"Oh, how pleasant and uncommon it is to make someone's day"
- The World to Come (2021)
Indian WLW/NBLW movies/series
Let's start with the oldest wlw indian movie (i know of)
1. FIRE (Movie - 1996) : By Deepa Mehta; Sita and Radha are young Indian women whose husbands choose celibacy or mistresses over their wives. This leads them to form an intimate, passionate relationship amidst a close-minded society.

3. Ajeeb Daastaans (Short Film - 2021 - Netflix) : Geeli Puchi; The short film on Netflix anthology âAjeeb Dastaanâ talks about caste, sexuality, privilege and patriarchy in a powerful way.
4. Sheer Qorma (Short Film - 2021) : This film by a Non - Binary director, Faraz Arif Ansari and starring a Non-binary character as a lead, is a romantic drama that showcases how love is judged in society based on gender and how people have preconceived notions about sexuality. It has Swara playing the role of a Pakistani-Canadian citizen who travels to India with her lover (Divya Dutta). But Duttaâs mother, played by Shabana Azmi, finds it difficult to come to terms with her daughterâs choices.
5. Margarita with a straw (Film - JioCinema - 2014) : A rebellious young woman with cerebral palsy leaves India to study in New York. On her journey of self-discovery, she unexpectedly falls in love.
6. Ek Ladkhi Ko Dekha Tho Aisa Laga (Movie - Netflix- 2019) : Sweety hides a secret about her true love and decides to marry a writer to please her father, Balbir Chaudhary. However, chaos ensues when she decides to fight her family and society to win her love.
7. Firsts Season 3 (FilterCopy - YouTube- 2020) : Ritu and Lavanya are two women in their twenties who start living together after their second date, finding themselves in a series of firsts as they navigate life, love and more during the lockdown.
8. The Other Love Story (Web series - 12 episodes - YouTube - 2016) : The plot, set in the late 1990s/early 2000s, revolves around the relationship between two girls in an era when there were no cell phones or internet.
9. Mismatched (Netflix - Series - 2020) : Has a plotline with a wlw character. Set in a college/university summer coding program.
10. Feels like Ishq - She loves me She loves me not (Netflix - 1 episode - 2021) : A closeted advertising associate falls for an out-and-proud colleague, but her subtle efforts to confess her feelings don't go quite as planned.

itâs so funny to me that there are like SO many posts criticizing the make up industry and skin care (and rightfully so) but there is comparatively less talk about criticizing the shaving industry
and like how insidious it is to ask women to waste time, daily if youâre particularly hairy, with a fucking razor trying to look prepubescent. and like what an undue burden that is.
and thereâs like⌠next to no posts about beyond the vaguely (or less vaguely) implication of pedophilia around this, SO mcuh of this serves other forms of opprssion besides misogyny. how being perfectly hairless is part of the hyperfemininity expected of trans women, fat women, and women of color. and to fail to shave is to fail to pass and meet whites supremacist standards of ârealâ womahood (or girlhood, I guess, since weâre all about de-aging the body by doing this).
we donât talk about how shaving is an ableist expectation, not figuring into it how shaving can be difficult if not impossible to do with various disabilities. and how if youâre lacking spoons, shaving is a fucking terrible thing to spend them on. or how some people shouldnât have fucking razors in their house.
and how this obsesssion with body hair extends its tendrils out to demonize ANY hair on women so that intersex women or women with other conditions that lead to increased arm or facial hair are like⌠doubling âfailingâ being women.
so like⌠i love making silly lil posts about loving bushy genital hair or showing off leg hair.
but i also think the expectation of no body hair rly extends out beyond just like⌠a symbol of some abstract feminist struggle. itâs obviously not like an issue that is high priority but i do think it is a point of intersection in a lot of forms of gendered oppression.
or just struggles in general. likeâŚ
why should women spend time and money on this when itâs so much better spent on surviving
I will reblog this every time.
Literally this.
Getting dirty, asking questions, being unapologetically enthusiastic about things, going overboard on projects. These are a few of my favorite things.
This is so heartbreaking, but so true.Â
And itâs even more heartbreaking when you see the transition and how performative it is.
I was a camp counselor at a science/nature camp when I was 16, for a bunch of 10 and 11 yr old girls. And one day while we were waiting around for the naturalist to come get us to go on the dayâs hike, the boys cabin we were grouped with was exploring the area and overturned a log and found a salamander. One of the boys picked it up and they brought it over.
My girls all went âewww, gross, keep it away!â
âŚright up until I said âwhoa, cool, can I see it?â
This boy handed me the salamander and all of a sudden my girls were clustering around. They wanted to hold it. They were asking questions about it. They had stories of other times theyâd seen a lizard or caught a frog or something. A couple of them went with some of the boys to look under another log and see if they could find another one.
All they had needed was permission to be curious, to show interest instead of disgust. And as soon as someone they were looking to for cues on âhow to be a girlâ showed interest, as soon as they didnât feel like they had to perform socially-acceptable girliness and pretend to be grossed out in order to gain adult approval, all that natural curiosity and the fascination most kids have for the natural world just came bubbling right up.
As a female engineer, I have to reblog this.
Absolutely had to reblog this and add that in Indonesia
Girls were found to have a higher interest that boys in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; and
Girls outperform boys in STEM subjects and score higher on numeracy and literacy tests; but
Only 12% of graduates with STEM majors are women; and
Only 30% of the workforce in the STEM sector is female

South Korea's 66-year abortion ban must be lifted by end of 2020 the country's Constitutional Court ruled Thursday, in a major win for pro-choice advocates.
Iâm so happy for them đ Our lives, our choice!Â
I found sources.Â
The word âmanâ was gender neutral and referred to both sexes until the 13th century
The female specific pronoun âsheâ was invented in the 12th century.Â
The word âgirlâ was gender neutral and referred to children of both sexes until the 15th century
High heels were invented for men and were worn predominantly by men until the 16th century
From the mid 16th century to the 19th century boys would typically wear dresses until the age of 7
Until the early 1930s pink was considered the appropriate colour for baby boys and blue was the colour for baby girls
In 2017, a Christian couple pull their 6yo son out of a primary school because his classmate is transgender - citing their âtraditional beliefsâ  IMPORTANT NOTE: Last source is transphobic and from a pro-life website that attempts to defend the dumb ass couple. Feel free to ignore it if you prefer, but it was included for the sake of accuracy.Â
Reblogging because verifiable sources make every information 70% better. Thanks for the addition!
Proving that all terms, labels and words are nothing but concepts of which we create and they do not define who we are.

thereâs this moment of awareness for a girl when she realizes her legs (and/or arms, armpits, upper lipâŚ) are unacceptable.
sheâs just minding her own business, bopping along, when maybe a classmate starts mocking her for having visible body hair. or she goes to a sleepover and someone points out that her legs look different from all the other girlsâ. or she walks in on her mom shaving and asks why, and the answer is âbecause a womanâs body looks nicer this way.â or maybe her mother or sister actually approaches her and says, âlooks like itâs time you learned to shave that jungle.â
the point is, the day before that realization, however it happened, the girl didnât give a shit about her hair. she put on shorts and tank tops without a second thought. she didnât feel unclean. she didnât feel like a monster when she looked in the mirror (at least not because of body hair). her hair didnât stop her from riding a bike or climbing a tree.
only after someone draws her attention to it does she start feeling self-conscious and wanting to remove it. removal, in this culture, is never a choice made free of coercion. itâs never born of a girlâs own naturally occurring desires. the seed of shame was planted in her by someone else (family, friends, bullies, magazines, razor commercials) and chances are that seed will stay with her forever- a sinking realization that her body can be wrong, that she can look ugly or dirty even when clean, that a thing she never even noticed about herself before should be a source of retroactive humiliation.
that feeling is like a scar. every time we look at it, the humiliation and judgment we experienced as kids comes rushing back and the little nasty patriarchal voice in our heads (the same one that says shit like âjesus youâre getting fat,â âugh why did you think you could pull off this outfit,â âgod who would ever want to touch THOSE boobs,â etc) says âugh, looks like itâs time I shaved that jungle.â and itâs just parroting back what weâve already been told.
When people say âwe donât deserve themâ talking about their faves doing/saying kind things about them it kinda makes me sad cuz you get love and act like itâs a privilege. Itâs not, you deserve to be loved, every single day, always, on your bad days, on your good days, you deserve to feel like you matter. Remember that.
This is important. Just because you feed yourself and shower doesnât mean you arenât suffering. Youâre silently suffering alone and it eats you alive. Why would anyone want to wait until they get to the point where they canât function? Everyone who suffers in any way deserves help.
I love Jisung
