After a great day exploring off trail, we finally found the trail, but lost it many times. After wading through brush and manzanita, we approached the pass and found this huge interesting rock on the hillside. It was 10-12’ tall with a tiny base. Even though there were huge gusts of wind that required me to rig trekking poles to keep my tent poles from collapsing, and it snowed and rained overnight, I was warm and sleeping soundly when this picture was taken by @dreamer2000at. I just got back from a four-day backpacking trip with a great friend. We hiked a ~40-mile loop in the Domelands Wilderness, experiencing high winds, temps in the 20s, disappearing trails, and an overnight snowstorm. My daughter encountered a deer on the trail last summer, just below Outpost Camp. The deer was unfazed. Sophia was delighted. The deer followed the trail for a while, completely used to the stream of people visiting the tallest peak around. — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/mXea86y
