inspired by a fibromyalgia/arthritis flare up lol

i never used a real mouse trap before. i remember my parents using glue traps for roaches n things, it would always be really sad to see a mouse stuck in one. i tried to release a baby mouse outside when i was young, but it just ended up digging in our potted plants lol

i have a few bugs— a scorpion in a wet specimen jar, a pinned death’s head hawkmoth, a loose cicada waiting to be displayed, i think a dry scorpion also lol.

what kind of fish do you think i referenced?

ive been inspired as of late.

i previously was working full-time as a manager in retail, and while i enjoyed the money, it slowly drained me over time due to my illnesses. i have chronic pain, fibromyalgia, arthritis, and some other fun degenerative diseases that impact my ability to work back to back days for extended periods of time. i would come home after a shift and be in full-body pain— i wouldnt get up from the couch unless it meant i had to use the bathroom or finally go to bed. my mental health was spiraling downward, and while my coworkers were supportive and understanding, the upper management was less so.

finally, i decided to quit. i thought it was time to pivot: shrink back to part time, and make art in my free time. i have so much passion and love for art, and i want to succeed in something that makes me happy.

so my first official project has begun: coloring book. i thought i could make original artwork and then sell the coloring book, maybe make some side cash doing something i greatly enjoy. simple enough, right? … right?? 😅

anyways, a few names have been floating around for this project, but i think “coloring carnage” has stuck with me the most by far. an adult coloring book with morbid themes, depicting unfortunate critters in unfortunate situations, all in a big friendly coloring book style. simple, nostalgic, easy. innocent, but corrupted. a theme we know all too well.
