 bracelet of strung jet 

 knee-length fringed skirt 

 exposed bare knees

rolled hose with fancy garter 

flat-heeled, little girl sandals 

The Harlem Renaissance was the world's largest black urban community, and celebrated African American culture. It started from the great migration when hundreds of thousands of African Americans had moved north, the northerners were not very happy with their presence so then formed the NAACP which was protection for African Americans and gave them the voice in society that they needed. Zora Neale Hurston was an author and civil rights activist, who made her way from nothing to the top of the literary society.  

The new technologies and inventions of the 20's are what emerged businesses into modern practices, and shaped some of the businesses we have today. The post war recession was easily forgotten as everyone went on their shopping sprees once credit was formed. Credit enabled people to purchase items and pay the item back in time, although credit is a generally good idea, a lot of people at the time did not know how to budge their actually money which lead them into debt. Other new inventions was the assembly line which made the production of products much more efficient and a lot faster. The automobile was one of the most influential on how the businesses changed into modern practices, the automobile enabled people to travel much further and transfer their goods. One of the least expensive cars was the Model T Ford, which was a long standing car that was produced for about 18 years.

The roles of the women drastically changed in society during this time of the 20's. World War 1 opened up a whole new field of opportunites for every American citizen. Women could work in offices, factories, stores, they we're not just your typical house wife anymore. A new era that arouse for women was being a ¨Flapper¨ which is stereotyped a lot but is generally known and are associated with Jazz and 1920's famous dances. It was a new, stylish was of dressing for young women, it was just like any other modern trend that we have today! But overall, the opportunites opened up trumendously for the women in the roaring 20's. 

From 1920 - 1929 a lot of things have changed. The population had grew from thousands to millions. New, better and bigger opportunites opened in cities so a lot of migration happened during this time as well. As cities were growing and more people came, alcohol became a very big issue which became banned because the rates of abuse and crime shot up. Even with the prohibition happening their was still bootleg liquor being sold left and right. Which is how mobs and gangs started to make their money. 

The roaring 1920s gained the name by the enhancment of new technology and culture. The radio enhanced our culture in many ways, it improved our knowledge of things going on in the world like the news or even a baseball game that you just couldn’t miss out on. Two art movements, Surrealism and Art Deco had their rise during the 20’s. Photography was a popular way of an art form but a lot of advertising relied on artists and illustrators to produce high quality advertising to be either in black and white or in color. Also, there was a lot of different slang used in the roaring 1920’s, some of which we do use today. For example, baby means sweetheart which is what you call your boyfriend or girlfriend, dough means money and spify, when you’re lookin nice. The slang, art, and culture, influenced how we are today.

Keen - Attractive or appealing  

Moll - A gangster's girl    

Spiffy - An elegant appearance

Struggle Buggy - the backseat of a car. A parent's worst nightmare  

Take for a Ride -To drive off with someone in order to bump them off

Upchuck - To vomit when one has drunk too much
