whether they be land, people, or even concepts, are destroyed in complete and utter totality, before being recreated in an instant as ‘American’. Much like Romulus=Quirinus's Per Aspera Ad Astra, this Noble Phantasm is the embodiment of a nation's ability to conquer and reshape the world into its own image. Other civilizations, other nations, it matters not: the whole world belongs to America.
More than any other aspect of herself, this is what Lady Columbia despises the most, for this Noble Phantasm is the embodiment of who she truly is.

The only weapon that Columbia brings into battle with her is a rusted sword, one that has seen countless battles at her side. A cavalry saber used in the days of the Revolution, left on a forgotten battlefield to decay. Despite the fact that it is chipped and nearly broken, this sword’s edge never fails to cut whatever it strikes.
It is a blade that severs all chains, breaks all contracts, shatters all boundaries both real and imagined, and overthrows all tyrants. It is the sword of revolution, a blade that can never be stopped or halted by any barrier, physical, magical, or otherwise. While the blade is nameless, its power is peerless. It is this weapon that truly gives Columbia the title of ‘Grand Saber’.
However, in truth, the Noble Phantasm is not the saber itself. The blade is merely a conduit for Columbia’s abilities, one out of millions, easily replaceable and replicated with any other blade picked up from the countless battlefields Columbia has found herself upon. Instead, the true power of this Noble Phantasm stems from the universal wishes of the American people, past, present, and future. The immortal words that the nation was founded on.

I hate to say it but… She really is someone after my own heart in the end. Maybe this is who I’m meant to be after all. Then again… if she can try to redeem herself, then maybe I have a chance too.

Dialogue 24 (If you have any other ‘Grand’ Servants): The Grand Servants… Hah. To think I apparently deserve to stand alongside these champions of humanity. What a joke. No matter how you slice it, they’re all great heroes, while I… I’m nothing in comparison.
Dialogue 25 (If you have Tiamat): You… you and I are the same, aren’t we, Mother Goddess? Our kids have long since left us behind, but we still love them all the same. It hurts, doesn’t it? Seeing them go so far into the stars, while we’re left back on Earth?

Likes: Something I like? Well… I’ve always enjoyed cooking. When new people arrive, they always bring with them their family recipes, their cultures, their reminders of the lives they had to leave behind. I like to think that’s a reminder of how unique our experiences can be.

Lady Columbia, the first known personification of the United States, before the emergence of figures such as the Statue of Liberty and Uncle Sam. Her name, Columbia, stems from the man claimed to have first discovered North America, Christopher Columbus.
She is a symbolic goddess designed to serve the same purpose as figures such as Britannia, Marianne, and Roma, embodying both the untamed New World that many Americans hoped to control, as well as the colonies' settlements born from the first footsteps on this new land.

The first concept of 'Columbia' originally appeared in a British publication known as The Gentleman's Magazine, as a name for the American colonies. She was the subject of political cartoons, poems, and sermons, hailed as a symbol of the nation. She was a vengeful revolutionary, a benevolent angel, and a symbol of America's ambitions and ideals.
She is not a 'true' goddess in comparison to figures such as Romulus=Quirinus, Quetzalcoatl, or Zeus. She was never worshipped, nor were there ever alters built to pray to her. Rather, she was only ever meant to exist as a drawing on paper, nothing more.
Perhaps as a result of these origins, Lady Columbia likes to style herself as a superhero straight off of the pages of a comic book. A dramatic cape billows in the winds behind her. A shining pair of sunglasses gleams upon her face. A pearly-white smile flashes to all who look upon her. In summation, her appearance says but one thing to all who look upon her:
Despite being given the designation of Grand Saber, Columbia seems to have a preference for unarmed combat, unleashing a flashy flurry of punches and kicks in battle. Even in this handicapped state, her punches are strong enough to shake nations, and her kicks are fast enough to make the very oceans tremble. When asked why she does this, she replied with a simple response:
"Punching is the way superheroes beat the bad guys, right? I'm a superhero, so I can't use a sword! Besides, look at that Demigod Santa! He's a boxer and yet everyone calls him a Saber!"
However, this proficiency in hand to hand does not mean she lacks skill in swordplay. Quite the opposite. It is when she picks up her sword that she becomes the most dangerous. Despite her weapon being a brittle blade coated in rust, all nations will turn their eyes upon her when she raises her blade up high, and they will see what her true potential really holds.
As a sharp contrast to her previous Ascensions, Columbia’s ‘true’ appearance is nowhere near as bombastic and flashy as her superhero persona would have you believe. She is calm, melancholy, choosing to quietly reflect rather than speak her mind. Her clothes are torn and raggedy, a humble officer’s uniform rather than a brilliant superhero’s outfit. Her body is marred with scars and stained with blood, as opposed to the shining squeaky-clean heroine. In her hands are a rusted blade and a tattered flag.
This is Columbia in her truest self. The forgotten soldier, the blood-stained tyrant, the foolish youth.
This is Columbia, America made manifest.
In her original concept, ‘Columbina’ was designed to represent the New World, dressed as the natives of the land, and associated with the wilds of the Americas and its animals. As time passed and the colonies grew larger, so too did Columbia change. Her design changed to fit the Roman imagery of the past, transforming her into a goddess out of ancient history.
Over time, her appearance would continue to change to suit the messages the powers that be wished to send. She served the role as motherly guide to immigrants, an advancing colonizer upon the ‘untamed’ West, a socialite flaunting the power of America to other nations, a soldier encouraging her people to fight in war. It mattered not what role she played, for Lady Columbia would hang over the American people and their ambitions no matter what.
In the modern day, the symbol known as Lady Columbia has been mostly forgotten, having been replaced with the now-iconic images of Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty. While several cities, rivers, and monuments are named after her to this day, the image of Columbia has been largely retired in modern times.
In this time, Columbia has been left with nothing to do but reflect. Reflect on the standards for which she stood for. Reflect on the sins that were committed in her name. Reflect on how despite being a symbol of freedom, her image was invoked for tyranny.
For years, Columbia's image was flown, a symbol of an underdog and a tyrant, a symbol of a burgeoning nation and a ruthless colonizer, a symbol of freedom and oppression. Even now, she struggles to reconcile the difference between who she is and who she wants to be. Perhaps she will never find the answer to the questions she seeks.
Perhaps she is too afraid to learn them.

Oftentimes, Lady Columbia can be seen alone, writing poems, letters, and short stories in her free time. Despite her bombastic outward appearance, she has a surprising talent for the art of writing. She often sends letters to her children, praising them for their talents, encouraging them whenever they meet a failure, or simply asking them how their day has been going. She never signs her letters, nor does she give them personally, yet they know who it is all the same.
When asked why she does this, Columbia responded thusly:
"I was built on the written word. The colonies may have been built on conquest and cruelty, but I was born from the sermons written by the men who lived there, and the poetry of the oppressed and downtrodden. More than anything, I was born from a writer's dreams and their ideals. I don't deserve my children. Any of them. They're all so much greater than me. But with these letters, maybe I can give them something I couldn't before."
