Up In The Woods
Dirk rather consistently drove for give or take 16 hours, with brief stops along the way for food and gas. How he was able to manage this was primarily related to his homemade cure-all pick-me-up: Two gallons of orange juice-flavored energy drink mixed with about five 5 Hour Energy shots. This was also what Dirk would drink when forced to work a series of consecutive projects that included him pulling all nighters and travelling so often.
The trip ended in the deep woods in he Cascade Range in Northern Oregon, with him parking the car in a location he knew to be relatively off the beaten path. Once sated with his parked location, he swung upon the door, got on the floor. Er, ground, more appropriately. Almost instinctively, he started setting up the tent, still wired from the drive.
"You okay there, babe?"
It was something of a shock to stand on solid ground after traveling for such a long period of time. Upon making contact with the leaves and twigs underfoot, Calliope wobbled, taking a few moments to steady herself as the circulation returned to her legs.
"I'm quite alright! May I be of help?" She piped up behind him, circling around to mirror his actions with the tent. "You must forgive me for dozing off. I wasn't aware that car rides could be so... taxing!"
Once the tent was pitched, she clasped her hands at her front, appearing to be thinking something over. Her gaze flicked from the ground to him and back again, a slow smile spreading over her face as the excitement of the situation sunk in.
"It means very much to me that you would do this, Dirk."

As always, Calliopeās enthusiasm was a refreshment in comparison to the likes of most anyone else he had to deal with. After making it over the stairs, he led her to her side of the car, walking quickly around to his. He buckled up and adjusted the mirrors, putting in his favorite mix of nightcore, anime openings, and Touhou tracks. This was a roadtrip, after all.
"Ready, babe? Itāll be a long drive."
"As ready as I'll ever be, love." She grinned at him affectionately, taking her seat at his side.
"You needn't worry about a repeat of our last ride, if that is what concerns you. I've improved greatly, I assure you-- this will be no deterrent to our fun!"
Nevertheless, the cherub steeled herself, shivers creeping down her spine as the engine purred to life. This was fine. Just some nerves that would soon dissipate the longer this went on. She exhaled slowly, gently reminding herself that this was Dirk, and that she had utmost faith in him not to do anything to hurt her.
"Go ahead," she chirped, and began her endless cycle of napping, light banter, and gluing herself to the window as the scenery moved rapidly by. This was going to be an incredibly long ride, granted, but Calliope considered any time with Dirk as time well spent.
