wonho’s sure there’s a hot and cold button on the other because one moment it’s all i hate your fucking guts and wonho laughs with bitterness seaping down his throat because he knows, he knows he knows; he hates himself sometimes too. but then there’s the are you okay’s and wonho can feel his heart beating in acceleration, his palms growing sweaty and a do you even care rise on his lips because he can’t tell when jung hoseok is genuine or simply asking because the situation asks him to.

he hates jung hoseok.

“because im tired,” wonho admits, a tired look overtaking his face because goddamn high school is only supposed to be a four year commitment, full of drama and love and broken friendships, all bearable with the ongoing logic that it’s four years of suffering. four years of baseless struggles to be number one, empty threats and snarky advances to the throne known as prom king. yet, here he is, years after high school and still his legacy follows him; shin hoseok, cheater.

it’s a fucking joke, is what it is.

“i don’t care, jung,” he laughs, slightly hysterical as he run a hand through his hair hair. he should wash it soon. if he remembers, he doesn’t remember a lot of things lately such as right now, in this moment, he doesn’t understand when everything came down to hate hate hate jung hoseok. when did it all change? 

“i’m tired. i wish i cared about gossip girl and her wrath,” he rolls his eyes a little here, “but quite frankly, the fight’s been drained out of me. i’m tired.” he’s silent for a few minutes, watching the pool’s water reflect stars in its abyss. tempting. he finally looks back up at hoseok, a pained expression on his face.

something bad is going to happen soon. 

and yet, he’s wonho. and it’s because he’s wonho that he ignores the signs od distress going on in the inside of his mind, the internal moans of anguish that whisper wonho, you’re ruining your life every so often and if only he would listen -- if only he would pay attention to them and do something to make it right, maybe he could fix it. stop this endless cycle of pain and betrayal. 

if only. instead it’s because he’s wonho that he instead turns his head to the front of their path and ignores his inner monologue, letting out a quiet hum at her words, to let her know he’s listening, he’s here.

he’s always listening. 

he lets out another sigh once they’re seated, scooting his chair in closer to the table so he can take a glance at the menu. once he sees a silhouette drag itself over him, he glances over at his girlfriend before letting out a “chocolate milk,” he says to the waiter. “lots of chocolate milk.”
