He had trained his whole life. Studied all the files. Did what he was made to do. AND STILL LOST. He nurses his head as he looks at the Lantern from the thick glass of a Watchtower holding cell. He wonders what crime put him on the wanted list.

❝ You don't seem like the gloating type. ❞ Jason warns lowly. He huddled in the corner of the cell still trying to figure his way out.

hal stood in front of the holding cell, tapping his foot as he folded his arms across his chest. ❛ and i thought i wouldn't find you in here [ ... ] guess we're both surprised, huh? ❜

despite the sternness in his voice, there was little malice laced in his words. he felt like the disappointed uncle in moments like this ⸻ and he knew it had to be at least somewhat humiliating for the other to be on the receiving end of the talk. but jason wasn't a kid anymore, he should know better than this. ❛ what the hell did you even do to get put up in here? ❜ he wasn't about to break him out of the cell without a good cause.

𝗢𝗞𝗔𝗬.  𝗦𝗢  𝗠𝗔𝗬𝗕𝗘  𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦  𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗  𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘  𝗚𝗢𝗡𝗘  𝗔  𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘  𝗕𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥.  that  was  the  lie  tim  kept  telling  himself  in  his  head  as  he  laid  on  the  ground  ,  something  in  his  leg  absolutely  broken  and  pain  coursing  through  the  now  useless  limb.  he  knew  it  was  a  matter  of  time  before  someone  came  to  collect  him  ,  already  trying  to  figure  out  which  excuse  would  work  best  on  whoever  was  being  sent  by  bruce.  (  and  if  it  was  bruce  himself  .  .  .   well  he  knows  how  to  lay  on  the  puppy  dog  eyes  like  the  best  of  them  ).  he  had  already  entirely  formulated  his  act  for  both  clark  and  diana  ,  so  imagine  his  utter  surprise  when  he  was  greeted  by  the  familiar  green  glow  of  @2814s'  ring  descending  upon  him  from  the  sky.

“  huh  .  .  .  not  who  i  was  expecting.  ”  the  admission  came  out  of  tim's  mouth  before  the  filter  that  he  does  possess  ,  thank  you  very  much  ,  kicked  in  to  stop  it.  (  he  was   going  to  blame  his  injury  for  turning  said  filter  off  ).  “  i  -  not  that  i'm  complaining  or  anything.  very  happy  for  the  assist  ,  hal.  just  ,  i  don't  know  ,  half  expected  b  to  send  someone  else.  ”

the green lantern landed on the ground, the glow surrounding his figure dissipating as he noticed tim laying there, injured to all hell. hal wasn't normally the prime candidate for playing the medic role [ ... ] but the nice thing was that he could at least help out temporarily, form up a couple constructs while they waited for help to arrive. he noticed the look of surprise on the other's face, and he couldn't help but chuckle.

 the assertion that he was somehow trouble - in his flight jacket and dog tags - made john all but roar with laughter, his head thrown back.

" sorry, it's just- trouble! you! " one hand tried to carefully avoid smudging his eyeliner while dabbing away any tears while his other, still in the stranger's back pocket, gave his ass a good, firm squeeze. like john was patting a good friend on the shoulder to commend him for saying something so hilarious. when they next locked eyes, john did it with the predatory stare and wide grin of a starving jungle cat circling its next meal. " don't you worry about me, pretty boy. there's nothing you can give me that i can't 'andle. "

john watched his facial expression shift as he sampled the drink and decided what to make of it. too sweet, probably, but that was always the gamble with cocktails. nevertheless, it still paid off in the end -- and john's lips curled upward in perfect mirror synchronicity.

" that he does. and your tongue's got a lot of talent, y'know that? " double ententre fully, obviously intended, especially with how john purrs those words. his attention was only briefly diverted away to order himself a drink of his own ( a necromancer, because he was enjoying keeping things on-theme ) and even then, said attention wasn't ever fully off the brunet -- after all, his hand remained stubbornly in that back pocket.

for a split second, the young pilot almost wanted to be offended at the other's mockery [ ... ] but at the moment, his concentration was focused elsewhere, like the hand of the laughing blond shoved in the back pocket of his pants, giving his ass a firm squeeze. he couldn't decide if he was surprised or not by the bold move, but given how forward the punk already had been, this wasn't exactly a shocker.

but the not-so-delicate grab, and the predatory glint in his eyes to match was enough to keep him in check. ❛ something tells me that's a challenge. ❜ and everyone that knew hal ' highball ' jordan knew that he was always up for a challenge. he felt the other's eyes all but boring holes into him as he sipped his drink once more, and realized just how much he liked it. with all three complimentary types of rum, the citrus to contrast, and the dash of absinthe for a real punch of anise [ ... ] it was both smooth and intense all at the same time.

❛ oh, i've been made well aware. ❜ he bit back a devilish grin, the purr of the other still ringing in his ears, sending shivers down his spine. for all it mattered to him here, the bar was empty outside of the two of them. the crowd of drunken slurs and the old, ratty jukebox on its last breath had merely become the backdrop to this show between the punk & the pilot. sure, he was bluffing at least somewhat, for he hadn't had any prior experience with men ⸻ but he had a good number of flings with women under his belt, and they had little to discredit him for. he was thankful he'd been able to remain stoic for the most part, but the flush that topped his ears and painted his cheeks was unmistakable at the comment the blond made.

he just watches him : the grin , the easy flick of a construct back into nothing , like the skyscraper he’d almost gone sailing into a second ago was just part of the field ... like a fight that could’ve levelled a city block was something to keep score on .

“ yeah . good hit . “ the words come out flat , stripped of anything resembling agreement . behind the domino mask , his eyes flare brighter than usual , a low molten red he normally keeps banked down out of habit , not choice⸻ right now , it’s not fully cooperating .

“ you think this is a game , green . ❜ it isn’t a question . “ swinging for the fences without a damn . “

he could sense the tension in the other's voice, the contempt in his tone as he replied so flat. yeah, he was not amused by the bat. he opted to file that in the back of his mind for later, that darius was not the kind to crack quips around. which, wasn't the end of the world [ ... ] he could put on a serious display when he needed to. but where was the fun? of course, he could hear batman's voice lingering in the back of his head, toting about how this job wasn't meant to be fun, and these sorts of things were meant to be taken seriously.

but when you'd been doing this song and dance as long as hal had, you almost had to instill some sort of humor in it, despite it being at his own expense sometimes.

❛ i know, i know [ ... ] it's not a game, i'll take it more seriously, the fate of the world is in our hands. this isn't my first rodeo, red. ❜ hal looked over to the other. ❛ believe it or not, the other lanterns don't have anything negative to say about my performance. ❜ he snorted. it was at least somewhat surreal hearing a lecture from someone who hadn't been in the game as long as he had, but he was still willing to hear him out, if not for anything else than his respect for the other as an ally.
