Earth Day is coming up on Wednesday April 22, 2015, and we at Gables Residential want to celebrate living a green lifestyle! We are committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and real estate developer. We are mindful of our impact on the local environment and have adopted a green initiatives program to help do our part. Now it's your turn! Show us how YOU live a green lifestyle! Upload a photo to Instagram showing how you “go green” in everyday life (such as biking to work, recycling, etc. Be creative!). You will be entered to win a $500 gift card!

Festive & Fun Fall Events in the DMV

Fall is finally here at Gables 12 Twenty One! That's right, the leaves are changing colors, the air feels crisp, and your Facebook News Feed is all about football these days. There are tons of ways to enjoy this beautiful season in the DMV this year, both inside and outdoors! Check out the list below and don't forget to mark your calendar!

1) Cox Farm Fall Festival. Now through November 2. Bring the kiddos and enjoy hay rides, animals on the farm, slides, pumpkin picking, and fresh apple cider in a beautiful farm setting.

2) Taste of DC. October 11 - 12. Pennsylvania Ave. 9th - 14th Streets NW from 12 - 7 PM Daily. Sample lots of food and drinks from popular area restaurants! What's not to love?

3) Marine Corps Marathon. October 26. Calling all avid runners! This annual 26.2 mile race will test the endurance of thousands of area runners!

4) DC Drag Queen Race. October 28. Enjoy watching a competitive race (in heels!) and check out some great costumes and festivities in Dupont Circle.

5) Washington Wizards First Regular Season Home Game Opener. November 1 at 7 PM (Verizon Center) vs. the Milwaukee Bucks.

6) DC Beerathon. Saturday, November 8. 26 venues in NW DC will be participating! Whether your preference is an IPA or a lighter pilsner, this event is sure to please any beer lover.

7) Old Ebbit Oyster Riot. Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22. The Riot is one of DC's premiere food & wine events. Each night, nearly 1000 people devour tens of thousands of freshly shucked oysters from different regions while enjoying wine and live music.

8) Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot for Hunger. Thursday, November 27 at Freedom Plaza in NW DC. 8:30am Kids' One Mile Fun Run; 9:00am 5K Run/Walk.

New Dog Run at Gables 12 Twenty One!

Our brand new dog run is officially open! Please join us for our grand opening event with Olde Towne Pet Resort on August 16th! We hope our furry residents and owners enjoy this great new amenity.

Gables 12 Twenty One Associates Participate in Gables Day 2014!

Each year on Gables Day, every associate company-wide puts aside their normal daily work activities to volunteer in their region. Since 2000, Gables associates and vendors have contributed over 100,000 volunteer hours and $1,000,000 in goods and services. In 2007, Gables Day was dedicated to assisting several hurricane impacted neighborhoods in New Orleans. Gables was awarded the “2007 Community Service Project of the Year” by Multifamily Executive Magazine for the volunteer efforts in New Orleans contributed by Gables associates. This past May, we helped out the local Rockville Volunteer Fire Department and renovated one of their fire stations. We did landscaping, cleaning, and painting. We also renovated their kitchen, installed new granite counter tops, and donated new appliances to the hard working crew to enjoy for many years to come!

Mason Inn Mason Inn currently holds the title for the “#1 Zagat-Rated Sports Bar in Washington, DC”. Located in the heart of Glover Park, just 1 mile away from The Berkshire, Mason Inn is known for its happy hours, football games, alumni events and live music shows. The Glover Park bar is home to Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and Mississippi alumni groups to name a few. Ragtime offers jazz brunch on Sundays but is also a great spot to view a football game. Simply put, it is a warm and comfortable neighborhood favorite. It features a unique covered patio, 17 HDTVs, and live music. Ragtime also cooks up some delicious food without the extra grease. WVU alumni frequent this bar to view all of the Mountaineers games. What I Love About Gables 12 Twenty One

The following was submitted by a Gables 12 Twenty One resident. As a young professional in the D.C. Metro area, amenities are everything. When searching for apartments in the Arlington area, we were looking for great community spaces, namely an outdoor patio and grill area. As a landscape designer, I fell in love with the natural stone patio, water features, fire pit and grill area and could see myself spending a lot of time using those fantastic amenities that many apartment complexes in the area lack. The area is secluded with dense plantings around the perimeter which make it more of a private space which we enjoy after a hectic day of work. We use the patio and grill area at least three times per week! Another one of the many reasons I have loved living at Gables 12 Twenty One is because of the friendly and hard-working maintenance staff. When the compressor for our air conditioner broke, Frank ensured that the repairs were made on time and that the system was properly repaired. He even made a special trip out to find and get the compressor parts that were necessary to fix the job. When something is not right in the place that you relax, work, eat and sleep, you expect the repairs to be done ASAP, and that is how maintenance at Gables 12 Twenty One operates on a daily basis. Why I Love Living at Gables 12 Twenty One

The following was submitted by a Gables 12 Twenty One resident. The location of our new apartment couldn't be better. We are less than a 10 minute walk to a great selection of bars and restaurants and less than 3 miles away from all the amazing monuments and museums on the National Mall. Getting to work in Clarendon each morning is also made easy by our proximity to ART bus stops and the metro. The complimentary coffee offered in the club room makes my morning commute even better. My favorite feature at Gables is the outdoor patio and grilling area. The grill is large enough for multiple people to use at once and the fire pit is a nice place to relax in the evenings. The outdoor area is beautifully maintained and an awesome amenity that is a rare find at most other apartment complexes in the area.

Why I Love Gables 12 Twenty One

The following was submitted by a Gables 12 Twenty One resident. The primary reason I love living at Gables 12 Tewnty One is the location. Within a mile I am able to reach two metro stations as well as Washington DC. The landscaping at Gables is pristine and adds to the beautiful small town feel. The attentiveness of the Gables staff has made the transition of moving to an apartment building incredibly easy. I had never experienced an easier move in day than I have when I moved into Gables 12 Tewnty One and I owe that all to the staff. Besides the location, the amenities are unbelievable. From the gym that is never too crowded to the fire pit there is an amenity to please everyone. The gym is regularly stocked with towels and cleaned in order to ensure all residents can have a convenient workout. Additionally, the grill provides a great change of pace to cooking in your apartment every night. Overall, Gables12 Twenty One does everything they can to ensure the happiness of the residents and it is very evident. Alex

Why I Love Gables 12 Twenty One

I have lived here at the Gables 12 Twenty One in Arlington, VA for 3 years now and have been very satisfied with the apartment size, good rental rate, location, and the helpful leasing staff and maintenance crew. I feel like they go above and beyond to keep everyone happy. Exceptionally well maintained property. Superb staff, and prompt resident services. On site maintenance and leasing staff, who care and know their residents. Reasonably priced for the large units available. Apartments are reconciled in a like new condition, and all service request are acknowledge and resolved in a expeditious fashion. The management takes care to make all afforded updates and repairs to the community, with concern for the additional cost it may imposes upon the residents. If you're looking for a reasonably priced unit , with ample access to shopping, services and Downtown, this is the best bang for the buck in the area. Thanks, Brian

How Pinterest Can Make Apartment Life Better

Pinterest is all the rage when it comes to home and apartment projects. We at Gables 12 Twenty One wanted to put a DIY Apartment Fun Pinboard together of a few of our favorite DIY apartment ideas.

If you are unfamiliar with Pinterest, it is a virtual pinboard, that allows you to take any image from the internet and place it on a categorized pinboard. You can take any image from any website and add it to your collection. Let’s say you search Google for “Decorating Ideas" and you come across a website that has an idea you like, instead of doing it the old school way and bookmarking it, you can download the Pinterest bookmarklet, and add that decorating idea to your “Decorating Ideas" Pinterest board, to come back and view later.

Pinterest is also a great way for brides to plan their weddings. You can search Pinterest for "Wedding ideas on a budget" and you’ll get tons of images that match your search. When you click on an image, it will show you a how-to or where you can purchase what you are looking at.

Why I Love Gables 12 Twenty One

Nine hundred ninety eight… Nine hundred ninety nine.. ONE THOUSAND…..at Gables 12 Twenty One Gym I can really tone my pythons. Unlike most Arlington apartment communities with broken Nordic tracks from the Carter administration, Gables 12 Twenty One has an updated gym with all the amenities including treadmills, ellipticals, and plenty of workout machines.

The gym is just one of the great community amenities at Gables 12 Twenty One. Gables also has a party room and outside common area, all within an easy taxi ride to Downtown DC. I have lived in Gables 12 Twenty One for the past 3 years, and I can say that this is far and away the best community in Arlington. Take a look for yourself and tell’m Anthony referred you!
