I've been around this community for quite some time, and a good amount of us tend to ship and love the idea of Rachel and Isaac being a couple. I mean, it's pretty hard not to, they care about each other, they have good chemistry, and they make a very solid team.

However, there's also those who tend to not like the ship at all, for the one purpose of, to put it simply, he's a 20 year old man and she's a 13 year old girl.

I'll admit, when you hear that at first, it does sound alarming as fuck, and frankly it would make an average person probably pick up the rape whistle or dial 911...

But I'm seeing the term, Pedophilia/Pedophile being thrown around, and it's not really a good use of the word at all. I feel like people don't even know what "Pedophile" even means, to be exact, in this situation.

I'mma defend why this ship isn't as bad as what people make it out to be, and why some of the claims are...a bit dumb.

Firstly, I'm going to state something many people might not know about but, you can even Google it, Japan's age of consent is 13 years old. (Crazy right?) The creator of "Angels of Death" Makoto Sanada, is obviously Japanese. Ya know maybe that's why he didn't see a problem with kinda implying the idea of a possible romance between a 20 and 13 yr old.

However I know that probably doesn't justify it enough for people like us who are used to 18 being the age of consent, but rules and laws are different everywhere, it's not like we can change them, but by all means if it really bothers you, go to Japan and try to change they're laws or something.

Next I wanna speak on the big word that people like to use on this topic, Pedophile. A Pedophile is someone who is sexually attracted to children. Last time I checked, Zack didn't do anything sexual to Rachel and I'd be willing to bet he wouldn't even think about it for fucking years to come.

Man's prolly thinking about what soda he's putting in his cereal. Come on now, the guy don't even like to be touched, you really think, he's just gonna randomly get horny and turn into a rapist??? We also have to acknowledge that he's not your average, normal 20 year old dude. He probably has the same mindset as a 10 year old....who's completely illiterate with alarming amounts of strength.

But yeah, just people blatantly throwing that word out there, and it doesn't even fit the situation. Their relationship was innocent and platonic, that's all I care about. I think you're allowed to look down upon a relationship with those given ages, that's completely within your right...

But if it's not sexual or there's no sexual assault happening, don't point the finger and say it's pedophilia. Yes, in the real world it still would be creepy and fucking weird to see a 13 year old close with a 20 year old but it's not the same situation...

Unless you know of someone who is an orphan, a bit insane, creepily sews shit up, and has a boyfriend who is illiterate, a wanted serial killer, who had gotten burns from practically an abusive childhood....then okay, maybe you know something but these aren't normal people.

Honestly, why? Is it the age gap between them? I’m no expert but 7 years isn’t that much. There are 70 yrs old white men getting married to 20 yrs old models in the real world, why not hate on those relationships?

If it’s because Rachel is 13 in the Manga, Anime, etc. then yeah, that’s a point. I still don’t see why there’s so much talk about that cause in like 99.9% of the ZackRay fanfictions I read Ray was always aged up to at least 16 yrs before they even so much as talked about ‘feelings’.

And the whole concept of this ‘pedophilia’ argument is kinda wierd to me. I mean the fact that Zack is an (young) adult by law and Rachel isn’t yet makes the possibility of a romantic relationship wrong and disgusting? If they waited until Ray is 18 to start a relationship, would that make it acceptable for you? Does that count for every couple with an age gap? Is every relationship pedophilia when one partner is older than 18 and the other is not?
