The Club

Music pulsed through Mo Guan Shan’s body, the bass setting up residence in his bones and demanding his pulse pick up speed, that his body give up control to the hot rips from the guitar and let his feet move to the beat of the drum.

“This place is hot, right?” Jian Yi yells in his ear.

Mo Guan Shan flashes him an irritated look and scowls. “Too loud. What are we doing here?”

“Scoping out the competition!” The other man points enthusiastically to the stage, where the lead guitarist dives into a solo, his hand rocking against the fingerboard while his pick blurs on the strings.

The Monday following the club incident, as Mo Guan Shan now referred to it in his head to allow some distance between himself and what happened, looked like any other morning. 

He took comfort in the fact that, while his world had changed irrevocably, the rest of the world continued on the same. There was the same man at the store with his fruits already on display, the same woman arguing the price of potatoes, the same kids running up and down the sidewalk, weaving between the pedestrians’ legs. It let him wrap yet another layer of protection around himself, made the club feel that much more like a dream instead of reality.

Because it had to be a dream. There was no way he kissed He Tian and no way that He Tian kissed him back with a burning desperation that made everything around them just vanish. That kind of thing didn’t happen in real life. Hearts didn’t pound so hard they felt like they’d burst, and the feel of He Tian’s hard body against his absolutely didn’t feel perfect.
