1001 Lonely Nights

We do our hardest to make people love us. 

To feed our insecurities, we discard our self-worth.

In the end, we still get discarded. 

Ordering a drink, then solemnly waiting 

For the bartender to pour it

I begin to wonder

What kind of life you live

What kind of conversations you have

Will you be as fragile as your expression

Or do you harbour strong passions

You get your drink and you walk away

Leaving me content with just imagining

Because these fantasies are better

Than finding out about your flaws

The tantrums you could throw

Or how you’ll chip away at my spirit

The ways you’ll destroy my worth

Will never be known

You disappear from my vision

The buying and selling of emotion.

And once again I’m fooled into thinking
